「人生で一番辛かった」子供時代の多言語多文化教育をサポートすべく、起業。20か国で述べ350名以上の海外帰国子女を支援する水田氏による、子供たちや、帰国子女の子供を持つご両親へのメッセージ。
Saeko grew up among two worlds - Japan and the US - and based on her own experience of a multilingual and multicultural childhood, she founded TCK Workshop, an education company that supports children to through the social, cultural and academic challenges involved in international relocation.

I’ve lived overseas for the majority of my life and have just moved to Japan as a student.... and the pain 😂 Being underestimated and judged sucks but this made me want to hang on!!
大学生の帰国子女です。国内外含め転校を多く経験しましたが、周囲に適応するのが大変でした。日本に帰国してから8年程経ちますが、適応障害の様な症状(息苦しさ、絶望感、頭痛など)があり、生きている事が辛いと感じます。私の家族含め周囲の人にあまり理解してくれる人がおらず、誰にも相談できないです。
Have you ever tried to commit suside as many other japanese ? This world is not acting easy on everyone. 悲しい時,新しい言語を習ってみてください

This is so true. I see in my own TCK children and my students. Even though they speak the local language fluently, there are several aspects of life and education that they need to express in their mother tongue. Excellent presentation. amazing speech. i related to this on a spiritual level lol i can’t be really funny or interesting in english cuz those aspects of me are all under the control of my japanese brain!! ppl easily say things like u should talk more n you r so serious… and i’m so so frustrated every time. it almost makes me feel as if i have to watch a tutorial video on how to joke around in english lol my accent and my grades are perfectly fine so they never even imagine that i’m going through some language problems in a daily life context. even the teachers!!! so every meeting w my teachers i kinda try to emphasise that english isn’t the only language that i speak.
TCKの問題について、もっと社会的な理解が進むべき。
日本の親や一般の感覚は、語学力といった利点だけに目が向けられて、そういう子どもが国内で受ける疎外感には大抵目が向けられない。

私も帰国子女で、どこにも馴染めずでしたが、帰国子女じゃなくても、性格や個性が理由で居場所がない、馴染めないという方も沢山いるようにも思います。色々な個性が受け入れられる世の中になると良いですね。

This talk was conceptually and structurally so worthwhile! I saved it for future work with multicultural students. Saeko-san, I hope you won't mind if I suggest that you minimize your gestures, many of which detract, rather than add to your very important message? When I coached Japanese students preparing for speech competitions, I often cautioned them against developing a habit of excessive, routinized gestures. Thanks again for the excellent material presented.

私も幼少期から高校卒業時までカナダに住み、日本語と英語の両立以外に、更にフランス語も無理に学ぶ事を強いられました。言語の習得にはかなり苦労して、途中から学力も低下してしまいました。帰国子女として日本の大学に入りましたが、文化や言語対応は非常に困難で大人になってから鬱病にかかりました。今は日本やアメリカで仕事していますが、正直帰国子女の辛さは共感できます。
また、このスピーカーの方、一見英語は流暢ですが、3:28のところでmanipulateの発音が少し変であったり、人前で話す際に必要以上と思われる手の動きや不自然なジェスチャーからして、恐らく帰国子女として自己確立に苦労されたのかなと推測します。
個人的には楽しい記憶しかないな 言葉の面で大変な部分はあったけど。環境が変わることへの違和感は個人差が大きいかもね。この方のようなタイプもいるし、俺みたいなノンキなアホもいるってことで

結論から言うとつまらなかった
１ 英語が分らず字幕で見たから？英語で聞き取り理解できれば変わってくるのかな？
２ TEDは研究者や思考の深堀りの結果などその道のプロの話を聞けるものと勝手に期待しているから？（ただの団体職員のお願いにしか聞こえなかった）
３ 自分がアホすぎて会話のレベルについていけない？
どちらにしても１年後にもう一回見てみます
その時どう解釈するか楽しみ
そうです、私は英語が聞き取れて、感傷的な女が愚痴るのを聞くのはつまらなかった。
