Good recap! I don’t even try to rate episodes and yours were fair…ish. Ep 4 is an A+, but I can understand your ranking since you were looking for more zombies and action. But it wasn’t that kind of episode. This was a different Walking Dead episode in a different kind of Walking Dead show.
This was a Love Story. Not a CRM story. The CRM was the obstacle in the way of Rick and Michonne getting back to their family.
    But a few things:
    1) Who gave up?
*Both* Rick and Michonne. They both decided to accept their situations. His: To stay. Hers: To go back home.
And Rick didn’t buy into the CRM. Ever. He bought into Okafor’s desire to *change* the CRM from the inside. “No more A or Bs. No more Omahas.”
To that end, Rick decided that his psychological “pains and scars”, like his father’s physical injuries upon burning the crops to save his family, would just remind him that what he did by staying in the CRM was saving his loved ones.
Michonne had also recently decided to give up searching for Rick, go back home to her kids, and keep the belief in her heart that Rick is alive out there somewhere and that they’d see each other again.
Then, as it says on the screen, we get to “NOW” where their timelines converge, just like the universe planned.
    2) The CRM wasn’t taken down, just a small faction of it that was lead by Beale.
And the CRM didn’t reform “overnight”.
It had to take time for the CR to get word about the explosion at Cascadia. Remember, communication is still dependent on proximity. There’s no TV except local inside of Philly.
It had to take at least 2 days by chopper to get there from Philly to assess the damage, find Rick and get the lowdown on Beale’s plans.
The CR hearings and findings relating to what Beale was planning (a Coupe) weren't overnight.
And re: Beale. I didn’t believe that “we likely have 14 years left” nonsense. He was saying that to get Rick to be on board with the whole “March across the country, taking resources and destroying anyone in our path” plan. Have to say, Beale knew exactly how to play on people. But he didn’t know Rick was an A. And not just any A. *Super* A that was recently brought back to life by his Super A wife: Michonne Grimes.
    3) Nothing was “rushed”. Rick and Michonne had their initial plan A: get the Briefing, get Jadis’ dossier, get the hell outta Dodge on Jadis’ chopper and get back to Philly and report to the CR.
BUT Rick got the Briefing and heard “18 hrs and Portland is gone”.
Michonne sneaked into a briefing for troops and heard the Child Evan Program and she wasn't about to let that go down.
Rick and Michonne had to go to Plan B: Destroy the gas bombs meant for Portland that were staged at the tent.
Michonne had an idea how to destroy the weapons, because she learned some of Nat’s tactics while they were holed up in that mall for a year. (We saw her making scream sticks. She learned stuff an’ thangs from that guy.)
This was all done with *urgency*. If it felt rushed, it’s because you wanted it not to be over. 🤣
Anyway, like I said, good recap.
As for me, no 2nd season is needed. Not for Rick and Michonne. They’re heroes of the CR, retired, and I’m happy for them.
Let them find some other “Ones Who Live” if there’s a Season 2. I don’t want to see Rick and Michonne Grimes again until the very end, hosting a party for everyone who made it and are still alive. 😁
Thanks for a really good recap!

Thanks for checking out the video. At the end of the day I think a lot of us wanted something very unique from this show and overall I think it delivered on a lot of its promises. Not a perfect show, there are some things I still have issues with, but at the end of the day it was great seeing the return of Rick and Michonne. I have to applaud the creators for pulling that off at the very least.
