i cant wait for the rest of this season, the intro was incredible and has some crazy situations that will be coming, im interested in everything related to Neo for the future episodes, even though it wasnt a lot more drawn out i think that Blake tackling Yang was insanely cute, next week cant come soon enough!
Pros & cons i had with the 1st chapter Con: Weiss acting like she & the others are the only ones who fell & not the bunch of people cinder blew off the platforms & walks Pro: I know the name of the purple racoon that stole yang's arm when the flip book of the intro gets to the town of game pieces, Stands, & toys in the back there's a stand with the name 'Jinxy' with purple on it so yeah a heads-up 12:13 this will sound crazy to anyone who's a Fan of Disney/Disney XD series Slugterra when I first saw the Jabberwalker it's body shape/Structure were similar to the designs of the Shadow clan
The thing I noticed was that none of the girls used their semblance, weirdly enough. Ruby didn't use it to try to get through the forest faster (before encountering Little). Weiss didn't make a Glyph for Blake to stand on, to reach for Gambol Shroud, she was hanging from a tree instead. Blake didn't make a clone that would help her dodge the vines. Yang is already super strong, she didn't use her semblance to deck the Jabberwalker in the face with the rock. Also she decked an unknown monster in the face with a rock 🤣, She's wearing a battle gauntlet and thought ... what to use? I know!!! Rock!! 🤣. I wonder if some of our hypothesis are correct, that dust nor semblances work at the level they're at within this new world. As for the red queen, I wonder if Neo is going to take that role, just something I think from seeing the intro number.
@Melvin Dekkers There seems to be an established Red Queen character with her minions in tow from the intro, but there is one character we didn't see Neo was sitting at the end of a (seemingly) long table holding a cup of tea. She's likely going to be this worlds Mad Hatter instead. Even wearing Torchwick's hat adds to the new identity.
What I found funny about this is that they have found out that magic exists, there are 2 immortal beings locked in centuries long conflict, and there are relics with talking spirits but talking animals is somehow unbelievable
V1 Ruby: "weapons are like meeting new people, only better." Alyx is either Neo(messing with the girls), Literally crescent rose(somehow), or just Alyx, a new character. Okay that's my tinfoil hat theory for this week.
I think the trap the mice set up was meant for Blake. Right before they found Gamble Shroud Blake heard something and we saw a vine sway behind her. That could be hinting that the mice were following them for a while and Gamble Shroud likely fell near them and put together that Blake was looking for it. How they manipulated the vines though I'm still not sure.
Also even if it wasn't meant for Blake specifically, "curiosity killed the cat." And the mice specifically call out how they dislike cats and snakes. Could have been a trap for ANY cat, Blake just happened to be the victim.
I think in this Volume Ruby will get a lot of focus and I think it’ll be focused on her going through the 5 stages of grief Denial I think has already either happened or is in effect after learning Penny is dead from Wiess explaining what happened after she fell, Anger will most likely happen when she meets back up with Jaune and learns the way Penny died, Bargaining will happen when the lady offers her to shed Ruby Rose like a coat, Depression I’m not quite sure yet but I think it’ll be connected to Neo in some way, and Acceptance will be the finale when Ruby and the rest of her team are finally able to leave the Ever After
Ruby don’t fall into darkness. Rise and overcome it. Accept all the pain and then let them out cry as much as you need and don’t ever stop until you let it out.
Even with everything going on, it still couldve been drawn out. Like, even when they simply encounter their first trial, then meet up maybe 2 and 2. It still would’ve felt even better, more emotional and quick. There are ways to make things quick without being rushed.
I’ve been binge rewatching Rwby, and something I’m wondering is how a few characters will work in their current situation. Ruby doesn’t have Crescent Rose with her, she took a few lessons on close combat but always had her weapon or silver eyes, to fall back on. Weiss is running low on dust, she still can use it as a sword but, her main focused tool. Yang has lost her arm, we saw the pain and trauma she was in season 4, then she adjusted to the arm that was given to her but we never saw how she adapted to only using one arm.
You made one small mistake :) (At least, that's how I interpreted that scene, I can be wrong) "You forgot who raised us" - That's not what she said. She said "You must have forgotten who raised me" Ruby meant, that mostly Yang raised her, especially when Tai was depressed. She didn't mean Summer Rose, she hardly remembers her (she was like 5 or younger when Summer disappeared.)
I've seen a number people complaining about two things so far, A) teams gets back together to fast and B) shorter run time. thing is this season was being made during the WB and discovery merger so they most likely had big plans but had to cut down and get to the heart of the story leading to the lower run time and needing to get the team back together faster. Honestly with all the drama behind the scenes I'm just glade we got more Rwby because WB discovery had making cuts and deleting stuff everywhere mostly in animation, so the best thing we can do as fans is support it as best we can and enjoy what we can get because who knows what tomorrow brings
Honestly I'm not sure what to Expect of this Volume. One of the things that I'm predicting and hoping I'm wrong is that time flows differently between this world and remnant. As the fairy tale in the world of RWBY called "the girl that fell through the world." Even when the girl returned to her world it was not the same. There's no telling what's going on. Also ruby falling Is unconscious after hearing penny's death was not what I expected but it's a response. I mean imagine you put So much effort into saving your friend who was dying and thought you finally succeeded onlyto find out that she died anyway.
Paused at 4:00 to note that there are a pair of legs under the image of Blake in the corner, and if the image was thinner, the legs would be perfectly situated under Blake's own.
Here's something to consider, Weiss tries to be witty in season 2 also, in paint the town, she tries to be cocky sometimes. I guess mimicking Yang to get cool character title.
now that our 4 girls are back together as one there is only just Jaune we haven't seen yet. I feel that when we see him he meet either Neo or Panny corpse.
And note, Little is voiced by Luci Christian. Best vocal range that she uses. I do love the comedic moments of RWBY. Hilarious to see funny moments amidst a serious story. I also love how concept art is used for the end credits.
Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised for episode 1. It set up everything nicely and I really loved the opening sequence. It was probably my favorite RWBY opening sequence I've seen for awhile. As a huge WOnderland enjoyer, I can't wait to see what unfolds this volume.
I’m glad it’s finally starting again, though this episode was mostly laying groundwork, so not excited for this episode in particular but definitely for future episodes.
Great setup episode for the rest of Volume 9, it gave us the RWBY reunion earlier than expected while still raising questions of how the EverAfter works. Cool to see how the weather reacted to how our characters were feeling. Can't wait to see how it all pans out.
Not sure if anyone has noticed this, but Blake saying their in a fairy tail directly counters what she said in V1 (“the real world isn’t the same as a fairy tail” or something along those lines)
Counterpoint: she’s the one who reads all the books. To be fair, since then, the fact that magic exists has been made known to her. Anything is on the table after that revelation
To take a line from Gigguk and his "Re:Zero in 8 Minutes" video... This volume can preliminarily be summed up as "Ruby Has Literally The Worst Time Ever: The Anime".
I don't really know how to feel about team RWBY being able to find each other so fast. Unless there's a reason why they reunited so quickly, it feels way too convenient to me.
Agree, that’s my only problem with the episode. I was expecting them to find each other at least episode 2. Hopefully there is a reason why bc they have more creative freedom this volume
Nice video, mate! With what has been shown in the opening, I'm beginning to doubt whether Jaune will really be the "knave of hearts" in this story. At this point I'm almost certain that he will have the role of the "anonymous hero" who will fight the Jabberwalker.
Maybe he'll actually accept the deal from the unknown person who says that Ruby can "Leave Ruby Rose behind, shed like an old coat". So maybe he just abandonned his consciousness
How much do you want to bet that ozpin hid the beacon relic in a fairytale, its definitely something he would do given his nature and that he was the only one to know about both these fairytales and had the relics. Probably the sword Jaun uses is the relic, and probably leads straight to vacuo somehow.
Personally, the way little was explaining it and the mice's reaction reminded me more of the foaming mouth guy from kyoshi's Island in Suki's village from ATLA.
I just realized.... Ruby's earlier little track through the jungle represents her current mentality. She keeps trying to get somewhere, but always winds up right back to where she started.
Also I am surprised Ruby and Yang didn't hug I mean their sisters and Yang sort of "Died" in Ruby's eyes by protecting her from Nero's attack...so her wanting to hug Yang to make sure this is real make sense.. .I know that's probably I would have done. Also Ruby just laying there was it just me but she looked like a dead body or corpse on the ground. 😅
Little said that it's normal for the raccoon to come by so they were probably trying to see what they'd catch but saw it as a victory when a "cat" was caught. They're probably enemies of the Cheshire Cat.
I think that in this world everyone doing what they called. That's explains why Little asking what's Ruby name mean and also explain why Little don't complain about his name. If he is Little that's mean's he isn't matter as a prey.
Damn RWBY going for the speedrun record for exposition once again. Literally the first episode we get the reveal of one of the new foes (Yay even more bad guys just what rwby needed) and even revealing the whole Fairy Tale setting through just flat out telling the viewer as if they are to stupid to put 2 and 2 together. Its not even trying to be subtle anymore.
Did anyone else hear the red parrot meme faraway in the distance of the spacial loop scene? I had to roll it back and make sure I wasn't hearing things, that had me in hysterics! 🤣
If purpose is a key theme here, I think that there's a quote perfect for this: "[There is] no denying purpose. Because as we both know, without purpose, we would not exist. It is purpose that created us. Purpose that connects us. Purpose that pulls us. That guides us. That drives us. It is purpose that defines us. Purpose that binds us." -Agent Smith (and clones), The Matrix Reloaded
15:30 I felt the same way. When I heard RWBY say that I thought it was a little out of place considering they didn’t find her voluntarily, they each fell during the battle.
The mice probably smelt Blake's scent on Gambol Shroud. The Jabberwalker's way of speaking and overall behavior makes me think it's a "machine" following a simple preprogrammed decision tree.
Maybe they get assigned their purpose by the king hence Little waiting for a name and asking if that's a purpose. It'd explain why the soldiers don't mind signing over their autonomy for a gift for the king.
15:25 Actually, gonna disagree on that. We know for a fact that when Tai basically shut down after Summer's death(?), that Yang was essentially forced to grow up, and she practically raised Ruby herself. So I'm 100% certain Ruby is referring to Yang.
Ok here are my thoughts: 1) I'm surprised how quickly team RWBY reunited (in comparison to when they did so in volume 5) in this episode. 2) I too am wondering how the mice knew how to set up the trap. Can they communicate with the plants? 3) Weiss's random shifting of emotions from brushing off Blake to making jokes is a little out of place here. 4) The Jabberwalker - I'm getting the feeling this creature is unnatural to this world. Like it was created crudely for a purpose. I'm also getting a machine like vibe from it due to the way it says out loud what it is doing. 5) Overall, it was an ok episode to start the new volume. I did notice that for the credits, they used a track from volume 7(can't remember which one though).
It's possible they looked up in time to see Blake fallout of the sky and saw a should be similar colored item following it. (Blake is suppose to be BLACK even though she's mostly in white now a days)
16:15 - Okay, show of hands, who was expecting to finally see Blake & Yang kiss? I honestly was, but seriously, they tease us every time, but I don't care, I love me some Bumbleby! #couplegoals

Pro: I know the name of the purple racoon that stole yang's arm when the flip book of the intro gets to the town of game pieces, Stands, & toys in the back there's a stand with the name 'Jinxy' with purple on it so yeah a heads-up
12:13 this will sound crazy to anyone who's a Fan of Disney/Disney XD series Slugterra when I first saw the Jabberwalker it's body shape/Structure were similar to the designs of the Shadow clan
@Melvin Dekkers
There seems to be an established Red Queen character with her minions in tow from the intro, but there is one character we didn't see
Neo was sitting at the end of a (seemingly) long table holding a cup of tea.
V1 Ruby: "weapons are like meeting new people, only better."
Alyx is either Neo(messing with the girls), Literally crescent rose(somehow), or just Alyx, a new character.
Ruby pushed down all of her emotions for 8 volumes, because "she is the leader and she has to be fine" She can't do this forever.
Excatly, i think the one who fall into despair will be jaune. Ruby can overcome it while jaune fail.
@@kevinimation5508- No they both need help one person’s despair shouldn’t outweigh each other because they are hurting.
You made one small mistake :) (At least, that's how I interpreted that scene, I can be wrong)
"You forgot who raised us" - That's not what she said.
YES !! I've been waiting your review, this journey sure will be tough huh...
THAT OPENING WAS LIT 🔥 ❤
I am hopefully optimistic for this volume also if Neo dies I will be pissed
I’m glad it’s finally starting again, though this episode was mostly laying groundwork, so not excited for this episode in particular but definitely for future episodes.
Great setup episode for the rest of Volume 9, it gave us the RWBY reunion earlier than expected while still raising questions of how the EverAfter works. Cool to see how the weather reacted to how our characters were feeling. Can't wait to see how it all pans out.
What's that? 9 episodes left? Big tree in the middle?
9 REALMS OF NORSE MYTHOLOGY?!
The Jabberwalker reminds me a little of Anubis, the Egyptian god of death, who is also humanoid except for his dog's head.
To take a line from Gigguk and his "Re:Zero in 8 Minutes" video... This volume can preliminarily be summed up as "Ruby Has Literally The Worst Time Ever: The Anime".
She's not trying to take BLAKE'S mind off of it, she's trying to take her OWN mind off of it by lying to herself about how she's feeling.
My girl! My girl Ruby! Her being asked what her purpose is, oh gosh that’s gonna be a theme
I'm starting to think Jaune really *is* the knight surrounded by flames
How much do you want to bet that ozpin hid the beacon relic in a fairytale, its definitely something he would do given his nature and that he was the only one to know about both these fairytales and had the relics.
Probably the sword Jaun uses is the relic, and probably leads straight to vacuo somehow.
Personally, the way little was explaining it and the mice's reaction reminded me more of the foaming mouth guy from kyoshi's Island in Suki's village from ATLA.
It's good having RWBY return! The wait was worth it!
I just realized.... Ruby's earlier little track through the jungle represents her current mentality. She keeps trying to get somewhere, but always winds up right back to where she started.
"We aren't the hunted anymore, We ARE the HUNTERS".... yeah they smelled cat on Gamble-shroud....
Good comparison with the Return of the Jedi thing!
This is going to be an interesting volume can't wait to see what next
Little said that it's normal for the raccoon to come by so they were probably trying to see what they'd catch but saw it as a victory when a "cat" was caught. They're probably enemies of the Cheshire Cat.
Welcome back Night!!!! ❤❤
I also made the connnection with Return of the Jedi. I even called how the mice captured Weiss and Blake "Ewok style"
I’m pretty sure when we see Salem in the trailer for volume 9 it’s the jabberwocker impersonating her
Did anyone else hear the red parrot meme faraway in the distance of the spacial loop scene? I had to roll it back and make sure I wasn't hearing things, that had me in hysterics! 🤣
Small gripe: Ruby wanting to get up on the ledge and not using her semblance to do so.
Maybe the mice smelled cat on Gambel Shroud and suspected a cat would come looking for it.
The vines! theyre in the new episode too!
Could the Jabberwalker have been after the Raccoon that took Yang's arm?
I love it and the opening is my favorite but my favorite opening is volume 8 opening because it's creepy and dark
Now it’s time to help the girl who gives it her to help others.
If purpose is a key theme here, I think that there's a quote perfect for this:
"[There is] no denying purpose. Because as we both know, without purpose, we would not exist.
It is purpose that created us.
Purpose that connects us.
Purpose that pulls us.
That guides us.
That drives us.
It is purpose that defines us.
Purpose that binds us."
-Agent Smith (and clones), The Matrix Reloaded
Love your reviews and theories Phoenix night. Keep up the good work.
Gosh it looks like you never aged, feels like 2018 again
14:02 Three against one? I'd say Ruby's headbutt equates to at least 0.14
Heavyy .. yeah with a lot of introspections
I kind of thought that the cheese potato with a cheese carrot at first
I don’t know why but I love the way you say Little lol
'Like the lemur from Hell-' Okay I had to pause to laugh at that one!
I would like see more RWBY in more places
Maybe they get assigned their purpose by the king hence Little waiting for a name and asking if that's a purpose. It'd explain why the soldiers don't mind signing over their autonomy for a gift for the king.
15:25
Actually, gonna disagree on that. We know for a fact that when Tai basically shut down after Summer's death(?), that Yang was essentially forced to grow up, and she practically raised Ruby herself.
So I'm 100% certain Ruby is referring to Yang.
Well if we look back at the story telling when they were kids Tai looked like he was doing okay.
Honestly I thought your Star Wars comparison is really good, and I enjoyed it.
The Jobberwalker is the best of the new character.
Was waiting on you !
I'm sure the mice smelled 'cat' on her weapon can made the trap because they don't trust 'cats'.
Maaaaaaaan when Weiss told everyone what happened and penny´s death I knew they weren't messing around
"Like the lemur from hell" I'm DED🤣
video idea: who are the people around neo in the opening? she seems to have created a gang
Ok here are my thoughts:
1) I'm surprised how quickly team RWBY reunited (in comparison to when they did so in volume 5) in this episode.
Finally, so good to be back watching these :)
15:54 If there was ever a perfect moment for an exchange of saliva, that was it; but Rooster Teeth missed it.
It's possible they looked up in time to see Blake fallout of the sky and saw a should be similar colored item following it. (Blake is suppose to be BLACK even though she's mostly in white now a days)
Wait im confused i thought the first episode was “a place of particular concern”
where u guys are whatching V9? the site i used is not updating anymore
Crunchyroll
Kickassanime is the site I use.
16:15 - Okay, show of hands, who was expecting to finally see Blake & Yang kiss? I honestly was, but seriously, they tease us every time, but I don't care, I love me some Bumbleby! #couplegoals
Been a long wait but we finally here
Ruby is so sweet she gives me ice cream headaches.
I wonder if the place that they are at is half based on Alice in wonderland and half based on the land of the sweets from the nutcracker
Nobody knows Jaune fell or what other people of Atlas/Mantle fell so this is really going to be a surprise for them.
