Goldfish surgery of damaged popped eye by fish veterinarian Dr Loh

- In this video we show you a surgical procedure used to treat a goldfish with a damaged, bulging popped eye, unfortunately for this fish the only cure was to remove the damaged popped eye with surgery, though with one eye removed this goldfish was treated and is expected to make a full recovery and is already happily swimming back in his pond.

Poor Fred... all he knows is he was swimming, felt weird, passed out, then woke up with 1 eye.

Not everyone can throw around money like that on a small creature like a fish. If you do, then power to you. Plus, not many vets are probably able to perform surgery on small fish, so even if you have the money, you'd probably have to search all over creation for a specialized vet like him. Unless it was a rare and valuable species of fish, no one would have time for that. You would just be better off putting the poor creature out of its misery and buying a new fish for less than ten dollars at any Petco or PetSmart.

+old bread It depends on how you define pain. They can certainly feel discomfort. Knowing how fish react to negative stimuli, they can certainly feel sharp jabs of pain, but possibly not long term pain.
For example, a fish will pull away if it bites on a hook, but will not react if that hook is in its mouth for a few minutes unless it is pulled on.
AKArainkit They lack the nerve capacity to feel what we define as pain. Their reactions to it is simply an instinctual instruction.

Fish actualy can hear but their hearing is really bad since it havent evolved to well. They rely mostly on side lines - belts of vibration receptors on the side of body by which they feel their suroundings in 3D, and eyes.

Are you postive that your goldfish is not simply a Demekin/telescope goldfish? These fancy goldfish are bred to express enlarged eyes that naturally protrude from the sockets. You shouldn't ever attempt this yourself, and if your fish is a Demekin, the bigger eyes are something inherent to it.

Just found your channel. Gotta say I REALLY admire you and your job, man. I hate how people see some animals as valid and others as just products or decoration. I have a lot of pet chickens and recently had one of them die because of a eye infection because we coudn't find any vet who would care for her...

Huh... I have a pet fish and I didn’t know fish surgery was a thing. I know you can take your fish to the vet, but I thought the vet would only give them a prescription or something 😂 well, now my little Cedric is in even better hands now that i know this is a thing. I just hope he’ll never need surgery.
Me too, some vets really really suck. Took me years to find a good vet. At least now we know & can get better care for them ✨
