In the past he had been Impostor several times in a row, which is why the was questioning the odds, he just wanted to be crewmate while Wilbur just wanted to be Impostor. This may be why Wilbur didn't kill Techno, as I am pretty sure up until that point he hadn't got Crewmate the entire stream and why Techno didn't vote Wilbur at first. It could have been that both of them understood that the other had the same situation as themself, just a little different.
Honestly the first time I saw this it was an animatic where Techno and Wilbur were both getting frustrated as Techno didn't want to be Impostor again and Wilbur didn't want to keep getting Crewmate. And it shows like, several rounds where Techno is Impostor. Though it was awhile ago so I can't remember the details completely.
