Like the tilt functionality of pencils in Fresco and Procreate are pretty phenomenal (going from thick to thin brush size just based on tilt alone). What you are saying is that they "cannot source parts" for this particular pen. That doesn't mean they won't have a replacement for it in the future -- it just means that they have to cease production in the current moment, indefinitely. They have several options: Find a new supplier/supply to continue making the same pen model. Or redesign the pen with more easily acquirable components. I wouldn't stress about it too much unless you *need* the pen right here right now, or reasonably soon
It's definitely cool. But I'm not at the level to *need* it just yet, and probably won't be needing it for awhile since I'm not working with the specific techniques that require a flat brush (yet). I can definitely see where it'd help, but I've gotten used to not using flat brushes digitally, so that can now wait a while longer until I actually *need* them specifically (such as for proper calligraphy instead of BSing a look-alike)

I bought an artpen for barrel rotation a while ago and I can safely say that It did not bring the digital art experience any closer to traditional art.
Its difficult to gauge the rotation of your pen because it is symmetrical all around. with a real flat brush you can see it rotate and have immediate feedback due to its natural shape
I suspect they're gonna do a newer generation of the artpen because right now the tracking isn't as precise as the pro pen 2 and up.

I've never understood why this technology didn't seem to "catch on". There are zero companies besides Wacom who have this feature.
I've had one of these since 2015 but I saw the writing on the wall about a year ago and forced myself to stop using it. I wanted to know if I would feel crippled without it, if there were ways to make the standard stylus do the same thing, and also whether I could switch to a less expensive tablet brand.
All it comes down to for me is that we will no longer be able to incorporate traditional methods into digital mediums. Digital stylus will become a medium more separated from other art tools, rather than being a tool that can mimic all other mediums.
I think it's sad this is not a standard feature in all drawing pens for all brands. I don't know what kind of techno wizardry is inside this device that makes it impossible to iterate on and replicate, when we live in a world where computers are palm sized.

Nice lil niche info here, thanks for the video Robert. Regrettably, I've never tried one myself. For those of you that refuse to pay a high price for getting one now, I can only recommend to keep your brush settings tab open, allowing you to rotate your tool via the software. Alternatively, one can create flipped or rotated versions of the same brush and use the brush-box add-on for easy access (this way you could have one row of the same brush, but in different orientations, easily selected via one tap). Not as intuitive as the rotating pen, and certainly far from a traditional feel, but it does the trick just as nicely. The same works with tool presets of course, though brush-box makes for a cleaner organization. Cheers, hope this helps! Have fun creating!

Yes like I work in gamedev and from the at least hounded otker pro artist I know it was just one apart from me who even had heard about it. And she though it was just the nib that was diffeeenr. She did not knew about barrel rotation.
I actually started out with the Wacom 4D I think it was called which is the art pen but for intous 3 so well must had been 25 years ago or so. I lied that even better as the nib was wider. Basically it looked exactly as a typical wider marker pen.
