  • Amanda Messer will bring you into her life's story. She will tell you of her father and how it has impacted her life. Promises have impacted her life in so many ways.
    Amanda Messer is the Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at because I said I would, a social movement and nonprofit dedicated to the betterment of humanity through promises made and kept. At a young age Amanda learned the affect that promises broken have on relationships. Her father struggled with addiction and was not good with keeping his commitments to his little girl. Amanda was drawn to helping start because I said I would knowing that there are other children whose lives are deeply affected by broken promises.

    As the youngest of five children, Amanda grew up in Lorain, OH. Prior to co-founding because I said I would, she worked at Hyland Software - one of Fortune magazine's top 100 places to work in the United States. Amanda has also served as the Vice President for the Cleveland User Experience Professionals Association. She currently resides in Lakewood, OH with her son, Trent, and her dog, Miska (pronounced Meesh-ka).
    This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

    Mine was, "I'll never play you if I don't plan on having a future with you" and that's exactly what he did, he played me, with my emotions, with my heart and soul. And all I ever did was loved him and trusted him.

    This is showing how to deal as a person who is lying but what about those who suffer from it?

    I remember reading that. I'm in the Akron area. I was watching this to see if I could learn anything to help my son deal with his dad's broken promises. Watching it made me realize the impact loving someone like that had on me and I'm 31 not 9

    My father told me that he will get me a 4000 dollars laptop but gradually lowered the price to 0 and he promised me for more that a year now he doesn't want to buy me one even though he is a multi millionaire and doesn't have any problems with money
    In my book that is lying

    I have a childhood bestfriend she is my crush then we play so much like from noon till 6pm then one day she have to move to another city we promise each other that after four years we will see each other again on my hometown so i wait for four years then she is still isnt there so i wait another four years and does not show up then onward to this day i thought everyday about her even in the past eight years then i see her in the mall she was definitely it i walk up to her and i said hi and you know what did she do she said do i know you? And my heart skips a moment and explain myself to her then she said i have not met you before but then her uncle realizes me then we tag along then when we finished in the mall she said that she intend to forget me that she hates me ,she is been annoyed by me so my emotions are mixed up like we make a promise 8years ago then i feel betrayed she is been fooling me around and my emotions cant stand it then i stopped crying,being angered then she touch my shoulder then said are you ok then i answer yes emotionless.That is why people told that im a cold person(She didnt understand the excitement i had when i see her she broke my heart like no mercy).

    how do you deal with a friend who says they will get back to you and they don't?? Is it petty to mention it?

    • @bethfurry7461

      This happens to me all of the time. I am tired of it and done with it.

    • @zion367
      @zion367 Год назад

      No, its not petty. Its assertive and an act of selfrespect.
      If they fail to come back to you, tell them that you value trust and that this behaviour is not gonna work for you.
      If they do it again then you can choose to no longer engage with them.

      Still not an excuse.

    • @KattReen
      @KattReen 3 года назад +1

      Absolutely, my dad is one of those people. It's not a great excuse if it's hurting the people around you. If I try easing my dad's burden to help him actually finish what he's started/promised other people, he'll just further increase the burden for both of us, so I've stopped helping him with anything excessive.
      I still help him when it comes to practical stuff that is just hard for anyone to do alone that are out of his control of course, like shoveling out his car if there's a crapton of snow coming down all at once, since I live within walking distance anyways. But when it comes to things he's chosen to promise some aqcuaintance, tenant, etc, he can honestly let those people down all on his own without me having to get involved while he still gets most of the credit.
      Also, she went through this. So what is the problem exactly? That you aren't capable of listening when a woman is talking?

    Blah blah blah, don't ask what your dad can do for you, ask what you can do for your dad.
