My wonderful mum was a land girl during WW2. She loved it. I still have her uniform including her shoes with the mud still on them.
Lol
She must have some good stories about it
@@totallycrazystudios1801 there's nothing "lol" about that
@@m3lodr4matic I was saying lol about mud still being on the shoes. I didn't mean to be offensive.
that is amazing! i would love to see some pictures
I loved how these girls were so tough and had strong friendships with each other! Your mom has all my respect!
I honestly need these outfits in my life. They look so comfy and very warm
Same💛
And they have pockets!
Anonymous Gay sup 😂
@@Fish_plz I'm Pan lol😂

This is the first time I have ever heard of the Women's Land Army. Thank you for the fascinating video.
You should watch the show Land Girls (drama on Netflix) and War Time Farm (documentary on youYube) for more info about the land army. Both are great!
Same
Same to me and it is also interesting to know what their job is about.
The usa had a women's land army as early as WW1. Britain probably had them during WW1 also.
You should also try Home Fires...or maybe Fries
I wish those pants would make a comeback!!
Simi Parthenopaeus i wish stockings did ;)
They do look very comfy.
Simi Parthenopaeus I see a Dark Hunter fan! 😃😃
Simi Parthenopaeus I think they’re still in. Vintage is making a comeback seems like
So you have to wait for other people to wear stuff before you can follow? How do you think trends get started? One person wears what they like confidently and arent basic trend followers they start the trends
These videos are SO incredibly good! The only thing I'm missing is to see actual historical photographs for illustration/comparison. That would be a nice touch. Otherwise, this is currently my favorite YT series.
I wish I could post one of my Mum's photos of her as a Land Girl. I think the uniforms showed on here are very accurate.
The uniforms were very carefully researched and recreated. For example, I drafted patterns for the breeches and dungarees from original pairs in my local costume museum. I also used some pieces inherited from my aunt who was a Land Girl.
Google image search brings up several actual historical WLA photographs.
so charming
Yea I would love to see side by side photos. The best part of this channel is that the outfits are accurately researched 😍
I cannot explain to you how comfortable this all looks. I need those cord breeches in my life.
If you were poor, they could be scratchy lmao
huh? Quite “itchy” indeed! However after much wearing & numerous washings these fabrics season well and lose a fair bit of their scratchiness. Raw silk is the worst!
I think wool is only itchy to those allergic to it, it's not itchy to me...?
I need a pattern for them asap
@@Br0wnEyedQueen Wool back then was more itchy than nowadays i reckon.
The other side of ww2 we weren't taught in school. Thank you for this video, it was very educational and I enjoyed watching.
Unfortunately, teacher's don't have enough time to teach all that we should learn about WWII and other time periods.
@Hillary Sanderson No, they are given the set curriculum and teach from it. Teachers don't just make up whatever they want to teach, there are rules. They can't just teach whatever they want, when they want.
Yeah this is interesting, but cmon the fighting is way more interesting
@@silverfruit14 Tell that to those who did the fighting, or to the families who never saw their family members again.
RIP Uncle Edward. d 1943
This is great to see. My maternal grandmother was a Land Girl. Through her work in the Women's Land Army, she got into nursing for the actual Army. Then after the War ended she became a paediatric nurse
I kind of love that many men (but not all) looked down on women for so long (some still may) and when the men were needed on the war front, the women took over all their responsibilities. They proved that they could keep a country running while the soldiers were keeping a country from being destroyed.
and got no thanks when the men returned they just got fired and sent packing
Mason Humphrey sorry, I really didn’t mean it to come across like that. I corrected it.
topherh33 how so?
Just in case you needed a history lesson the women's land army was established to replace the men who had to be released for service .I don't think in any way women's roles during ww2 were looked down upon. Women played a vital role in SOE both in occupied Europe and in South East Asia . They also flew and delivered figters to RAF bases took over roles from the navy and army .Technically you might argue because Britain was in the front line from air and sea attacks I'm sure that their positions within the Air force and navy put them in harms way.
From the way your comment comes across, I get a hint of misplaced smugness. I prefer to think that the men appreciated and respected the women working and supporting the war effort, that they had love and a longing for the women back home who were their mothers, sisters, daughters and friends, that they weren't poisoned by some narrative that pitted men and women against each other, that they had the feeling they were all on the same team, with a common purpose, working toward the same goals.
What a brilliant little video. I knew a Land Girl quite well, her name "Mickey" Mitchell. Strong, independent and characterful, yet humble, she was an inspiration, as was her story. In my eyes a hero along with all the men who fought, every bit of her. They worked so very hard to help sustain our country.
Cheers to the Women's Land Army, forever!
the red headed woman is like the British version of Rosie the Riveter
Hannah O Yes
all i know is she`s gorgeous
@The King, And she didn't get shot at by the Luftwaffe while she worked..
I remember seeing girls like that. They never talked to me, but that's alright
It's a joke right?
@@keynekayla2879 It's a Captain America parody account
Cheer up, there’s always Agent Carter
I'm crying
@@pygmygiant I wish.
"and deep side pockets"
me: give me those pants
I'm curious about the girl fastening her belt in the front. When I wear side fastening pants I wear my belt with the buckle on the side so I don't have to take half the belt out of the loops to use the restroom. I wonder which way the land girls would have worn it.
I haven’t seen any pictures of the belt used in the way you describe and it was part of the uniform for it to be seen buckled centre front, but the women did not always stick to the uniform guidelines!
Probably because the rules were probably written by men, Whitney's thinking is sound enough. Silly little thing you wouldnt think of unless you lived it. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve got a pair of similar pants. You usually only unbutton the top buttons or maybe the top and second, which you can do with out taking the belt out of the loops.
they would almost certainly have had the buckle at the front.
you can't hip carry with a buckle in the way. it would also get in the way of the draw of a rack, hoe, brush ect. but if you are belly carrying a large front centre buckle can be used a third hand to transfer load to the belt.
I have also never seen a photo of a land girl with a buckle to the side and i have never seen any examples of working clothing from any time setting that shows buckles being used in an offset position.
the first example I can think of for the side buckle is one of the actors in 'the monkeys'. a TV series from the USA in the 60s and that was a conscious fashion decision on the part of the shows costume department.
I think this is more likely a 21 century thing to be done
These clothes need to make a come back, they look so comfy. Huge respects to the land girls of the past
Was popular when I was a teenager back in late 70's to have heavy courdoroy and pull over sweaters.... and chunky shoes.
Corduroy is popular again, chunky boots are certainly having a moment and sweaters are never out of style. Also vintage clothing is always fashionable
Incredibly done,as always! You captured some really beautiful details here.
On a more sombre note, I am terribly sorry to hear of your loss. My thoughts are with you.
Ok, this is the first time I've heard of Women's Land Army and this was cool!
What a beautiful, moving document. Thanks again.
"the best time of their lives" that's such a nice ending. so sweet
Could you please do a video on women getting dressed in the 1950s? Showing bullet bras, girdles and homemade clothes. Thank you!
We didn't wear clothes like that in the 50s.bullet bras . Haha
Bullet Bra's??...are they the super pointy ones?
So many girls came from the towns and had no idea of country life..and how hard it was. We couldn’t have managed without them. Also, the girls who took over running narrow boats on the canals. Hard, hard work.
This is the Queen's era! I know she was in an actual army unit, not WLA, but its amazing to think about all these distinguished elderly women working hard for their country in their youth.
To all that have served and is serving now, I thank you for your contributions.
This reminds me of my grandmother when she told me her stories during world war 2. The day to day struggle under the Japanese Imperial army was one of the eye-opening stories.
Thank you for coming up with these sorts of videos. It's a good learning tool.
Lest we forget.
thnak you lernt so much my grate grate nanna was a land girl she had a pet pig then. down dorset area. im still trying to trace here.
Laura- Beth Dawson Aw! I wonder if that was quite unusual to keep a pet pig then whilst food was so heavily controlled. That sounds like it might’ve been a rather nice life. My grandma was sent up to Scotland when she joined up. Apparently the uniform wasn’t nearly good enough to keep her warm during the winters and she reported often coming back to the farmhouse with chilblains and being rather jealous of the girls who were sent down south for their service.
This is so fascinating! I feel so inspired by this. I want to write a novel about the land girls some day. I absolutely love these videos!
It’s so nice you dedicated this to Sharon, she lived opposite my mum. She was such a beautiful soul. Her and mum are in heaven now eating chips from the chippy together and laughing ❤
You can't tell me that some of them didn't fall in love with each other.
Mason Humphrey odd flex but ok
hell, i fell in love with them while watching this video. if none of them fell in love with each other, I'd be shocked.
@@notallergictopineapple8324 flex89 is my boi
Charlotte L Agreed.
ArseBandit Oh honey, trust me, there were plenty of men having sex with each other during the war. You can easily find content online about the lgbt community during ww2.
Where do u get all your outfits, do u make them or something? I'm also really intrigued by ww2 to that was really helpful and by the way, the videos amazing- like always
Most of them are made by Pauline Loven, who produces, researches and scripts our films.
Thanks! Tell her she's really good
Very informative...always a great history lesson watching films like these. Thank you!
My grandmother on dads side served in the land army.
She even got strafed by a German fighter once... she hid behind the mudguard and wheel on the far side to where the fighter was coming from. Fortunately it only used the machine guns, not the cannon and she was unhurt.
She was a country girl, and had some funny stories about city girls learning how things worked in the country.
Lovely video, as per usual! There’s something so beautiful about women in those uniforms. I remember seeing a lady wearing it in an episode of Horrible Histories when I was a young girl and being absolutely in love! Thank you.
I just discovered these videos, they are amazing! It would be really cool to see one of these done for the Women's Army Corps, the Women's Air Service Pilots, or the women who worked in factories during the war.
Such an admirable group of women. Truly everyone had to report to some form of duty.
These videos are perfect. It's great to see such straight forward no nonsense videos. You cover all the facts, the clothes are accurate, the actresses are beautiful and it feels like there's a lot of research and production value on offer. You don't often see this on RUclips so I just wanted to say well done :)
I love all of your videos so much!! They’re so well put together and the narrator has a beautiful voice. Keep up the amazing work guys!!
Back in a more _self sufficient,_ day, where we knew what was right, and stepped up to make a positive difference in our communities.
R.I.P. Sharon Ayres. May your memories never dim.
Does Dillon- I was just thinking , as i watched the world war video and this one, how nice it is to see how many people volunteered their time, upturned their lives even, to do their part and contribute to their country's effort. I find it difficult to imagine that anything close to that level of commitment could be seen today, in similar circumstances. I'm afraid everyone would be only concerned about themselves.
Odee Dillon- my apologies, auto correct.
That's because we let libertine fuckboys who scream "taxation is theft" and wanna marry 12 y/o girls get their way.
This is the first I've heard of the "Women's Land Army". Thank you sooooo much for the work you do.
I'm serious when I say this CrowsEyeProductions , this is some of the best content I have ever seen on youtube. The lighting, the colors, the actresses, the music and the narrator really make you draw into these stories that you produce.
My favorite era in terms of fashion and culture: the 1940s, 30s, 50s. Thank you for featuring apparel from the mid 20th century!
Give me this pullover goddamn ❤️ love these dressing series and this whole channel in general much love from Germany
Malena Sander I saw the pullover and was like I want 10
Hallo! I speak a little German!
A wonderful video, you some did great work~ And I am truly sorry for your friend. May they rest in piece.
Thank you x
Such a wonderful, beautifully and lovingly made document. The colours and the light are so warm.
Well done! I'll watch it again and again! Thank you so much
I'm from Minneapolis, so I perked up immediately when I heard ""bright, yellow Minneapolis mow line" like hey that's my city. I knew the Midwest supplied a lot of goods for the war, but it never clicked for me that manufacturing from Minnesota went to the UK during the war
This made me cry... What beautiful and brave girls.
4:06 that’s thoughtful of him though how sweet.
Men and Women, learn to sew, I did and I am never without a desired fashion, a needed alteration or a invented attire for work, play or social events. Of course I do buy and have a good wardrobe but having sewing skills, I can make anything from a kerchiefs and pillow cases to car covers, furniture upholstery and even embroidered ribbons for my granddaughters. I gave my daughter in law Singer Stylus for one Christmas, and her 3 daughters each have sewing machines. Sewing is not for everyone, but it starts with a single stitch, lovely takes it from there. RUclips is a wonderful tutor and people are generous teachers here.
I love these videos so much! This is an amazing and detailed series! I would love to see more of the WW2 era clothes. One of my favorite.
Thank you so much for putting this out there!
I'm loving these videos. You all are doing an amazing job!
My grandmother and her mother drove ambulances in the WLA, during WW2. Such strong women, working so very hard for their nation while the boys where fighting on the other side of the North Sea...
Wow this is so good! I love watching these videos. It's where I get my historical education because we're not studying history in social studies right now.
I must share, such hard diligent work. It is so wonderful to watch these videos over and over. It is difficult to have a favorite; I love them all.
Thank you for sharing your talents!
TV series land girls made more sense to me now after watching this. Thanks!
I want a movie ..... I want it now😂 this woyld be such a great setting for a story!!
You could just telllllll they put hours of hard work for this video awesome love the Chanel❤️❤️☺️☺️😌
This is so cool, they're all so pretty but also strong and independent. Very impressed by them!! Love these videos
I love those green sweaters!
I'm new to your channel and now I'm obsessed with it. Please keep making awesome videos! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yeah same
I've never heard of the Women's Land Army before, this was a very educational video!
Do you think you might do something on male fashion the late 1880s or early 1900s next? There's many resources on women's fashion, but not as much on men's. I always enjoy your research and filmography, they really help to bring historical eras to life.
Brave women . Thanks for your service
What a heroic group of ladies!
Beautiful ending, very heartwarming
Finally practical one since old times
My Grandma was a Land Girl, too. Escaped the blitz in Bethnal Green, met my grandpa and they settled and built a farm together. Her best fried, Joan, stayed and married the neighbouring farmer's son. I'm moving to Bethnal Green soon, my thoughts are turning to Grandma and the thousands of women who did their bit. God bless them all.
It’s so wild to watch these videos. You really get a sense of what daily life was like for these women. I can imagine them gossiping and doing each others hair or mending stockings in the dormitories. I would imagine the work was pretty hard but I bet they kept good company!
not only this video is educational but it's also so satisfying to watch and listen to!
Great video. Shows what women do and have done since the beginning of time. Thank you.
I am sorry for the loss of your beloved Sharon.
My first job at 15 was on a farm , there were two land army girls, two German prisoners, all solid workers. The farmers boots were never laced up and none of his family did any work involving physical effort, we were all poorly paid serfs. I am now 85 and still remember how badly we were treated. You never see a farmer on a bicycle do you?
Can we appreciate how they always have perfect models for the content.🖤
LOVE this approach!
I can understand how it might be the best times of their lives, because my favorite jobs have always been those I could take pride in. I like knowing I do a job very well and that people appreciate my efforts. The jobs I could not take pride in left me depressed and then I would quit, mostly factory work where my job depended on others, so quality wasn't certain no matter how hard I worked. Perhaps if those factory jobs had felt necessary, I might have survived the stress. However, since they were not even beneficial (by which I mean, they were junk products at inflated prices, even at discount for employees), I still have nightmares of the shoddy environments and products. Feeling that you contribute good things to the world is the best feeling EVER!
I just recently found this channel. This is awesome! I love the calmness of each video.
This is AWESOME . Thank you for posting.
I am sorry for your loss. Sharon must have been a wonderful lady. I love your story btw
Does anyone know where I could find some patterns for these clothes? I would love to try and make the pants or the sweater.
I made the breeches and dungarees from patterns I drew from original WLA uniforms in a local museum, I am not aware of any commercially available patterns for them. I made the shirts and blouses from vintage patterns. The socks and jumpers were knitted for me, and Jasmine was wearing underwear she made herself from a 1940s pattern.
Pauline Loven Your work is A.MAZ.ING! If you know which vintage patterns were used for any bit of clothing or underwear used in this film, I would love to know what they are. Thank you so much to the entire team for making these films!
My grandmother was a landgirl she often used to tell me about the war.
my grandmother was a land girl, and it was thought very scandalous from both families when she ended up marrying my grandfather who was the farmers son on the farm she worked on,
Beautifully filmed. Throughly enjoyed.
This is a really great video and all, but I really can’t get over how she said 6-monthly at 2:31
I’ve never heard of “The girls land army”. Thank you for this new information. Beautiful

I wish we still had that
Today's style inspiration: found.
this is it. this is my aestetic. i need to get some of these
Here I am, thinking, "I'm not really interested in this..." and loving yet another Crow's Eye video.
This is so amazing!!!
My mother was in the Land Army she was based in the Hereford/ Worcester area in England.
Omg I want that outfit, why can’t there be a modern comeback because it’s hard enough to find mint condition vintage...it’s so amazing!
ow God thank you so much for this channel. this is pure bliss
I adore these videos.
Love a good corduroy. The side button trousers look fab!
That is wonderful information. Thank you.
In the US, there was a female division in ww2(WAC). They were nearly disbanded because there were multiple occurrences of women sleeping with other women within the unit. However, when FDR attempted to disband it, his own wife wouldn't allow it as she was having an affair with a journalist (Lorena Hickok). Eventually this was found out and lower administration was already dismissing any lesbians and gays that could be found, by using a "gag test". So it didn't last for long, but it was a huge step towards acceptance. Further, the term "gay" was first observed here to mean homosexual, as the girls and sometimes the men would signal that they'd be "sharing a bed" so to speak by saying "we're going to have a gay time tonight"
