Damn this is a Montser of a good Objektiv! I Like the Quality of the 24mm. Can you make a Unfair review of the same Fokal lenght against a old manual lens? I mostly use these to buy and like to know how far away iam against a modern Lens. And i could ask some other guys but your video is so good that i wish you like to do this comparson. Have a great one =)
As I shout with A7ii, so long time ago, the 28 f2 was one of my most favorite lens. The 24 is clear better but it's price worth. Your comparison is helpful as always. Thx so much... even I don't shoot Sony at the moment. Jog
One huge advantage of the 24mm GM is it’s use for astrophotographers.. the pinpoint sharpness, even at 1.4 with low, almost nonexistent coma in the corners is amazing.
Thanks for the review. I own both lenses, the 28mm was the first lens I bought (several years ago) and I've only had the 24mm a couple of months. I bought the 24mm as a travel lens for a bushwalking holiday and it's great. I hope Sony also brings out 35mm f1.4 GM, based on the great work they have done with the 24mm f1.4 GM.
Would be interesting to see a comparison between the Sony FE 24mm F1.4 GM vs Sony FE 24 mm F2.8 G vs Sony FE 24mm F2.Also would be interesting to see how well in body lens correction works.
Nice review! The question is 24mm focusing distance any better than 28? Is it worthy to buy 24mm lense from other manufacturer (Samyang, etc) or the 28mm lense from Sony if I dont have money for Sony 24mm GM?
Cool video. I own both these lens. I initially wanted to get the Sony 20mm 1 8 since I had the 28mm 2 first. For what ever reason I ended up with the 24mm instead of the 20mm. The 24mm lens is what stays on my camera now unless I'm using my 14mm or 85mm for specific shots.
Hey William, i have been to Bratislava 4 months ago what a great town! Could you film some sample ungraded shots using the HLG straight out of the A7 III? Greetings from Greece!
I'm glad that you like it here! HLG shots are not usable without color grading unless you export in Rec. 2020 which I don't do. There are much better options than shooting HLG on A7 III.
In Australia, 28mm is selling for $300 used market, 24mm is selling for well over $1600 used so its 5 times more expensive. Unless you are a professional earning money from photography, there is no reason to go for the 24mm over 28mm.
@@TheHybridShooter As I mention, if you are a professional, or a wealthy personal, by all mean, get the 24mm. Everyone else, 28mm would serve the purpose. It does 90% of 24mm for 20% the price. Use remaining 80% for trips to beautiful locations.
@@legend240891 If 28mm is enough for your purposes, good for you, but it definitely can't do 90% of what 24mm does by any stretch of imagination. As I wrote, in both cases you get what you pay for.
@@TheHybridShooter I wonder - do you re-focus for the corner test, to check for any field curvature, or take a centre-focused image and look at its corners? Thanks.
With current Sony lineup, a lot of users face 24GM + A7RIV in apsC crop mode = or better than 35f1.8 +A7III? That will be a difference of carrying two cameras or one in some scenarios. To be honest, by looking at 24GM optical quality, I probably bet on it @F1.4 beating 35FE @f1.8 on corner to corner sharpness, out of focus transition, colour rendition, bokeh, and CA. A real two lenses in one with a high resolution body, kudos to Sony.
Thanks for the comparison. It was very helpful for me to see the iq difference in the corners. I think for shooting events or concerts it wouldn't bother me, but for landscapes / nightscapes it would make a difference. Would be great to see a comparison of the 24/1.4 with the equivalent Sigma Art lens.
Thank you, unfortunately I am not a photographer or videographer and I have never made any money with photography besides RUclips, so I can't help you much there.
28mm is the only lens I have with my A7III. I think it is a great lens for my video work. Would be really really interesting to try 24mm, but at the same time I really want to buy Tamron 28-75, so I can't decide which omne will add more quality to my work :)
Great review as always! I own both lenses and the difference is obvious. I just checked your playlist but it seems that you have not reviewed the new Tamron 17-28 f2.8 lens. I am interested in a review of that lens comparing its all round usefulness to the Sony 24 f1.4. What I mean is, as I now own the 24 f1.4 ( amazing!) can I "justify" also picking up the Tamron lens for landscape, etc? I have just received the 24 f1.4 ( was away for a while) and have not had a chance to really use it. I had intended to buy the Tamron instead but it was out of stock, at the time, so I jumped on the very hard to get 24 f1.2. The Tamron lens is now available to buy, at the moment. I am looking for a wide angle to do landscape, cityscape ,etc. I had the Tamron 28-75 on my Sony a7iii on my trip and was happy with my photos but was a bit frustrated at the wide end of photographing. I enjoyed using the close focusing on it, as well. I guess I am ultimately wondering if 24 mm will be enough or will going to 17mm be a creative game changer- I will definitely be keeping the GM lens, though! Thanks for all your well balanced and thorough reviews and opinions. I have put the full notification for your channel back on!
Thank you, I already have 17-28 and I will be testing it on a shooting trip for next couple of days. The review should be available in the beginning of December.
@@TheHybridShooter That's fantastic! Please do include some sort of comparison to the 24 Gm lens, if you can. I am really looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Tamron wide angle zoom.
I had the 28mm and the render was awful. I never liked the lens. I prefered even the render of 35 2.8. Price difference betweem this two lenses is not related only to sharpness or deph of field.

Thank you! 28mm is indeed very good starter lens for Sony FF cameras.
One huge advantage of the 24mm GM is it’s use for astrophotographers.. the pinpoint sharpness, even at 1.4 with low, almost nonexistent coma in the corners is amazing.
Yes, I suppose that it will be great lens for astrophotography, although I haven't used it for that yet.

It's impressive how good the corners are at 1.4. If I had the money, 24mm all the way. If I don't have the money, well, the choice is clear then :)
Yes, the corner sharpness is really great on 24mm GM.

The 28mm is awesome and perfect for architecture photography. Of course in day light. Afterward go for the 24mm.
It is a good lens overall, but definitely not perfect for architecture due to the high distortion and corner sharpness.
The Hybrid Shooter ? but in day light above f4 sharpness isn’t an issue right ?
@@marktos9791 Depends on how much sharpness you need. It is shown in the video.

What is the best picture profile that gives you the most good dynamic range in rec709 without grading at all in the A7 III?
If you don't want to color grade your footage I recommend PP Off.
Will you test the Tamron 24mm f/2.8 as well?
I would like to see a sony 28 vs tamron 24 comparison.
Unfortunately, I won’t be testing Tamron F2.8 lenses.
I have the 28mm f2 FE and I really like it. It's good enough for me. Not planning to upgrade it to the 24mm f1.4 anytime soon.
OK.

24mm is the best wide-angle prime on the market, 28mm is average at best, so there obviously has to be a big price difference.

28mm is not weather sealed, will this damadge in extreme cold or hot conditions?
Depends on the specific situation and the amount of humidity.

Clear image zoom can only be used for jpeg. I shot RAW. The comparison was interesting.
Clear image zoom is mainly intended for video, It is useless for stills, you can just crop in post if you shoot RAW.
