Create Windows Bootable USB on Ubuntu | Command Line Method

- The process of how to create a bootable Windows USB Flash Drive on Ubuntu Linux computer using command line terminal. The process can also be used on other Linux operating system such Linux Mint , Debian, etc. also with similar steps.
Steps:
1. Download Windows ISO file
2. Open Terminal
3. Insert a Flash Drive
4. Make it bootable with DD command:
$ sudo dd bs=4M if=[ISO source] of=[Destination Flash Drive] status=progress oflag=sync
A Flash Drive of 8 GB or more can be used to make it Windows bootable. Ensure that there is no data on the flash drive as it will be erased.
You can use this flash drive to install Windows on any computer.

So I've read the article. Maybe you can help me figure out my problem. I have followed all of the instructions carefully and got all files required onto my usb. But when I go into boot options Usb doesn't show. I have already turned off secure boot.
You need to enable boot from USB. such option to turn on boot from USB is available at different locations in BIOS setup in different brand computers. Did you create windows usb in command line mode?
@@TechSolvePrac I did create it in command line mode. Also it's enabled to boot from usb. It kept giving me the option before when I was doing it wrong and I would click "USB" but I would get an error. Then once I did command line it doesn't show anymore.

It is under different menus at different places in different BIOS setups. You to look for some settings where you can boot from your flash drive before booting in from hard disk. This video demonstrates the BIOS of HP laptop.

Check for any typo errors in the command you typed. Cross check from description of the video.
when i boot from the usb it says no bootable device
Please ensure that the Bootable drive is successfully created.
it doesn't work due to you didn't make your usb stick bootable and primary. you just burnt iso, but it didn't make it bootable.
If ISO files are burnt in DD mode they become bootable automatically. If you burn ISO files as data copying then it won't become bootable. Thus, this method will burn it and make it bootable.

Was the files written on disc? Please check the disk size after writing is complete. Also bootable files should appear on disk after re-inserting it on completion of disk write ng operation. The files should take more than 5GB disk space after writing operation. After that you need to check whether you are able to switch to usb device as first bootable device in you BIOS setup. Try disabling secure boot and then booting from flash drive.

You should try NTFS partition. Because Install.wim is larger than 4 GB, such a problem occurs in FAT32.
It's true that FAT32 doesn't support files greater than 4 GB. This implies that a single file of 4GB cannot be stored on a FAT32 partition. In case of flashing the ISO file (which is a collection of multiple files and directories packaged together), the file structure is copied on to the usb rendering multiple files and not a single file of greater than 4 GB.

You should have Windows key. Or else, if you had pre-installed windows on your PC, then try to restore it using restore key. The key to restore can be found out by with your supplier using model number of your PC

Bro I successfully made bootable windows pendrive after watching your video but unable to boot
to boot from the flash drive. You need to press a function or other special key (Del, Esc, F10, F2, etc..) to enter bios as soon as systen is power on. Generally the choice is briefly flashed on screen when the computer powers on.
Enter BIOS/ UEFI setup, turn off secure boot, enable boot from usb option, save settings, restart.
Press some function key again to display boot menu (F9, F12, etc...) to display boot menu, boot from usb, install windows and turn on secure boot again. The function keys are different on different make and model of computers, the required key is generally displayed when system boots.
If still not booting then try "Enable legacy boot" option then try again.
What format should the usb be ?

what is mean of dd bs=4M and why is 4M ( i mean 8M 16M )
That is the block size of writing files. One block size is 4 Mega Bytes.

This could be a DVD Usb or Hard disk drive. If you have a CD DVD or usb with the driver on it, please insert it now"
Drivers can be installed after installation too... First we need to install operating system
@@herethere5637 drivers are required to run supporting functionality such as audio-video, network, etc. Those drivers will be installed automatically if you are installing latest version windows operating system. Otherwise they need to be manually installed...

I have a windows laptop 64 bit 4 gb RAM with 1 TB storage. I had to change to linux because of the lagging issues. I am again installing Windows. But this time, I'm thinking to install windows 10 32 bit so that lagging stops. Can you advice me what steps I should take in order to run windows OS smoothly on my laptop without having to switch to Linux. The issues are it gets very slow, lags and white screen with not responding error. Also it is allergtic to Multi tasking.
Actually 32 - bit and 64 - bit are CPU architecture. Installing 32 bit will not solve lagging issue. Instead you should upgrade your RAM to at least 8 GB for Windows 10 to function smoothly. As windows is too resource hungry it will need higher RAM for smooth experience. Do you want to install Windows as a single boot or dual boot operating system? @@ajay.chawla Windows 7 comparatively will work better with low RAM. Do you have windows 7 ISO file? As Microsoft officially do not provide windows 7 ISO now. It only provides windows 10 ISO officially.

You need to enter BIOS and set to boot from windows bootable media to install Windows.
