one thing ive picked up in response to the ponziani is not pawn to d5 for black but pawn to f5 because if they take (which many lower players do) you can kick the knight and suddenly black has the huge pawn center

What an amazing video, thank you so much for posting this! I've only recently started playing and am currently at 720. I've played this opening against 1000 bots and explored a bunch of lines. It's fun and pretty powerful. I'm in the middle of my first online game and it's going well. One line you didn't really cover, and I haven't found much treatment of it by anyone else is ... 4. d4, Nxe4; 5. d5, Na5. I guess that's because there's no way for black to save the knight at that point? I pushed b4 which traps the knight. If Nc4 then Bxc4, if Nb3 then probably Qxb3, and of course going back to Nc6 is losing in the original position. Just thought I'd throw this out there in case anyone else is looking at this move.
i love you
Levy, I love how passionate you are about the game. I appreciate your videos and your passion for the work makes it all the more exciting and interesting for me to learn how to get better!

2:53 - If E5, Nc6, D6 you still place 3 pawns into center. If Nf6 look for trap w/ H3 & wait for them to take E4 pawn. Then push D5 (if a Knight is still on C6 & it moves opening your Queen to check the King & fork the Ne4)

Thanks Levy you got me back into chess. You help a ton
I was really hoping that this was ponziani, but definitely didn't think you were actually gonna loool this opening is so fun
I quite like the Ponziani. Nice to see it getting some attention. I’ve played it in 8 serious games, even ones that I was pushing for a win. Which, okay, that seems maybe slightly odd because the computer says that black can easily equalize.
But I think that even with that, it’s not so easy to prove that black has anything, especially, in my opinion, if they play d5 and f6. Very often, you can just keep their king stuck in the center. I’ve had that happen multiple times in games online and OTB. Actually, the best game I ever played had that happen. I was white in the Ponziani against an IM, so I was lower rated than him at the time. I restricted his kingside development so much that he couldn’t castle kingside, and he had thrust almost all of his queenside pawns forward. They were overextended and castling queenside would have been a nightmare. I was threatening to bust open the center with his king still in it, so he had to play Kf7 and Kg8, completely blocking in his rook. In the chaos that ensued, I sacrificed a knight (couldn’t be taken), a rook (couldn’t be taken), then my queen (which could’ve been taken but wasn’t), then I forced my rook down his throat to deflect his off the d-file, and then I found an absolutely brutal queen sacrifice that led to a mate in 9 in which I would have sacrificed both knights. So I would have had a rook and a bishop left in the end position. Definitely the most complicated position I ever had. I’m just glad I navigated through all the chaos well.
I’m going to actually include a line here that you didn’t mention. You went over the 3. …d5 lines. But with 3. …Nf6, black has an absolutely disgusting move that can get white into a lot of trouble. And, it’s completely engine backed.
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. c3 Nf6 4. d4 Nxe4 5. d5, and here, black can actually just play 5. …Bc5. Am absolutely insane move. The continuation should go 6. dxc6 Bxf2+ 7. Ke2 Bb6 8. Qd5 Nf2 9. Rg1 O-O 10. cxb7 Bxb7 11. Qxb7 Qf6 12. Qd5…. You read all of that right. Black sacrifices not one, but two pieces to attack your king. And the computer says that this position is completely equal, meaning that black has proven that he has compensation for the two pieces. If you can stave off the attack, though, you will be completely winning. But it’s very difficult for both sides, because there are many situations where you have to find only moves. Very few people would actually find Bc5, but just tread lightly. The Ponziani can be a treacherous position for both sides. But, hey, if players like Ljubojevic ventured to play it against Karpov, it can’t be that bad.
this guy right here
Nice

It's called the vukovic gambit I've played against it once but my opponent didn't know what to do lol and he resigned
Watched the first two minutes, immediately got in a blitz game, got a winning position in like 7 moves, blundered mate in one but they didn’t see it, premoved ladder mate with 1 second on the clock. 10/10

Levy is one of the only people I know who can play almost an entire chess game and then reverse it and go "but that didn't happen" and just go back to normal
Go away Yeaman
I'll be honest I've only been trying the ponziani since this video came out. But I am finding a good amount of success with it at the 500 level. I'm certainly not fantastic but I have felt very weak playing as white because I only knew the King's pawn opening which can get very symmetrical. The Caro-Kann helped me a lot with the black pieces but I felt lost as white. Since I've been practicing the ponziani I went from 500 to 600 in about 4 days.
Try Halloween gambit as white
I dont actually understand how you can be lost with white. Wayward queeen attack or Italian game with fried liver or jerome gambit are wery resonable even at 900 level
thank you i used this opening and got a checkmate with it in 14 moves, very good video
I've been playing the Ponziani for about 1 year now, and I can confirm it's absolutely fantastic. I'm 1600 rapid now and it still works very well. Apart from the traps that people still fall into, you get a good position with center control.
How often do you play it? Do you change it up much if you get bored?
@@TheGavranatar So yeah... it's a pretty boring opening after a certain level because you always end up in similar positions and it's not very sharp. Many draws. Until the 1850-1950 level though I found it very effective.
Thank you Levy. I was stuck at 3k for a while and then your video came out. It helped me to finally get to the 3500 rating and play as equals with stockfish.
