Reichstag assault in CoD 1. The moment was so glorious I started to wonder why this track wasn't played when we were fighting in Reichstag's meeting room and corridors.
"Comrades, today you have achieved great glory! Because of you courage and strenght, the German army has been driven back and the city of Kharkov is once again ours! From this day forward we shall not take another step back until this war is won! Fight on!"
One of my high school students was playing this theme on his trumpet and I started singing the words that I knew with it. I said it was a hymn from my church. He was shocked. The music was written by Thomas John Williams in 1890.... yes, you are reading right, 1890. "Once to Every Man and Nation" text was written as a poem by James R. Lowell in 1845 to protest America's war with Mexico. This particular video's version is a beautiful orchestration of music from 1890. Thanks for posting it.
Thank you for this comment. I played this game as a kid and loved this song, then when I went to the American Cemetery at Omaha beach I heard the song playing on the bells in the main monument and have been trying to figure out what the actual song was forever.
nikodem maciejewski I agree. I played them all from release date on... I have over 10000 hours played between CoD,CoD:UO and CoD2.. great times... 2 bad I had to grow up xD
Chill Seriously Bro. Did you even read my comment? I said that the old cod's are better than the new ones. So basically I'm saying that BO1 is the last good CoD and then after it everything is trash. CoD BO1 is a quite old cod. If you don't understand then I'm not talking to smartasses like you.
The weird thing is that this is based on a hymn of Welsh origin, but fits the Russian-ness of the scene like a glove. Someone who's studied music would know why.
@@LittleBigVathole The song was originally composed as a Christian hymn tune called Ebenezer by Thomas John Williams in 1890. However, the tune was written in 1829 with the original name of Holy Manna. It was written by William Moore. The tune is used in many Christian hymns and also happened to be used in COD because of its strong and mighty tune.
"The one with the rifle shoots! The one without, follows him! When the one with the rifle gets killed, the one who is following picks up the rifle and shoots!"
So nostalgic. I remember waiting months for the game to come out, playing the demos and reading previews for the game. It makes me sad in a way thinking about those great times I had playing this game(singleplayer and multiplayer). Incredible game.
I especially love this piece because it sounds so very Russian. Not necessarily Soviet, just Russian. It speaks of and to the people, not the flags they wave.
I was just 8 when I was used to play this game with my brother and I remember getting scared of this mission. It's incredible how time really flies so fast, I miss those simpler times to be completely honest...
If they made this game in HD and better graffics and stuff it would be great but also this one is BEAST. I remeber the comander always say’s “NOT ONE STEP BACK, VICTORY OR DEATH!!!” liked it.
No hesitation comrades. Not one step backward. For mother Russia comrades. Do not turn your back on her. VICTORY OR DEATH! ARHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! *cue epic music*
@Srozzi The tune is "Ebenezer", also known as "Ton-Y Botel" ("Tune in a Bottle"). Quite a few hymns have that tune, one of them being "Oh the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus."
-_- Ahhhh! how could I have made that mix up?!! I loved United Offensive because it was the one with the bomber mission! Still I stand at them hopefully maybe remake the the first and the expansion. With todays Tech the developers can easily bring home the idea of War is true hell.
Both CoD1 and CoD United Offensive were the best. I think none will repeat the atmosphere and the music. Still all CoD's are awesome but sadly the campaign is being too short by now. Still it's the best of all War and FPS Games on PC
@SinDawg030 fought with tens of millions of men, more like hundreds of thousands, as war has changed alot, we went from charging each other with Sticks, stones and numbers, to Cavalry charges, then we witnessed massed gunfire which would have been called:"Impossible!" a thousand years earlier, and today, armies can be crushed with impunity with the creation of more advanced ballistics.
@Crusnik2000 Certainly it was a mistake from the get go, but I might argue that under certain conditions the Nazis may have just barely pulled off a successful invasion. We must keep in mind that the only power the the Russians ever held was in the west with Novgorod, St. Petersburg, Stalingrad, and Moscow. The east is a desert of snow. Had someone like Rommel been leading Barbarossa with a blank check and unlimited control, it could have been done I think.
They should really work on is remastering all the old cod games. Even all the medal of honors. Who doesn't want to feel nostalgia when playing these games. This is child hood right here.
"Listen comrade, we are both dead men whether we stay here or go back! Let's you and I try to find a way to flank them!" that line and the proceeding scene where the Russians charge into the Nazi line screaming just shows how much was at stake. The Russian effort of World War II must never be undermined.
Red Army troops were forced to charge German battle lines. They lost a lot of troops during the charge and if troops turned back, they were mowed down by their own machine guns

Most emotionally powerful moments in the series:
Red Square - CoD 1
D-Day - CoD 2

I would say that the beginning of cod finest hours is up there with these moments

Back when they actually had a great story
i could not agree more my friend
It wasn't just story. It was about war, realism and feelings.

MelancoliaI I study music, and the reason it fits so good, it is because it matches the might and strength of the Russians.

Strange that they would use the tune of a Christian hymn in a video game.
They used a good one at that.
why does that matter?
This was used for this game, it's expansion pack and finest hour (which is cod 1 version of stalingrad)
