One of only a couple of mainline steam locos that I would consider buying a ticket to ride behind, despite the aircon carriages and other impediments to enjoyment. Thanks for posting the video.
Hiya, Excellent footage of this now well known loco', I bet there were a lot of very happy people around that day, yourself included, being in the right place at the right time. That is one engine I wouldn't mind having a model of...🙂. Well done for catching and sharing with us. 👍👏😀
Has the notorious priming issue of this handsome loco been addressed, or are crews shown footage of 1st October 1994 (was it really 30 years ago? Strewth I'm OLD!) .... and trained appropriately.
@@staffordian do you have a link to that article ? The loco was tracking also known in railway terms as oscillation or hunting. It is possible this was a symptom not the cause but another few miles on track will tell. rough riding is usually down to bogie or suspension issues.
To say it's fictitious as it never had the livery in BR days it does look great in express blue though and would be great to see SNG and Blue Peter on a double header with bloody custard coaching stock.
@@iancook2036 Debateable, but I take your point, what about SNG & BP in BR green livery, that would be something to behold, just my opinion, also I was never around in years SNG carried blue livery, certainly not in British Railways days. In 1950, the locomotive was painted Express Passenger Blue in this livery with black and white lining.
@@davidmccall2897 I also wasn't around the time of SNG in 1950 but it carried the livery for 2 years in BR days before being painted Brunswick green. As for BP only 2 liveries Apple green and Brunswick green . I do agree though both in Brunswick green but I think the SNG group voted on what colour it stays in. Maybe in many years to come it will go back into its final BR colour.
@@iancook2036Bloody custard eh? That's a first for me. Carmine & cream or blood and custard .... whatever, when clean a rake looks marvellous behind a loco in BR express passenger blue (or green, or the always underrated lined black - all when clean of course!)
Best looking loco on the mainline right now. Excellently captured, sir.
Seconded!
Incredible locomotive.
Blue Peter looking beautiful there in the sunshine.
I consider myself a diesel girl but there's no denying she's a magnificent locomotive.
Yeah. The best looking mainline loco right now.
Beautiful!
For God's sake even Britain doesn't see locomotive genders
Well done for getting this lovely video blue Peter was showing off some excellent performance there bye for now Philip

Made sense what happened at Derby now, tender first !!
Looks absolutely fabulous 👌
I see myself 😂😂. Fantastic to see this loco out and about. Incredible machine
Really nice shot of the engine leaving the station at the end, a different angle!
At least blue Peter is running well
Now hopefully no more braking down for another attempt of mainline running like the last time
Excellent catch 👍
Was there too . Brilliant !!!
Wonderful video, thoroughly enjoyed it. And at last I know where the air pump has been put; very neat job.
Awesome Mate Was a Great Day at Deby Today Was Good Speaking to u 👍
Superb loco...
Awesome 😮my friends 😊 Fantatic Greeting 🙋🏻♂️ from Argentina 🇦🇷
Greetings also! 👍
I think we were stood side by side when you filmed this apart from it’s departure where I appeared on camera stood on platform 4.
Hopefully you enjoyed the day as much as I did - Some great traction on show 👌👍
Can't believe the Grand Central Voyager still has a red roof !!!
Ran tender first from Toton to Derby, quite unusual on the mainline.
Really Good Capture There 👍

Is that a Westinghouse pump just ahead of the left hand cylinder.
Looks like it to me. Not much space between the frames on anything barring 2 outside cyl locos with Walschaerts or Caprotti valve gear.🙂
What's Grand Central doing at Derby?
Good capture , anyone have any gen about 71000 ?? that loco' must be complete by now as it was in light steam at Tysley back in June
What was the Grand Central voyager working ?
Found it. 5M61 Crofton to Central Rivers.
Yep - That’s the one 👍
Returning home after the unspecified work at Toton?
Wheel turning? I read there was an issue with the tyre profile which had caused rough riding.
