  • Simulating the sloshing of oil in the oil tank of our Formula SAE Vehicle, PBR17. Material properties of 10W40 oil at 100c. Lateral and Longitudinal acceleration values were imported from a lapsim of PBR17 on an FSAE endurance track. These lapsim values may be the reason the simulation looks sped up or artificial as the lapsim assumes the vehicle is always on the friction ellipse (if not power limited), meaning this is a simulated perfect lap with no driving inefficiencies. It also doesn't account for the time it takes the driver to press the brake/accel pedal, or for throttle lag.
Despite no air entering the outlet, I would like to run the simulation again with a larger mesh and smaller timestep in order to reduce the CFL values we are seeing. This may involve removing the baffles in order to reduce complexity.
Future growth would include enabling oil entry and exit from the tank, and linking their inlet and linking their flow rates to the engine RPM data. Since this car will have data collection, I'll eventually have real data to use with this.
