  • Manifesting is a common practise promoted within the self-help industry. It's the act of mentally visualising one's wishes in order to make them come true.
Do the principles of manifestation align with Islam? Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan shares his thoughts during a Q&A session from the Quran Week program in Stuttgart, Germany.

Have you heard about manifesting? What are your thoughts on this?

I used to try manifesting. Now I think it's extremely dangerous to say i will be this, have that, I create my own reality etc. We are only humans. Yes we should be positive and believe that anything is possible but if only Allah wills. It's not us create things and we don't have any right or ability to make Allah to do something Allah doesn't want. Now instead, I prefer simply making duas.

I hate it when people laugh at other people’s questions. It is so rude and discouraging.

Meditation is the act of imagining your goals becoming a reality. As humans we do that all the time without knowing it. A criminal might think before hand how to break into a home and steal. This act is called I psychology premeditation. Surprisingly we find Meditation is all through the Quran. Actually describing Jannah in detail is an act of meditation. It helps make your goal clear in your mind so you achieve it almost automatically if the picture is preserved in the brain

Manifesting is another word for wishing, another word to request something, another word to pray for something, but at the end the same mechanism in another word. It exist and works, but that’s just the part that we control and it doesn’t exclude the outcome that Allah decide for us

When you believe your life sucks and you instead tell your self my life is awesome it actually creates gratitude, which then manifests better days, allows you to see the opportunities around you and put in the WORK and over time create a better life. It is manipulating your mind to believe you can do something you now think is impossible, like being a successful RUclipsr for example. Then that gets you to work towards it because all of a sudden you think it IS possible, I CAN do it. You make dua to ask Allah to really make it happen if it's good for you and to remove the desire all together if it's not. But you cannot try something if you think it's impossible

I personally think that if people can manifest and get their wish become true it's only because Allah gave us power to do so. He's the only one to answer our prayers so if it works that's because HE decided that it will. For me it's just logic. So it's not haram

Two years ago when I was at my lowest I got myself in this rabbit hole of 'manifesting your dreams' on youtube. I wasn't able to manifest anything because deep down I knew this was all absurd. that just by believing that the thing you want is there in your life when you know that Allah is the one who deals with all of that and me fooling myself with "I have it, I want it, I have it" "I have my glow up, I am tall now I'm living my life" when I'm not tall did not have a glow up then it all is Allah's will. if he wants he can make me the giraffe of the family something I badly wanted because I'm the shortest sibling. So yeah making duas and knowing that maybe Allah knows this ain't good for me worked for me.

Manifesting: a sub-section of Toxic Positivity that should be addressed by scholars - another variation is, think positive and pray Tahajjud - it will get answered soon or the same day - this has to stop, it trivializes people's problems, traumas and aazmaaish

That’s why it’s important to listen to Muslim affirmations that surround Allah. Helps us change our mindset to think more positively about our ourselves and our creator.

Let me tell my example once in life i had been crazy abt something and i used to pray tahhajjud uswd to weep a lot and simultanously using law of attraction through my dua but here is thing i did not get wat i had prayed for but far better than which i even had not expected so Lesson dominance of allah over every thing.

I was waiting for this answer. I had already reflected on it and the answer is the same as my reflections. I'm happy you're discussing these modern topics. I would've liked for Ustad Nouman to elaborate more on how we can make our du'as as powerful as manifesting claims to be. We often are so dissociated from the way the old people used to connect with Allah and we find it difficult to have sincerity in our du'as. I don't want my Iman to be void of spirituality.

Why would someone even sit and invest time in imagining what all you want & cutting visionboards if we as practicing Muslims know - what is meant to come will come. No matter what. Everything is already written for us. We should not get too attached in dunya goals like „I will earn 10k“, „I will have a big car“ that is dunya mind with dunya wishes. May Allah ﷻ guide us and keep us on the straight path
