One of the big tips that really no one talks about that should probably be common knowledge but isn't, is that the more parallel you keep your shoulders with the board, the cleaner the kickflip is going to be. Also resist the temptation to put your foot too far behind the bolts or you'll over flip or just plain rocket flip every time. Hope this helps anyone still struggling.
Then parallel shoulders is huge. I was turning front side and flick way outwards and more down. Landing lots of them but looked goofy/mob as fuck. Still trying to break that muscle memory. The parallel shoulders is really helping me get outta that bad habit
parham morsaly i got em much better last session. Flicking out n away was taking a toll on my hip flexor. Keep shoulders over the board it changes your perspective too like. I was lookin way forward which was turning me frontside. Now my flick is straight out. That foot really almost just hooks through the nose. And a proper flick will suck that board up to your back foot for a nice catch. I think a lot of RUclips tutorials can be misleading when they show that foot drag motion stationary. Atleast for me it made me wanna kick out n away n then have to bring me leg back over the board instead of having it floating directly over the board the entire motion. Film yourself in slow mo. For me seeing myself do it wrong was big in helping my brain correct it and break that muscle memory.
Dennis, these kickflips are magnificent! there are two types of kickflips executed here: one where he flips the board very close to his front foot, catching the board pratically with both feet at the same time; and the second one where he, after the flip, extends the front foot and catches the board with the back foot. Needless to say both incredible to watch.
@@srdjankuz damn dude, I just got a notification I opened it and saw this, then watched the video. Wanted to say thank you! my comment was 9years ago and seeing again brought up a lot of good memories for me, cheers 🍻
some things i learned while practicing: make sure the pop makes little effect on the board's horizontal movement picturing what it will look like in ur head also helps, kinda mimic ur own thoughts. pick up back foot, but i think the first one is most important
I never considered it when you see the grip tape, I don't think that has anything to do with it. I'm pretty sure it has purely to do with timing, which takes trial and error. Eventually a kickflip just becomes another trick..but deff timing.
Thank you so much it only took me a week but I practiced everyday and I did my first one today and I did a total of about 20 today thank you so much :)
It makes such a big difference when looking at tutorial vids when the person in the vid is actually really good! His kickflips look really cool! nice air and catches them well! Sucks when you watch a tutorial and the person can barely even land the tricks! haha!
this guy ACTUALLY taught me how to kickflip! it felt to awkward with the front foot, but it works to well! lots of control over it, well done! good tutorial
I have had kickflips for years lol and I like to think they are pretty good but I watch this at least once a month lol just because I want to eventually get them like this holy shit they are perfect!!
thumbs up if you have clean kickflips but have no idea how to steez them out anywhere near how dennis durant does. seriously, my kickflip is waaaay diferent
even if it's a basic trick it gave me more problem than a 360 flip, have a good flip (nice pop, clean and a good flick) is really hard. lot of skaters in my park could land a kickflip but lot of them mostly land a mob flip!!! so ..if you have to learn ''how to kickflip'',spend lot and lot of time to have a good flick, i know it's boring as hell but you will be rewarded.
try with your flipping foot toes in line with the bottom right bolts of the front truck- maybe try landing afew with your opposing foot to the one you usually land it with- looking at your front foot when you do the trick helps sometimes
@Chance Pugh I had that same problem all you have to do is focus more on jumping and keeping your feet near the board you may not want to pop very hard when first learning
I think you're right - you take your foot all the way. Look up "kickflip slow motion 1000 fps" and you will see. By the way, congrats for starting skateboarding, man! I'm 20 and just did the same. Just learned to ollie earlier today, willing to learn kickflip as well
the one tip he gave about moving your foot to the front of the board was the biggest change because i was always kicking it forward, so i started flicking the nose corner instead of the side
because that .25 inches on your board effects where you normally put your front foot to tre. i had an 8.5 and i had the same trouble. because they didnt have 8's at the shop....so you just have to ajust, it's usually you have to flick a little harder or move your foot a little more off the board. i've been doing tre's for about 5 years, it's my favorite trick. try those 2 tips
i ve just lernt them today i got ta good tip to learn them hold on to a railing and then try nail them holding on then pretend your holding on do it should feel different after a while then get them mate!
make sure you are orientating yourself so that you are facing the side of your board rather than straight ahead and you must commit to the trick which is easier said than done cuz its sketchy at first but becomes natural as you keep doing it like any trick.
Idk if I'm the only one that see's this and this helped me when I watched this video but Dennis isn't really flicking his foot. He's more like nudging/shoving his foot forward and out. Flicking didn't come natural for me till I did a million times the way he does it. Also find your position and angle with your front foot. If your foot is more vertical with the board it is more prone to flicking but better chance for loss of control. I keep mine more perpendicular and right under the bolts :)
make sure your body is sort of centered over the board and your feet aren't too far from the center, also make sure your not jump away from the board or kicking it in mid-air
Dennis! I have a questions. Sometimes it seems like you do them extra steezy, kind of like Neen type steeze, then other times you don't. Which way is better?
I have a question about the intro. I can see it is done in after effects but i wonder how dod you achiev thet black and white artwork to look like it is a drawing?
i want to skate i wakeboard snowboard and flowboard profesionaly but i have one slight problem.......... i ride a skateboard regular and everything else goofy i can land tre flips while not moving in goofy stance but i can not ride in goofy
If you keep landing with one food on the board, it might be because you are leaning too far foward towards the nose. What leaning towards the nose does, it makes it so that when you pop, you end up popping the board behind you cause your flicking foot to land in front of the board. If your back foot is landing on the back bolts and your front foot is landing off to the side, you just need to man up and bring your feet back together after flicking.
So its summer and at the age of 23 I thought of starting to skate. I almost have an ollie (when standing still that is, think I'm putting my body pressure too much backwards when I do it rolling) but the kick flip, do you take your right foot all the way to the end of the board and kind of scratch it to the right and "back"? I'm not exactly sure how to do it :O
Depends, sometimes it hurts me when I ride a lot like going from my house to a skatepark if I rest for a couple minutes it stops but it hurts more when doing tricks ;whatever that's normal for me ,in the next day I'm so excited to skate that I don't feel it so much anymore
you have to learn how to ollie first and get more air with the board then kick outwards not down. Dragging the side of your foot helps too instead of using the bottom to kick with
Just warm up a little bit, by skating around. Stretch your ankles so they get a little bit more flexible and "loose". Always have you knees bended when you do a trick.
Remember , don't kick it too hard bro :D just flick it nice and easy . you'll get used it really soon . Kick straight out will make it harder for you to land . the flicking will make your foot always come above your board , and then you just have to stomp it :D keep going bro , if you still have problem , tell me , i'll make an explaination video for you sometime

His kickflips stay so close to his feet, beautiful early and level catch, among the best I've ever seen, seriously.
Where can I buy those kickflips?
Bradley John hi welcome to practice what can I get you
Money can buy kickflip
You got the most beautiful kickflip! Seriously
Sickest kickflips known to man

"Aim for around here." (Camera doesn't show) Nice.
I know right I totally noticed that right away even before I saw this comment xD
I put my foot here *holds board away from camera* and aim for around here *cut away*
My left ear enjoy it, but my right is jelly
Dennis is one of the most elegant yet powerful skaters you'll ever see skate in person its truly something to witness
Like if you can kickflip!
Fuck no😢
I love his kickflips , every once in a while I come here to watch them :)

I know how to kickflip, have been for 3 years, come back just to see his flip. damn!
ahhaha same , this video marked my childhood

pick up back foot, but i think the first one is most important

I don't always do tricks, but when I do I learn from the RIDE channel, stay skating my friends.
I never considered it when you see the grip tape, I don't think that has anything to do with it. I'm pretty sure it has purely to do with timing, which takes trial and error. Eventually a kickflip just becomes another trick..but deff timing.
Well, to his point, you definitely wanna make sure your grip is up before you land. Kinda helps the whole rolling away process.
Thank you so much it only took me a week but I practiced everyday and I did my first one today and I did a total of about 20 today thank you so much :)
"It'll probably be the first trick you learn"
"First you gotta have your Ollie's down" lol
He did say "first flip trick".
***** ye he did
dennis is so good, i'll never be able to kickflip like him. very underrated skater.

when you can pop shuvit and get them pretty well and frontside 180 might also help with the control of the board.
the way he catches the board is beautiful

you have to learn how to ollie first and get more air with the board then kick outwards not down. Dragging the side of your foot helps too instead of using the bottom to kick with
Just warm up a little bit, by skating around. Stretch your ankles so they get a little bit more flexible and "loose". Always have you knees bended when you do a trick.
this helped a lot, thank you.
dude, your kickflips are so beautiful :D
nice solid kickflips. Thanks
Remember , don't kick it too hard bro :D just flick it nice and easy . you'll get used it really soon . Kick straight out will make it harder for you to land . the flicking will make your foot always come above your board , and then you just have to stomp it :D keep going bro , if you still have problem , tell me , i'll make an explaination video for you sometime
remember this order: balance, parallel shoulders, knees bent, pop, slide foot, no fear, commit to that bruhh & You got it homie
