Last year on IG, or the year before, I posted a blurb about projects-in-a-box. The premise is that you ‘put’ (can be a virtual placement) 10 projects in a box. Each week, you spend 1 week working on only one project from the box (can be a cast on or fix or finish). At the end on the week, either swap projects from the box, or if finished, add a new project to the box.

My husband is always getting on my case about how many WIPs I have and my hydra curse of always starting at least 2 new projects as soon as I finish one 😂 it’s so nice to see i’m not alone in the bags and baskets full of WIPs hanging around! Also, you made me realize why I’ve lost all my stitch markers…

I love the spirit of, just let knitting make you happy! I have a couple of WIPs that I feel really obligated to work on right now, but am really not feeling the techniques used. So in the last week I've made a Ranunculus and two hats instead, and the other two will get worked on when they call to me again! There is a lot of beauty and comfort in being able to knit the exact stitches/fabric that feels just right at the time.

You could also get some barber cords to put live stitches on hold. They are silicone cords that make it easier to pick up stitches after you’ve put them on hold.

There are so many different ways of knitting socks. What I means is one or two at a time, toe up, cuff down, dpn's, the short needles like you are loving, etc, etc....I started out knitting socks and just couldn't get into them AT ALL. And now I know that cuff down DPN's are the exact opposite of how my head works. I like 2/time toe up on magic loop...and I'm in heaven. Also all of your projects would completely stress me out....but I'm so loving you sharing all of them with us. BEAUTIFUL!

I've found the only way I can get close to finishing my wips when I have a lot is to force myself to wait a week or two before casting on something new (depending on what's going on in my life) and only work on my wips. Doesn't matter what order or how much is already done on the wips, I just need to work on them because at least I am a little bit further to completing them before starting something new.
Another great episode. I love seeing all of your projects.

So fun to see where you're at with all your projects. I once had a bottom-up colorwork sweater that I put aside because the deep corrugated ribbing was flipping up and I wasn't sure how I'd remedy that. Well that little timeout stretched to 8 years, and I finally took it out, lopped off the hem, found an online tutorial on how to avoid the flip, and reknit the ribbing top down. That's my "So close I can almost taste it" project, and I bet all yours will be done before 8 years go by:) Love your channel!

Hi Toshi, I have really enjoyed your conversational delivery style, irreverent, slightly sarcastic, sometimes self depreciating, but most of all open to the possibilities. You are fearless, not afraid to dive into complex knitting projects and you make everything seem possible. So there is a lot to be apprecated on your vlodcast as well to learn from! I really hope you do finish your older wips soon before they become outdated and your brain doesn't want to work anymore on them. Your garments in process are visually stunning before you even finish them! Your honesty is to be admired and I hope to be amazed by your finished wips! Thank you for your witty vlodcast, I am tremendously enjoying it and find myself really looking forward to each new episode!! Best, Carrie

Have you tried using two circular needles instead of magic loop? It is so much easier and you don't get stretched stitches/laddering up the sides. You knit the first half of stitches on the same circular and the second half on the other one, the only drawback if you're not careful is forgetting to change needles and end up continuing in the round with all stitches back on the same circular. Having different coloured cables for each circular helps prevent this - there's lots of youtube demos. Love your podcasts!!🥰

Made a coffee, sat down, saw a Stitches and Starlight vid and clicked so fast, I think my mouse got whiplash. What a great way to start the day!
I love the numbering system you are using to "sort" the WIPs. I am fighting cast-on-itis right now simply because I know that having too many on the go gives me anxiety. So I try to stick to one of each catagory (sock, shawl, hat, clothing and home), but I am kitting up the next projects as soon as I hit the 50% mark so they are ready to go. It gives me that push to knit on a particular project even more :)
Thanks for being so open and (I don't know how to put this, words are failing) inviting? a ray of sunshine? enjoyable to watch? Meh, all of them :)

Hi! If you haven’t frogged you Felix: Definitely block it and a raglan doesn’t have to be on gage. As long as you like the neckline, just knit until your yoke lenght is good (a bit under your armpits), split for body and sleeves. You can always stitch that little short row hole close, lopi is fuzzy enough that it should not show. The light gage of the Felix will make a more pilly pullover but if you are using lett lopi I think after 2 depilling sessions it should be better.

Honestly I was just going to suggest doing the sleeves first (on the metamorphic) so you can get back into the swing of it and that final task of redoing the bind off won't feel as much of a hurdle, and then you said you were considering doing exactly that. But here's my 2 cents, do the sleeves first to get some positive feels back into this sweater!

I was running out of ChiaoGoo cords and end stoppers due to languishing WIPs, too.
One solution to the lack of end stoppers was to use safety pin (usually coil-less) or bulb/gourd shaped pins in the connector hole. But that still kept my ChiaoGoo cords hostage to my WIPs.
A better option for me was to use tubular stitch holder cords. I bought one set of the the brand called Barber Cords, which work great, but they are too pricey for the number of cords I would like to have on hand for WIPS in Time Out as well as active WIPs. The tube cords also work very well for holding stitches when trying on unfinished top- down sweaters , hats, socks, etc.
I found a much cheaper option than buying multiple tins of Barber Cords. My inexpensive “dupe” has freed up nearly all the ChiaoGoo interchangeable cords languishing in active WIPs and comatose WIPs.
In the kids’ section of bead or craft stores, look for Pony bead tube lacing (I’ve always found it on a bead aisle where packages of Pony beads or bead lacing materials hang on hooks). I think Pony Bead tube lacing is identical or nearly identical to the regular Barber Cord material (I haven’t yet found any larger diameter Pony bead lacing that could duplicate the larger diameter Barber cords for the larger size needle tips) .
IME the Pony bead tube lacing performs exactly the same as the tin of 3 Barber Cords I ordered online for more than $15 plus shipping. Additionally, the Barber Cords reek of a plastic chemical smell when the tin is opened, but it dissipates somewhat when the cords are in use in a WIP. Maybe because Pony bead tube lacing is packaged with just a card stock type hanging label and is not sold in enclosed in an air tight container, it does not have a noxious chemical odor.
For $3-5, a package of Pony bead tube lacing will be packaged with 1-4 colors and about 60 feet of total length. Just cut it to the desired length with scissors. The lengths cut for stitch holders can be coiled and stored in small tins. While little tins with or without windows can be purchased in big box craft stores (look in the container, wedding/party, or candy making supply aisles), Look around for repurposed mint/candy containers such as Trader Joe’s tin of dark chocolate wedges, which is perfect for the DIY cords and other small knitting notions - look for the little chocolate tins with the mints in the checkout area).
FYI I also find the tube cords are generally quicker to attach to the needle point tip and thread through stitches than scrap yarn/string & a yarn needle, except maybe stitches knit at a fairly tight gauge, such as fingering/sock or lace weight yarn knit at 26-30+ stitches per 4”/10 cm. The tube lacing material also has a just a touch of grip that keeps it from accidentally sliding out of stitches while not making it difficult to thread through stitches.

Your WiP pile is so good! I can't wait to see those sweaters complete! I have castonitis so bad right now, BUT I do feel guilty with all my WiPs, so I'm trying to finish two of those before I cast on anything new. I've already completed my Shawlography and I've decided to stop with a HUGE blanket knit halfway through the pattern, so once I sew the backing on that, I can cast on something new. In the meantime, I'm going to finish a couple of smaller things and keep working on eliminating my WiP pile.

I guess 1990😅 I'd frog if My yarn was post Woolworth college days 👌& take a pic to recall it one day ❤ You know I admit I don't like magic loop for socks either! 9" was so like holding nothing , maybe the 10" is the answer .

I was admiring your dress form. I really need to get one but they all seem to be too petite. I am an XL. Or does it matter?

    • @stitchesandstarlight

Mine is a standard size because plus size dress forms are significantly more expensive. I just use mine for sweaters and not for actual designing of making so it didn’t matter to me.

7:40 "Colour dominance" is just a myth. It's basically just bad tension. Knitting should be all flat with all the sitches even. That's how fair isle etc was all done traditionally. This colour dominant madness is just a modern American thing that folk have been plastering about the internet and it's horrific. It's not that complicated!
Stitches should all be even. That way that is achieved is by not holding one colour in each hand but by holding the colours the normal way. That way the colour retains it's eveness across the entire piece. Otherwise it's just bad tension.
