  • Here is the historical fight song of the Bears, of what was then known as "Southwest Missouri State University", now named "Missouri State University". Adopted in the 1960s, this is "The Scotsman".
The melody of this fight song is based on another fight song, most likely known as the one used by Utah State University, with the same name, albeit with different lyrics. While the Utah State Aggies' had their song, it wasn't the original. In fact, Ohio Wesleyan and Dakota Wesleyan University had their own, similar versions (which I might post one day in the future). However, the actual origin of the melody is unknown and possibly lost to history.
Unfortunately, I couldn't find the source of the one who wrote the lyrics to this particular fight song. (If anyone knows and has any proof, please let me know. Thank you in advance. ^^)
This fight song went through a lyrical change in 2005 after the university changed their name to the current name of "Missouri State University".
For the current version after 2005, you may see the video here.

    LYRICS:
Southwest Missouri, the home of the Bears,
We will be loyal, throughout our college years,
Fight for victory, while we stand up and cheer,
Let's hear it for the Bears:
    B! E! A! R! S! Bears!
    Onward, upward, SMS is here!
