    I can’t draw, I have never been able to. I drew 1 face and my goodness, it actually looked like something. I am not exaggerating when I say I cried. I actually have the courage to keep going. I am filled with gratitude.

      I couldn't agree more! I sat down and cranked out 4 quick sketches after this video. I sketched women's faces with Neocolor II, and they turned out SO SO CUTE AND FUN! I'm not a drawer, either, but these turned out so whimsical, and with such personality, it took my breath away because I didn't think and I used crazy colors and it just "happened".
      Kaarin, I'm so happy for you. Isn't this a BLAST???

    I love your faces, Sandi! The ones you draw and your face. 🥰 From zoom meetings to lose figures and contour drawing and enjoyed this video so much that I started my Sunday doing watercolors. Keeping things loose has really helped me, I dedicated a sketchbook for ink drawing and add watercolor washes. The lines are more natural without going back and forth with pencil and fixating on making it look realistic 🥰 thank you for this channel and the endless inspiration. I find myself rewatching videos and an urge to create.

    That was so great Sandi ! it obviously inspired a bunch of us. You make it so much fun and doable. It's really helpful to see you go through your own process of being unsure if something is gonna work --and then fooling with it and voila ! it turns into something you like . Because you're in charge of the filming and editing you could cut out the parts where you feel unsure and you could make it look like you always know exactly what you're doing every second. Instead you let us see the whole creative process !! Thank you once again. ( and just for the record , I'd definitely pay for these lessons! )

      Oh man Judy, what an encouraging comment to get - thank you so much! I'm so glad it's helpful to see the process - I have 2 reasons I want you guys to see the "messy" parts - 1. to see how the process works 2. to see that it doesn't always work. I really really really want you guys to see that we don't always create good stuff. And I want to show you guys what it looks like to still have fun painting even though you didn't create a master piece but created something more worthy of the trash can than the wall but ALL of it goes into the 'master pieces'.

    I watched it for a second time, in maybe twelve to twenty four hours, because it’s that good! Thank you!
    It’s funny, because I’m always afraid that by making up faces they will seem hollow to the viewer. But these feel familiar. Maybe it’s because the proportions are correct. When you talked about using something as a reference and then said from your paintings it made me wonder if those paintings are from a reference of a specific person from life or photo.
    Also, if you haven’t done it already, I hope you’ll make a similar video of figures, and even animals. But people for sure.
    Thank you!

Time to make a bunch of faces now. 😊

      @sandihester  3 года назад +2

      Well thank you Laura!!!!! What encouragement! I steered clear of them for a long time too and then I just finally got over myself - I say that mainly because we'd be out and about somewhere and I'd want to sketch people but was too embarrassed and somewhere in doing this channel (hanging it all out there all the time) got me over it - I just worked on my 'self talk' and said "who cares - I'm never going to get better if I don't practice and if I do something bad well, then Grady and I will just laugh real hard over it and it will be worth the laugh". But even with this thumbnail I used (the last sketch I did) I was like "oh goodness, I like it - but maybe it's bad". I often just have to tell myself to shut up!

    Love love love this. Gave me a way to have confidence in tackling faces. Would love it if you did a video on side views of heads, or partly side views. Thanks!

    Hi Sandi. I'm a few months late but I'm here! Thank you for this. I've started drawing again recently, especially faces so I wanted to finally catch up on this video for your tips. Even if I'm not able to comment or keep up, please know I'm rooting for you and inspired by all the great content you've been putting out!💜 This weekend will be drawing lots of egg faces 😚

    This was a fantastic video!! Many thanks for sharing.... I am now inspired!!! I am currently into flowers and landscapes as I am more of a abstract artist.. however this has now given me some confidence to look at portraits... I have just ordered a set of Sennelier oil pastels to take a start with! I am a new sub!! I will keep watching you, as I am now hooked. - Oh and I love your fun personality, you make me smile :)

    Hello. Could you please make more "How to" videos? I can't believe that I could draw a face following these instructions. It was so much fun. More power to you, Sandi. You're an amazing human being. Everything you do is just so beautiful and inspiring. Sending you hugs.

    Good video. What people often don't know is that for realistic faces the bottom lip is always lighter than the upper lip, because the upper lip is in shadow and the bottom lip catches the light.
