Needle threader - you have to have presser foot down and hold tension on the thread. Works every time. My SE is 20 years old and still going strong. Love it.
Viking/Pfaff has the patent on the sensor system (the auto-lift and auto-adjusting foot) and that’s why other brands have to pull the foot control plug when using the Start/Stop button. Same with other brands that try to incorporate some sort of auto-lifting foot. I absolutely love my Viking machines. The sensor system is something I refuse to sew without, it’s a total game changer.
I'm very impressed. One day I'll need to buy a modern machine. The only time that I sew is when I want new draperies. I make five layer draperies on my grandfathers old metal machine from the 1930s, a White Rose from England. Gramps was a furrier. My mom made most of our clothing when we grew up. She'd stand in front of Bloomingdales and B.Altman's at night and sketch the things she liked in the windows for the season. I had no idea that modern machines contained storage for bobbins and needles in the removable part of the free arm. I have a wicker sewing basket and a Danish cookie tin. Such a shame that home made things are becoming a lost art.
My SE started doing the same thing flashing lights. I was a a able to find an independent local repair shop that replaced somethings on an electronic board and it runs like new. He was actually an electrical engineer.
I can tell you know a lot about this machine. Even though I have owned an SE for 10 years, I have learned new things about it in this video. My machine's mother board died last week and I was considering buying a newer model in the Designer collection. I debated about this because I had heard that all newer models are made in China not Sweden and they had lots of problems. You pointed that out too, so I'm going to hunt for another SE. Thanks! I wish your video was not so dark!
i have this viking designer SE how do I set my machine to do different color thread when embroidering its not stopping for me to change the thread color only doing one color
Not close to my machine right now, but hit the question mark in upper right corner then go to color change and it should explain to you where to toggle it on or off for one color embridery or all color. Please repost if you haven't found it yet!
Make sure your needle is placed far enough into the needle holder, or not too far. I noticed, on my huskvarna SE, if the needle wasn’t placed correctly into the holder , it can not line up with the threader pin. Also I agree that you may have to straighten, move the threader pin, as it does get bumped and tension of the thread can move it enough to mis-align the threader pin and the needle hole. Don’t be afraid to ‘tweak’ small parts, VERY CAREFULLY, to align them to original position.
I just inherited a Husqvarna designer SE. I watched your video and tried to figure out how to wined my bobbin but must be doing something wrong it’s to loose. My handbook doesn’t cover that small detail. I see one Y shaped guide I did use. I’m wondering if the round button shaped kinda by where you thread machine. Is that for winding bobbin also ??
I love that startup sound too, great things to come... mine died a few months ago, my repair man said computer is out, $1,000 to repair. Searching for a way to bring her back to life. Enjoy your machine, they are so much fun!
I just found out a girlfriend has this Designer SE machine. It was a gift & lives in a closet! So I lm inviting her & machine to lunch. I can’t wait to try it. I have a Pfaff 7570.
By any chance, had the cd rom which is used for embroidery go kaput for me Where can a new cd-rom replacement be found .. looked everywhere ... even ebay ...

Loved your review on SPR! Do you still have the same love? Just purchased it DOA in need of capacitors for $2.50 at a thrift shop, including only the embroidery unit, cases and a needle. No accessories, no accessory box, no feet. Mega hoop I went back and found for $4. The videos from Sewing machine repair guy gave me the courage to do the replacement of the capacitors and I now have a running machine. I really enjoyed reading your review and searched Google for your username, finding this video I'd already let run my first couple days while doing research.
Hi Bobby; Greetings from South Africa, I currently have the Viking Designer 1 and had it serviced recently. However, when it came back the screen would not work. It is booked in again for the Husqvarna dealer Technician to have a look as well. I saw the Viking Designer SE and watched your video, Thank you for that... as it will help me to decide if I should go for the Designer SE as a backup or perhaps the Designer 1 as backup and use the Designer SE as my main machine. Have you had any difficulty in parts since 2018? Regards
Do you have any other videos on this machine? This one is very dark. It is good, though. How do you fill the bobbin and how does the bobbin go in? Someone just gave me one of these exact machines and I know nothing about it! Thank you so much!
The needle threader probably works. The technique for it is different than a Brother. I see you are just pushing down on it and letting it go back up very quickly. You have to hold it down with left hand and be sure the wire catch is through the needle eye. Then pull thread across the eye of the needle--release the threader slowly. It may be annoying if you are used to something different--but it works and is easier than threading manually.
Do you have any more tutorials? My mother in law just gave me one that she didn’t use for years, but I’m feeling totally lost and having trouble with the software 😢
@Bobby P This sounds crazy but I want a Husq D SE! I keep watching on Ebay, the cheapest I have seen a SE is $1000. I plan on calling different sewing machines çompanys to ask about any trade ins like you did! I have no idea where you live but could you give me the name of the Sewing machine place where you purchased yours. Please... and Thank you!
Just ask about the capacitor. On used machines that is the part that went on mine. I bought it used from a reputable, high end dealer. Paid $1000. For Viking designer SE. Love the machine. I have others I used for workhorse work and used hush for better garments I made for others. I used it lightly, but over time. Hours and wear were minimal on my part. But I got the flashing dashboard lights. Most say it’s capacitor. No on locally would even touch it. If the would, they wanted $1000. to go in. Needless It is still sitting there. Grateful I finally came across a repair man on line recently. Send the boards and he seems very reasonable for $149.00& postage. Just ask your seller about inside of machine, if private sale, you have to decide. Good Luck.
Hi Bobby, just found your channel because my SE’s tension is off and I’m trying to sew face masks for friends because of the Coronavirus. I can pull the top thread right out of the sewing. Can’t find my books because we are in the process of moving. Can you help me?😢
I think I fixed it, the thread in the bobbin was not clicked in, I removed the bobbin and put it back and the thread like clicked in and now it’s sewing looks good! On with my cloth Coronavirus masks for my friends.🤗

@Lacy Gene Do you have a laptop computer, you can buy any designs, load them in your computer. Now you need a 3 1/2 floppy drive, I ended up with 3. I will sell you 1 of mine.I have new disks that I purchased to stash back. I will sell a cheap box of 10 disk. Did you buy any software? There are 10 programs in their 6D Pro. I can make you a DVD of it. It's called Convert & Sort by Husqvarna. It allows you to take your design from another format to a format Husqvarna Designer 1 recognize. Hook up your 3 1/2 floppy to a USB port. Now you can have all the fonts you like. What is funny, I am looking on ebay for a Husqvarna Designer SE. I paid a big $$ for my Husq Viking Designer 1, I am not going to do that again. I have a Husq Husky 936 serger with all kinds of attachments & feet. It has a computer screen for you to pick what stitch you want. It automatically makes all the settings! I just moved most of my craft room downstairs.

Lacy Gene no it’s a great machine. Try the directional stitching, it’s you can sew a patch on clothes that won’t turn in a small space. It’s such a great machine. Ask me anything about sewing. Ok
My friend got one from her mother in law and we both have tried to run it and it's a nightmare! It's so hard to learn because it's not intuitive at all like Brother or Baby Lock.
