    Hey everyone, Justin here to point out an error that I likely made during this video. Hank's ability likely means pointing to "you" as in Hank, but not "you" as in the player, so you cannot soak damage or horror for other investigator or ally assets, but only on him. Notably, this likely would've changed my approach for the deck completely and while I would build it differently now, I'll leave this deck up for people who may be interested in this deck still.

      Is there a new variant of this deck that takes this into account?

    • @PlayingBoardGames
      @PlayingBoardGames  2 месяца назад +1

      @@DrMcFly28 No, it just changes how you approach your tanking. Your damage and horror should go on your assets, while what tanking you may do for your teammates is reserved for Hank's health and sanity.

    Direct horror at the end of the round from the weakness is easy and punishing to forget.
    I'm glad to get confirmation that BFFs Pete and Jessica work like I thought they do.

    As always love the video and insights. Ward of protection seems like an autoinclude for me for Hank. Keep up the good work

    I've built a very similar deck (some differences due to lack of pool). Biggest difference is that I plan to juggle my weapons/tools with tool belt.
    Great format btw.

    I'm totally on board with no in the thick of it on Calvin, not sure about Hank tho . Building towards tankin makes you really resilient and I think you are totally safe with the initial trauma, maybe even more than regular investigators. Calvin has his weakness hunting you for being greedy, Hank has 10-10 soak, I think you can totally be greedy .
    Especially since you can't heal but you can "heal"
    Liking this format a lot!

      @Spanner1971B 4 месяца назад

      This would allow you to start with 2 (1) copies of Pentacles in the deck, giving you 1 (2) more 'free' xp. Pentacles literally pays for the 1 of each Trauma which "disappears" when you Resolute.

      @@Spanner1971B i dont think it's worth the slot, rather run more soak

    • @PlayingBoardGames

      I think you could potentially get greedy, but it means that one bad encounter card can throw you off. I do think that Hank's game changes immensely when you hit his second form and I will be playing him with the mindset to stay in that first form as long as possible. I look at the potential cascade of trauma being really crippling for Hank down the road.
      Say you gain 2 or 3 more trauma after that initial 2, now you're looking at more trauma eating into your first form, which means you'll enter your no healing mode quicker than you wanted.
      Add on that Hank's deckbuilding is bigger, which means he is actually going to be less consistent on his mulligan. And the response to that may be to add more soak, but that's cutting into the cards that allow you to actually win the game as opposed to not lose.
      Again, you may be right that running In The Thick Of It isn't a problem. Buttttt a lot of people assumed that In The Thick Of It would be fine for Calvin and it is not fine for Calvin. I'm erring on the side of caution, because I think that like Calvin, Hank has a potential trauma cascade that can ruin your gameplan immensely.

    • @DrDifra
      @DrDifra 4 месяца назад

      @@PlayingBoardGames yeah i mostly agree , but I think the main point for Calvin is that he is bound to take trauma because of his weakness. At standard I don't find myself getting that much trauma at the end of a campaign (except Tfa obviously)
      But if you think about it in a different way, take Preston, or I don't know Marie lambeu (just picking randoms) they don't usually run much healing at all, and they might have better mythos protection but survivor have better soak. Especially if you play him as you said, not rushing second form, I think he's pretty tanky and I wouldn't be afraid of trauma! If you are playing the rush 6 punch game well, then you are playing with fire...
      Anyway, thanks for the response !

    Really like the format. Made me think of something else -- what about having a "first time player" deck guide for each class? Decks with simple mechanics and basic upgrade ideas for noobie players could be helpful to folks who are looking to teach something outside of the starter decks as the entry point.

    Am I misreading hatchet? The way I read it and the way you explained it at around 12:30 don’t match up. To me if you defeat the enemy you just discard it and if you don’t then it gets stuck on them.

    • @PlayingBoardGames
      @PlayingBoardGames  4 месяца назад

      No, you aren't misreading it. I just misspoke and said defeated instead of damaged for the initial ability of the card.

      ah ok, was hoping I misunderstood. Seems like a good weapon for 3 health enemies, but kinda awkward for 2 health. @@PlayingBoardGames
