- Protests against Israel’s far-right government show no signs of stopping as young Israelis are taking a stand and refusing to serve their mandatory military service. NBC’s Josh Lederman speaks with some teenagers about why many are rejecting the supposed right of passage.

There was a Jewish guy in my highschool who paid a doctor to diagnose him with severe bipolar disorder to get out of the IDF. He really had mild bipolar and owned guns but the doctor wrote a letter stating it was dangerous for him to be around weapons and couldn’t function in the military.
A girl in our class studied Japanese and moved to Japan to avoid service. Her family disowned her but they already didn’t have a great relationship and she loves Japanese culture so it worked out.
Japan is a way better country anyway
I read stories on line from Israelis admit that they purposely got pregnant to avoid the idf. One woman lied about being r*ped and said she has PTSD to get out of it. It’s sad that people don’t have a choice.
I was lucky to have a Swedish father so I could serve in the Swedish army to avoid being drafted into fighting my brothers and sisters in Gaza!

In Russia, people refused the draft because of the needless war on Ukraine - they were jailed, and Putin conscripted all prisoners to fight on the line or face execution. - an evil catch 22, when you fight Authority.

I went through it at that age. During my time, my country was in a close relationship with the Soviets, and we had the draft. My superiors were stuffed animals. Their bellies were so big that you think the combination of Yeti and Hulk was in front of you. You learn to swear on each word, behave like a brute, and obey orders of people who are dumber than you.
This is what conscription is for.

Our young boys had to do two year FORCED military service to an apartheid government, the National Party and served jail time if they refused to go.
My husband did his 12 grade school year twice just so he could avoid going to war.
We did not believe in the war or apartheid, but unfortunately because we were white we were grouped into the "privileged" section. When there was an election in 1994 I voted for a mixed race party, not the ANC, but a dominantly Christian party who had a black leader.
