Thank you for a wonderful gift. You took me back 60 years to when I lived in Manchester , England. My mates and I used the winter to strip down our Triumph and BSA twins. Cleaning and tuning our machines. Much the same way and using a bit more profane language. I love your attitude and thoroughness in rebuilding whatever you rebuild. I am binge watching your videos and having a smashing time.
    Cheers.
    Alan

Hi Alan. Thanks for watching! I know what you mean about the language, I was tempted on more than one occasion. I have lived in Manchester / Salford / Gtr Manchester for the last 40 years, still a few old Brit bikes knocking around. Glad you are enjoying the videos.

A brass float needle is too heavy and the carb might work but won't work as it was designed to operate. Aluminium needles will lift on their own due to the weight of the column of fuel above and then the carb will work as it should with the rising float closing the needle rather than the sinking float raising it. It makes about 6mm difference on the fuel height. With the Aluminium needles the carb works as it was originally designed to work.

I don't know if the same applies to the A65, but I've never needed to use the choke on the 930s on my Triumph T140V, just the ticklers on a cold start. After about 25 years, I decided to remove the choke mechanisms completely and blank off the cable holes. It makes it much tidier around the carb area without the extra cables and lever (I kept all the parts in case a future owner wants to restore it to original). From what I've seen, you probably want to keep yours to original spec anyway.

hi Rick,a few people have told me that their biker will start without choke but my Firebird needs both to get going

very helpful - thanks! There seems to be disagreement over whether or not to use float bowl gasket sealant. What are your thoughts?

I personally do not use any but I suppose a thin wipe with something like Gasgacinch would probably be ok. Thanks for watching!
