- Safety and Certification Day for the 1962 Triumph TR4....In Ontario Canada, A car must pass a safety and certification test by a licensed Mechanic in order to be legally registered (plated) and driven on the road. Today, we found out if all our hard work over the past several months paid off....
Many Thanks to Elin Yakov of Rusty Beauties fame for taking on this project with me. We had an idea and we made it happen. Check out Elins Channel here for more project updates on the 1962 Triumph TR4 / @rustybeauties
Congrats to you both for a job well done. It warms my heart to see this car back on the road again - having logged well over 100 000 miles on the car since 1966. I am looking forward to seeing it in person.
We will be at BCD for you to inspect it Keith. Cheers, Tush
@@cheftush Looking forward to it. Hope to see you both there.
@@cheftushHi Dave, are you still a good safe distance away from those terrifying wildfires?
@@philtucker1224 yes, fortunately. The fires have been very bad this year across the entire country…the air quality has suffered significantly as well.
"My uncle has a country place
That no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm
Before the Motor Law.."
Well done on the safety inspection!
I enjoyed this project.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Congratulations and two thumbs up!
Thanks David! Now on to a TR3!
Great work Gents!
An excellent finale to a great project and a truly entertaining video series. Keep working together, you're a terrific team👍
Thank You Robert. Hopefully we can work on one of Elins projects next.
Congratulations Dave & Elin!👍
Thanks Jim!
I have thoroughly enjoyed this project and the two of you together is just fun to watch …. Most of us do a lot of the work on our own … I just wish I had a wingman like either of you !!
Agreed Scott, it is nice to have a wingman!
Car looks great guys. I really wish I lived closer to you both.
Enjoyed watching both you and Elin on this project. We'll see you at the TRials.
Thanks! We will see you there. Drive Safe!
Nice job, guys!!
Thanks!
Well done fellas. A really enjoyable series and a great end result. Love watching you two 👍
Thanks!
Congratulations on a successful project, I would join Elin in a cold beer, but it is 7am, so I will wait until later.
Morning Jim! Thank You…even Elin generally waits until at least Noon for a beer 😉
I'm planning to drive up on Saturday to 6-pack trials to see it in person.
Awesome James! See you there.
Awesome job in record time! Another one saved and she is sweet.
Thanks. I really like how it turned out. It’s great not having to worry about the paint!
I'm late to the game on this project, but just love this car. Fantastic
Thanks Andrew. We appreciate it! Cheers, Tush
Sweet!!
Dave Connitt
Congratulations; great project series. Can't wait to see future videos showing the TR4 on the road trip and resumption of work on the TR3. I'm guessing at around £3000 for parts
Thank You Robin, and thanks for playing along. Stay tuned!
Glad to see that it passed its safety check on the first try. Elin will have a fun car for the trip.
Thank You Neil. Elin mentioned that he originally was looking to buy a TR4 before he bought his Spitfire, so I know he will enjoy driving it.
Great collaboration, 9200
Thanks Ronnie! And, thanks for playing. Stay tuned.
Great videos from beginning to end, the "joint venture " of the Tush Mahal and Rusty Beauties is a winner for sure.
While I understand your philosophy regarding the "as -is" finish I 'm also thinking how great the 4 would look with
a shiny coat(s) of Signal Red. Hopefully we can see this (Rusty) beauty in the flesh sometime soon, maybe at BCD ?
Hi Dennis, Thanks. Yes, it will be at BCD. I will point out all the reasons why shiny Signal Red wasn’t an option 😉
This is awesome! You guys put forward the idea that it’s possible to restore a classic car to the point of being able to drive ie as a true Lu “rolling restoration” to be able to drive the the car before its “ finished”.
Congratulations to both of you!!!
See you guys at the trials!
Dave Connitt
Thanks Dave! Roger that!
Congratulations
Zoom zoom 😊
Thank Rick!
You make more list than Schindler. Car is interesting with the patina, I like it.
The Patina is certainly different…not everyone’s cup of tea, but I like how it turned out in the end. Thanks!
Well done, looks great, now I think you both deserve a couple of weeks Slackalacking before the trip.
Surely David is used to a non-synchro gearbox in his TR3A already ? And there are 2 TR3s still to come between the 2 garages…
For the follow up final video I suggest you do a more formal comprehensive summary video where new viewers can get a complete overview of the car and project, and also those following the story through the updates can be reminded of everything that was done and why. Also it will be interesting to remember what spare parts from stock or donors were used successfully such as bumpers, exhaust, carbs etc. Also why you changed or upgraded original things that arguably were perfectly acceptable for what the car is.
For me the best thing is that a car that would have waited a long time for a full proper restoration has been quickly and cleverly revived for use and enjoyment right now, and brilliantly demonstrates what is great about these cars and the people who care for them and about them. 😊
For
Thanks John…my 60 TR3A actually has a TR6 transmission in it mated to the original A Type overdrive that came in the car. The 59 I’m currently working on has the non synchro trans though, so driving the TR4 will be good practice for me. Good idea on the follow up video… I’ll try and do something like that when I do a photo shoot at my favourite location.
Really good to see it up and running, and I’m totally on board with the pragmatic approach. While I appreciate a completely rebuilt perfectly clean and shiny car, I do prefer one that’ll get some use. As demonstration of that, my Spit’s done over 600 miles in the past few weeks!
Yes, if we hadn’t gone with this plan, the TR4 wouldn’t have been touched for the next 10 years as we have three projects prior to that.
Congrats to you both David, your accomplishment is ever greater when you think that you also videoed, edited and uploaded videos for the project as well. I know how long this takes! best regards, Geoff from Merimbula Australia
Thank you very much Geoff.
Great job guys! Tell Elin to get his GT6 out of the corner!!
He’s working on dragging it out. He’s a busy guy 😉
Congratulations to you both for a job well done. It's been a great series (different) and very enjoyable to watch. As for the cost of getting to this stage, I dread to think .. Much more than I'd guess I recon 😅...
Oh, have a go at a guess…it’s only for fun 😉
Nicely done gentlemen! I really look forward to seeing/hearing it live on our trip to TRials in a few weeks!
Thanks Skip!
Thats great, congratulations. Working together you two did a fantastic job. My guess is $5500.00 cdn
Thank You Barry and thanks for playing along. Stay tuned!
This has been a great project to folllow, you two guys have worked well together. I couldn't guess how much you spent on the car but, what ever it was it was well spent. The car looks great, and no doubt now worth a great deal more than you have put into the car. I think what you have both done is amazing, carry on the good work from the UK
Thank You Peter. I’m happy with the end result. I’m sure we will have to chase a few bugs before we are truly done….
I rally like that build but glad you will be getting back to the 3, I am sure i am biased but i am good with that. No Sh&t that really came out great
Yep, as soon as I get back from the TRials, my focus will be on the 3A
Congratulations guys and great teamwork !!! Enjoy the up coming trip ! I’m going to guess $5,549.38 USD on the cost. Look forward to your next projects. Cheers!
Thanks Robert! Stayed tuned.
What a great series and beautiful car. I'm going to guess $4,900. Looking forward to seeing you both in the convoy south!
Hey Tom! Thanks. If you are going to BCD, we will see you before then. Thanks for the guess!
Congratulations looks great sounds great.Yes it’s very important to work with someone it’s like working with yourself. My guess total cost parts 18k
Good luck and enjoy the journey
Thank You Frank, it’s been a fun project.

Are you and Elin going to the VTR show in Diilard Georgia Sept 27th -Oct 1st. It is our club putting it on and help with all that’s good to be going on. Hopefully I’ll see you guys there. Great looking and different car but it’s a keeper for sure
@@frankmgallo hi Frank, trust me Ronnie B has been trying to get us to come for over a year 😉. Wish we could come, but logistically, it’s not possible this year. We would love to have come. It sounds like You are going to have a wonderful ( Huge) gathering!
@@cheftush
Absolutely yeah we are working closely with Ronnie he’s one of the best people in the in the Triumph community. Hopefully next on. Be safe stay healthy and drive the shit out of them cause they like it.
Looks great! Nice Job. $3025 is my guess.
Thank You Stephen and thanks for playing along!
Awesome. Such a great feeling to get it street legal. And I love the patina look that you guys ended up with. Good job to the both of you! Just a good example of not having to make it perfect to have it "perfect". And, as for a guess, I'd say you're looking at about $3500 USD (whatever that is CAD).
Thanks Chris! And, thanks for playing along.
I was going to guess $4k, Chris and I are close. I also dig it, the car is going to be a hoot and that's what it's really all about 👍😎
@@ericpfiffner5615 hi Eric! Thanks for playing along. Stay tuned !
Nice wheels Dave, passenger door was a bit concerning regarding frame flex, are you happy with that part now?
Hi Phil, yes the door adjustments we did worked out so the door isn’t popping open now randomly….now we have to get the bonnet from doing the same 😉. We have a short list of this to fix before we head out on our road TRip…
Great job David and Elin! You guys are so talented. My guess is 7800$ ( canadian $) in parts.
Thanks Patrice and thanks for playing along! Stay tuned.
Budget guess I 3500. She looks great my favourite era. Of triumph
Thanks! We had fun working on her.
Peter Egan at Road&Track magazine calculated the cost of his diy labour for restoring his old British sports car projects at $0.13 (13 cents- US) per hour 😀
That’s about right 😉
Great project! Love the car. I know you wanted to keep all the patina but I think I would have tried to touch up the front of the bonnet a little to allow the badges to really shine and I think I would have changed the top of the dash. I would love to take a guess on the cost to get the car back on the road. Whatever the cost, I am sure it is worth the expense. It is a good solid car that will last another sixty years or more.
Thanks David…we actually went a lot farther than we anticipated on the body work. Elin wanted to leave ALL the rust and repairs visible, particularly at the rear of the car where is was quite bad. I couldn’t go that far though so we had to compromise. The dash top has been quite a discussion piece to be sure. It doesn’t really bother me. I’m happy overall with the way the car came out…it’s certainly been a different kind of project for me…go ahead and take a guess on the cost…it’s just for fun. 😉
Ok, I guess you had some parts from other cars so I think you would have spent at least $4500 on new parts and your labour is free I am sure. @@cheftush
@@davidwarr8600 yes, our labour is free😉 thanks for playing along, stay tuned.
Fantastic job. Give hope to all of us that have cars in pieces for 5+ years. Must not have a wife if you are totaling and revealing how much you spent on it. 🤑
Lol Craig, correct, I’m not married. The cars are my children 😉
Fantastic! Now take it to Earl Scheib! 😂
Lol Bruce, I know! You and my Mom are on the same side.
@@cheftush A lady of fine taste. My grandson calls me the curator. He says I am addicted to museum style. Ah well, where's my feather duster?
Congrats, I know how much the carb rebuild was, so let's say 6500 all in. Also, does it get checked on Elin's octopus?
Lol you have insider information 😉 The octopus is on the to do list in the next week or two. We also want to redo a compression test just for fun.
Labour charges is a subjective. It depends if time was a cost or time was a benefit…..
I couldn’t afford to restore cars if I had to pay me 😉
I'll guess 4000 dollars. Yikes I believe that's more than it cost new!
I believe it was around $2900 US back in the day to buy a new one….thanks for playing, stay tuned.
My guess is $ 6500. (Cdn)
Thanks for playing Tom…stay tuned!
$12,500 US
Thanks for playing! Stay tuned.
OMG, please, I beg you, do not do a video showing the costs of restoring this car. If my wife happens to see it, I will be in big trouble.
Lol. Sorry!
C$9250
Thanks for watching and commenting and for playing along. Cheers, Tush
I would guess you spent $5000 USD
Thanks for playing Scott. Answer coming up within the next day or two…stay tuned.
