Incredible! I've been obsessed with Welles recently, and this was a perfect encapsulation of him and his films. His unfinished projects fascinate me the most
The selected pieces included in this piece stand out for me, so much material sampled and some of the very best parts I ever found, all here in 35 minutes.
This biological documentary is among the very best any RUclips channel has produced. In fact, i would argue that you couldn't find anything on TV that could compete with this work. Bravo!
This video is ridiculously good, the pacing is just immaculate, really really deserves more views. I’ve always been a fan of Welles but haven’t watched any of his stuff in a few years and this definitely rekindled my interest.
Amazed by each new project you undertake. Welles is one of my favourite individuals and I’m so happy to see you cover him. I’d love to suggest new ideas and topics for you to cover but I can’t risk tainting your creativity. Keep up the excellent work friend!
@@thisisastory I’d love to, and thanks a lot. I’d love to see you cover someone like Eartha Kitt, singer and activist, or Hergé, creator of Tintin. Hearing their stories with your narrative prowess would be one for the ages !
I loved this so much. What an impossibly amiable and eloquent interviewee. You definitely inspired me to go on an Orson binge... thanks for putting it all together so thoughtfully.
Brother, your editing skills are top notch. Just phenomenal work. I'm only a minute into the video so far, but I'm already blown away. I'm inspired each time I watch one of your videos. I don't know how this video isn't blowing up yet, but I'm sure that it will. Welles, for whatever flaws he may have had, is still one of my favorite filmmakers. Citizen Kane, Magnificent Ambersons, The Stranger, Touch of Evil, The Trial... yes, Citizen Kane is one of the greatest of all time, but there's more to find in that filmography if people haven't went looking.
Thank you so much, man, that means a lot to me. I definitely agree, and I think F for Fake is overlooked for not only how it influenced the documentary genre but also how it has influenced modern editing
Thank you for this video! Orson Wells really was the opposite of arrogant. Watching the Dick Cavett interviews, you can see what a genuine person he truly was. Such an interesting and likeable man. I thought Tom Snyder wasn't the best interviewer in general. I believe Orson shone during other interviews with smarter people, i.e., Cavett. I just love Mr. Wells & appreciate his work & his personality.
@thisisastory BRAVO! I am just 20 minutes in but you are hitting all the highlights of all the hours and hours there are of Orson, this is a masterfully edited/composed piece which shares so many incredible stories I picked up in my inquiries into Mr Welles. Excellent job, thank you very much for doing what I had once wished I could do, assemble all the right pieces of Orson so that others could fall in love with this genius whom popular culture has forgotten. Orson influenced so many who also became masters themselves, thank you for doing justice to the man. Really well done. ❤
@@thisisastory on another note, since you KNOW Orson and you’re familiar with his archival interviews, im looking for one when he was asked by I believe Dick Cavett why he wears black, and he said “it’s for the Forgotten.” Can you recall this quote and if so direct me to where I can find it once more. It made an impression on me and i want to find it again.
Amazing video. So many voice over journalism is exponentially inferior to your story telling with contextual edits. Its so hard to make the subject start speaking instead of just talking about the subject and for 34 mins? Thats insane dedication towards this, great work and great video.
The Ambersons fiasco to my mind is 1 of the greatest tragedies of cinema...😔 congratulations on this wee documentary I'm sure OW would've been impressed...🎞🎥👍
I could be wrong but the reason Randolph Hurst thought citizen Kane was about him ,I think is Kane says something like I'll provide the pictures ,you provide the war,a quote supposed to have been uttered by Hurst.
it'd be awesome if somebody could re-mix this audio. it's a great little documentary but man... the music is SO loud that you can barely hear the dialogue in parts. I think just a simple sidechain and some compression would go a long ways.
Oh, really? May I ask which parts? Everything seemed fine when I was editing and mixing with my headphones, but audio mixing is not my forte, and I would like to increase the quality of my videos, so any advice helps.
How can it be, that still, one of the most gifted artists in movie history is, alltogether, so underrated to this day. Yes, everybody knows Citizen Kane, but who really knows Orson Wells? A man, to which maybe just Kubrick can be compared. But no-one else!

Brilliant documentry on orson. Been a fan of his for years. So anything new is a great treat. Well edited and cut together.

spellbinding - this video deserves far more recognition than that it’s received
Thank you!
this is amazing
Simply brilliant documentary. Wow!
Thank you for watching!
Really well put together.
Thank you!
Magnificent Ambersons is one of my favorites. I need to explore more of his catalog.
Magistral editing. Thanks!
What a remarkable man, he was. Just imagine the other masterpieces he would’ve made had he been given the chance.

Thanks for this. Curious whether the pictures/ clips during Macbeth in Harlem segment were of the actual cast?
Sorry for the late response, but yes! They are
That's incredible! Time to rewatch!
Great job

"AAAH, MRS BUCKLEY!"
I love where the word gay theatre instead of Gate Theatre came out!I am Irish by the way!
What's with the bad AI thumbnail? That isn't Orson Welles' nose. It'd have to come out of his fake nose kit!
Lol it's not AI at all, I'm sorry to inform you, though it is upscaled
