Mazz, maybe in the future you can dive into the history of the shape and how it would have been cut in the old days...I had heard rumors of folks biting these before smoking? Sounds primal, but often wondered...thx!
Biting a cigar is never a good idea in my book. Especially with a shaped cigar. That will ruin the wrapper & make for a poor experience. A figurado in any shape needs a proper cutter.
On torpedoes a friend showed cut many years ago that I like ..basically instead straight across the cigar.. you angle the straight cutter about 45 degrees?.. You get more smoke without the cigar unwrapping.
Not a fan of the “Cuban cut” I’ve seen many people have a cigar unravel. Also there isn’t one real tobacco person in the industry that uses that cut. It’s unnecessary & there is no need to reinvent the wheel. Just my personal opinion
The person that showed me that technique was the owner of 2 cigar lounges in nyc that later started Viva La Vida cigars.. I agree that if you're not careful...you will damage the cigar..
Ive found rhat the v cut on shaoes sticks are always best and with robusto or a maduro stronger stick the flat is always the best to get that fuller more robust taste and pull
Thanks, brother, great info as always. Do you think the double V-cut (aka the crown cut) is ever justified or is it just a novelty with no real advantage other than "looking kinda cool" to a beginner like myself? Have a great day.
When you use a V cutter, is the top of the V facing you, or facing the other way? Is the position of the trademark sometimes an indication of which way you should face the cutter when cutting?
@@holtscigars thanks, I should have been able to figure that one out, but with the price of sticks now, I didn't want to ruin one. And, maybe others have wondered the same thing.
@@holtscigars thank you for the insight I’m in love with the billet cut but I trust your opinion 100%. Would also love some recommendations on great mild to medium bodied high quality cigars for a special occasion. Any thoughts?
We typically recommend using a V cutter for shaped cigars but if you don't have one on hand then we suggest doing a traditional straight cut with a guillotine cutter. Also just to keep in mind, there are multiple ways you can cut a cigar and that doesn't necessarily make another method incorrect
Always a professional answer!
👊
“The integrity of the shape” … Now folks this is a real connoisseur…
Stay tuned on the channel and you will be too 😉
V cut essential with a piramides. Straight cut always tempted to cut too much. Good info . Thanks
That’s a great way to look at it, my preference is to take a diagonal cut just at the edge of the end cap
Slanted straight cut - like the mouth piece of a saxophone. Always works for me.
Oooooh. Never tried that technique. Do you use that method on all cigars or just torpedoes?
@@jacobmetz3267 only torpedos. I cut it so the open part faces downward (toward my tongue).
same, I think this and V cut are the best way for torpedo/tapered cigars
Slanted straight cut is called a Cuban cut
Ohhhhh you got my favorite cigar in your hands.
I can’t see it very well … what cigar is he displaying ?
much obliged
@@boukal76 Oliva Serie V.
@@user-hx4it5nu5kBetter than Melanio?
Two slightly angled cuts with a perfect cutter works great as well.
You got me into this, Anthony!
Perfect and stylish 😁👍

A little off today on the sock/tie matching attire. But I’ll let it slide. 🙃
They don’t need to match exactly for me. There is blue in there. Good enough 😉
Thats gold 👍🏼

I agree!
I change cutter depending on the cigar... Torpedos get straight... but Vs for robusto/churchill
Interesting, we typically recommend the opposite but to each their own!
V cutters are especially excellent for that shape of cigars.
💯
Hell yeah, Mazz with the facts!
Ive found rhat the v cut on shaoes sticks are always best and with robusto or a maduro stronger stick the flat is always the best to get that fuller more robust taste and pull
Would love to see a video of what cuts you recommend with specific cigars shapes and sizes
I prefer the straight cut, I don't cut it too much though.
This.. I respect the V but straight for me
One of my favourite cigar shapes and yeah i agree. Most are triple caps so you can straight cut without worry
Finally, a use for my V cutter! 😂
Great tip.thank you

It does have a use, if I do a single v cut and the draw is still too tight, i then do a crown cut
Mostly comes down to preference
I definitely learned something new 👍😁
Nice!
I like to do the crown,
I like the punch cut.
The punch has become my preferred method lately. You can even carry one on your key ring, so it's harder to lose and you always have it with you.
Thank you for the suggestion.
I did try that on an opus earlier today and it smoked good
🙌
Boss what are those shoes u got? If u don’t mind me asking, absolutely amazing shoes, and great content and information!🤝🏼
👍👍
And the flavor isn't affected.
What about a crown cut to hold the shape open the draw and bring a beautiful top to a wonderful stick
Crown cutting a shaped cigar can be challenging since you have less surface area to work with, but you can give it a shot and see how it works 👊
Where do you get those socks?
Cool tip
Those socks and shoes with that suit? Bold choice
V cut is the only way on any cigar
Montecristo no 2 👌🏻
I always use my V cutter, unless I’m gonna smoke a 50+ ring, then I use my punch.
AGREED
True
When you use a V cutter, is the top of the V facing you, or facing the other way? Is the position of the trademark sometimes an indication of which way you should face the cutter when cutting?
You want to insert the cigar into the divet on the cutter so the V cuts inward on the cigar
@@holtscigars thanks, I should have been able to figure that one out, but with the price of sticks now, I didn't want to ruin one. And, maybe others have wondered the same thing.
No problem, thanks for the question!
❤
Yeah
I v-cut every cigar.
Same here.
What about a bullet cutter?
You can try it, but the best options for a shaped cigar would be a v cut or a straight cut
@@holtscigars thank you for the insight I’m in love with the billet cut but I trust your opinion 100%. Would also love some recommendations on great mild to medium bodied high quality cigars for a special occasion. Any thoughts?
Absolutely! We'll answer this with a short on Wednesday 😉
@@holtscigars awesome thank you so much!!
Just posted a short on some celebratory mild cigars 👊
Yeah but I don’t get the DRAW that I want from a v cut. It’s Mickey Mouse compared to straight
Bruh that sile at the end is a meme yeah
Them socks killed your integrity
You can maintain the integrity of the shape by changing the shape this way, but NOT this way…😂😂😂
You can use a straight cut or a V cut on a shaped cigar. Using a V cut maintains the integrity of the shape more than a straight cut

Finally? He gives helpful info all the time you jabroni

For me the V cut is so bad … I think that It’s use only For fashion
We typically only use them on shaped cigars for the reasons explained in the video
Sorry bro
.the legend columbo disagreed
Columbo was a fictional character 😉
@@holtscigars how dare you.🤣🤣
😂
I'm not buying that the best rollers do it..
Why's that?
What’s the best kinda cut for a box pressed cigar?
It comes down to personal preference. If it were us, we'd be using a straight cut ✂️
Why on your other video?Did you say you cut a torpedo on an angle with a
Guillotine cutter, are u just making stuff for videos 😢

Fashion catastrophe
Good thing we're not a fashion channel!
And you just dump the cut end on the chair. 😂
You have to do what you have to do for the integrity of the video. It was an easy clean up.
