- We do things a little bit differently over here. On social media you follow people. On Reddit, you follow your interests. If you’re new to Reddit, here’s an ELI5 (that means “explain like I’m 5”) primer on getting started. In this video, you’ll learn the basics of communities, voting, commenting, privacy, and karma.

@@Inspirator_AG112 nah
That is with any front page of any social media, since that attracts controversial topics. Interest-based communities are a good place find the civility of social media.
imho the best thing of Reddit is discovering stuff as you go without help
Any example? Features or communities?
@@BS-bd4xo the culture
Minus wide-audience controversial topics, all social media can be a goldmine. Discord, Reddit, and RUclips comments are exceptionally good at isolating objective, analytical, or hobbyist topics from controversy, with Discord servers, sub-Reddits, and RUclips channels respectively.
I love reddit, I hope they keep the anonymity

On reddit we ban people for having different political opinions
Please update your database and let us change our usernames, I registered my name without knowing that platform is anonym, now I can't change it!
Use a different account, it's been that way forever and probably won't change
You forgot the bans and cosplay girls for upvotes
I think they misspoke- what they MEANT to say is "Peer pressure and mod bias determine morality"
Accurate
@@Inspirator_AG112 You're right. But unfortunately there's proof that about 6 mods have significant power in about 118 of the most powerful subreddits. Niche subreddits may be safer, but sadly the dominant culture is that of control by an arrogant few
@@Inspirator_AG112 When people complain about a social media site, the idea isn't to ignore the bad because "there are good parts too". The fact is that there is severe censorship in the most popular parts of the site which manipulates the opinions of millions of users. Saying that there are a few small corners where one can escape to talk about unrelated topics is a completely unrelated and moot point
Howcome the subcultures bit is twice as loud as the rest?

wtf when did reddit make mobile ads
This ad is good
This video is correct for all of Reddit minus subs without specific-subject audiences that hit R/all or R/popular. Trending controversial topics make all social media look bad.

I joined Reddit and other social media recently for the multitude of interest-based communities.
THEESE ADS ARE AMAZING

Yes
i plan to start 1st Reddit account soon, any tips for a new guy ? i heard it's looked down upon to promote yourself/other social sites...is this true ?
Expect to get banned if you say anything about people eating pets or just people from China or the Chinese government
Reddit's extremely passive aggressive, negative and the hivemind mentality is prevalent.
Make sure you stick to subs of things you LIKE.
Stay away from 95.5-99.9% of subreddits. Thank me later.
*DON'T*
@@stinkywanker7591 ?????????? Where tf did saying anything about people eating pets come from, that's just sort of racist
_Dear all commenters..._
*Reddit's toxicity/civility depends on the sub-Reddit...*
*In the same way RUclips's toxicity/civility depends on the channel...*
*Or in the same way Discord's toxicity/civility depends on the server.*
*For any school subject, career, hobby, software, franchise, video game, or TV show, there are multiple sub-Reddits named after it, including a sub-Reddit identically named after it.*
Take my awar- oh.
Btw you are right
@@Just-aGuy :
I recently joined Reddit, as well as a multitude of mainstream platforms for the existence of online instructors and the S.T.E.M community. I tend to reject stereotypes, as they cause a bias. RUclips's front page (easily observed with incognito) also has similar content to Reddit's front page. Sub-Reddits and RUclips channels have a strong resemblance. The issue is not Reddit or any social media; it is controversial topics, I have seen it with News Break comments (🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️).
Reasons for joining Reddit:
• Sorting communities by topic makes Reddit resemble the old-school forums in interest subs, so the old-school forums are not necessarily dying, but being reincarnated as a Reddit space, as well as a Discord space.
• Reddit is often a discussion goldmine in for interest-based or practical topics in their corresponding sub-Reddits.
• Even AskReddit, a default sub is relatively informative if a practical question is asked.
• Moderators of interest subs often moderate in good faith too, despite the stereotype (a fall-out effect of notorious 'powermods'). I will also mention that the reason they get strict with removal of posts is (very likely) not because they are on a power-trip, but to protect their sub from low-effort posts or karma-farming; they can be elitist though.
@@Inspirator_AG112 i use reddit for almost 3 years. Also, i said that i agree with you
@@Just-aGuy : Even if those subs expand, the target userbase of interest-based (as well good/strict moderation; consistent across these subs) subs strongly limits quality declination or the 'eternal September' effect.
Interest-based/niche subs are relatively good even if they are 6-figure, 7-figure, or 8-figure, like Askscience, IWantToLearn, and ELI5, the more niche Learnmath and Chemhelp, and the main math, physics, machine learning, and chemistry subs. The main Minecraft and Transformers subs are other examples of subs that are civil.
I've had interesting conversations in youtube comments. On reddit, it's either get ignored or get pummeled with downvotes. It's highly unpleasant.
I actually loved this video. Evem as the advertisement.
Reddit is a horrible website. Your comments are always shown, you can't do anything with karma, and when she said you get upvoted for doing the right thing, I got so mad. You do realize that you're only upvoted if you agree with someone, right? You aren't in a respectful community. You're in a community where people will doenvote you for not agreeing. Don't get your information off of reddit. A lot of the shit they provide is probably fake.
That is the community's problem, reddit is better at keeping anonymity than MOST of the platforms. Well, I wouldn't trust Tencent very much, they are a shareholder but I doubt they can do anything with the data i f they collect it.
even IF*
was banned from worldnews for being a 'shill.' I find it funny, because the shills/bots/Wumao are what got me banned. I think Reddit is more pro China than people realize.
@@richhandler2621 What? I see no problem here. That is just MLM'ing, and Reddit HATES MLM. And that is normal, infact, China might even like MLM'ing because it helps their economy, so what you said are completely wrong. And yes, I used 'are' because it is 'they', because it is more than one debate.

Reddit is so honest with the "fake internet points" that even its users think their points reflects their reality like money.
*Optimistic hot take...*
I recently joined Reddit...
...However, I only joined for sub-Reddits based around productive topics. Reddit is excellent in productive topic subs. There will always be a sub for a S.T.E.M subject or occupation. There will always be a sub for one's favorite video game, TV show, franchise, or hobby. These subs far out number the counter-productive mainstream subs, and they are far more civil and/or insightful.
I also, however recognize, that this could go for any social media, so I have done the same with multiple other mainstream platforms. Curation to one's passions will strongly reduce the toxicity of social media.
