This Psychedelic Furs is one of these bands that should have been in the RRHOF a long time ago. They are so under rated they have a lot of hits, maybe not #1's but all are in the top ten. I shouldn't mention it since this is a Psyc. video and comments but still the other is Talk Talk. Very good group's and music.
Richard Butler was a very good frontman. His movements and stage mannerisms are very natural. He's really into his music, or he's great at pretending he is. That's an art and a talent every bit as valuable as being good at an instrument.
I saw them in 1984 late at night in the pitch black with the best lightening storm I've ever seen, huge streaks of lightening crashing down to earth and the rain was so heavy umbrellas crumpled under the weight of it, were you there, Glastonbury main stage ? did you get wet, we all wore bin liners, the puddle at the front of the stage was like two feet deep in places, people were swimming in it, the wettest festival I've ever been to by a long way,
Wow. I relate. I saw them in 1982 in New Orleans, and afterward there was this freaking gale force wind and heavy sideways rain we all had to run out in. They are magic.
I was in Washington D.C early 90's. Tin Machine and the Furs were playing the same night. I went to Bowie's band show. Wish I had be savvy enough to do both.
How does this have no comments!!!!!!!????!??!!!!!! Holy crap thank you for owning this posting it etc. Seeing it in all its 80s effects, screen lines, imperfect picture. Andddd you can still hear the vocals clear. Could watch it over and over.
I started with the p-furs with their first USA show at the Paradise in Boston in 1980. The original lineup had more urgency, musical complexity and aggression. The band was driving forward led by a powerful drummer and horns. Butler mesmerized the stage with his mystical spirit and kabuki style movement. Less was more. There was room for listeners to get lost and dream away with the band. This show, 4 years later, shows a huge compromise the band made to mute their sound to appeal to a wider audience and fit into an 80's theatrical pose where style becomes more important than substance. There is nothing to dislike about their performance, however it is bland. The sound is muted, the energy does not threaten but neither does it reach any outer dimensions. The band is merely going through the motions. What a shame! This is a band that broke new musical ground at their inception, uniting Rimbaud /Dylan like poetic verse with the Sex Pistols boundary breaking. Everyone needs to make compromises, the Furs made a very large one and lost their soul. God Save the Queen.
Beautifully articulated. You've touched on more critical points, and with an accuracy I likely couldn't match. But just listening as I type, they truly are one of the greatest groups in the history of the rock genre. I mean they have to be.
So good, So good. Saw them early 80s Leeds. Old bingo hall on Rounday Road, Harehills, ish. When they started playing the big sound almost pinned me to the back wall. We need Richard Butlers.
Thanks for posting this. So glad I got to see them a few times before Duncan Kilburn left. This sax player is terrible and the guy that came after him is worse.
No, that was not common on Spanish TV, as it was not common to have live music on TV by the best bands of the time. La Edad de Oro was a rare and unique TV show with live music, art, comics, and more. They gave relevance to the lyrics by offering a translation with subs. It was a space of music, art and freedom at a time when lots of things were changing in the Spanish society. I was lucky enough to be a teenager at that time growing and learning with La Edad de Oro
I'm a FOS fan, who has known them way back, and seen recently (Mike Score's latest FOS line-up), but, I don't see much correlation in their sounds. They did emerge at the same time, so there must be some similarities, but, I think they are each their own. ✌️💖
Bowie clones 10 years later just like Bauhaus i just don't see the point in bands like this nevertheless great musicians i have to admit and some songs are really good singalongs
This is the most cringeworthy look Richard has there....the hair, the sunglasses, whatever the fuck he's wearing as clothes... I mean sure it's the 80's but i struggle to find some of his contemporaries that were as awfully dressed even with the benefit of insight.
Well, it's going to get "Cringeworthy" for you once again. Wide pants are coming back into style. Also, I don't see how his clothes are confusing you. Then again, you probably dress/ed boring :)
This tour is the first I saw of many from the Psychedelic Furs. They were great then and still great now.
Thanks for sharing!

I love the Furs but you definitely made the right choice. I saw the Tin Machine show in Boston. They were great and only toured US that one time.
Treasure!

It's nice to see old footage of the band. 31:50 makes me want to sing.
Was it common on spanish tv to translate song lyrics with subs!?!? That seems very unusual. i've certainly never seen this done on French tv....
I think they are just a description of the show
@@TravisBickle1963 no i know just enough spanish to see it's lyrics.
Spain was, is and will be always different... that´s all
