I've been painting since I was 9 years old in 1972 helping my grandfather and professionally since 1980 at age 17. I turned 59 years of age July 4th 2022. I've been painting 50 years most of my life. I'm not familiar with the Picasso brush I'll have to look into that but the other two I know of and they're excellent. If you take three empty 1 gallon cans and fill them up about half full of water then wash your brush in three different rinses putting a little dish soap in the middle can this will help you immensely to clean your brushes. You put them in the first can I do it left to right. You rinse your brush in the first bucket of water by stabbing it up and down then take the brush out of the water every 4 or 5 stabs, squeeze it and let the water run down over the ferrule, metal ring holding the brush to the handle, that gets out the thick heavy paint. Repeat this process in the middle bucket that has a little dish soap in it. Finally repeat this process for the third time in Clearwater in the last bucket. By then your brush should be pretty clean but if not you can always get a fourth bucket and rinse it an additional time in clear water. This is how I've done it all my life and it works great. When you turn your brush bristles up and squeeze it you can see if there's any streaks of paint coming out and running down the ferrule. When the brush is thoroughly clean you should see only clear water. Although I've never really liked DuPont chinex because it's too firm for my liking it is supposed to be much easier to wash out than most synthetic bristle brushes. Purdy Syn-Ox is a super fine synthetic ox hair filament ox hair has always been known as the finest grade of natural bristle with the exception of camel hair which they no longer make. At least not in any painters brush an artist brushes yes. Years ago they had them but they no longer do because they're getting more and more away from oil and because they're super expensive. A 3-in brush would probably cost you $100 today back in the early eighties they were $50 Purdy Brush company made what they call on auto enamel. It was a camel hair brush made to paint automobiles which is how they painted them before the Advent of spray equipment. Purdy also makes a natural ox hair brush which is 80% fine white china bristle and 20% ox hair. This is the finest natural bristle brush they make. They are specifically made for oil varnishes and stains, but you can use them for oil paint also. They lay out a much smoother finish. Keep in mind that whenever you put a brush in stain the brush kind of gets swollen. Although stain makes it softer it's never as good for cutting a straight line after it's been used in stain. I would typically use my older natural bristle brushes in stain or keep one only for stain. You don't need to use a brush that's been used in paint and varnish or stain because you may get little white flex of the paint in your varnish finish and you will see them more so after it's dry then you will be sorry you ever used it for that. I keep a separate brush for staying and varnishing and I never use it in paint if I do I don't put it back into the stain or varnish no matter how good you clean it you always wind up with a few flakes of paint in it especially after you've been using it in pain for a while. Also it's good to have a brush comb to comb your bristles out nice and straight before you put them back in their wrappers we always call them shucks down south here in North Carolina. If you need to know anything about painting feel free to call me anytime at 910 818-3279.

Thanks for the info and advice. I typically clean my brushes in a sink under running water with the paint brush pointing down to avoid paint from getting trapped in the ferrule. If you ever get the chance you should try out the Picasso and see how you like it. I am a fan. 👍🏻

Good video - I have tried Purdy brushes and feel the same way as I cannot get a good brush stroke with then. not sure why but I think its in the bristle and Purdy seems to me to have less bristle than Wooster which I use most often. I'm no pro, but I paint something around and in my homes and barns etc... every year and think painting is very critical for home and home equipment maintenance.

I would 100 percent agree. Proper painting and staining is crucial for home maintenance.

I've been a decorator for 48 years, so I know wee bit...
When Purdy's became available in rhe Uk there was nothing else like them, they had no real competitors re quality.
Nowadays though others have copied and made better quality brushes of their own ; and cheaper too. Purdy are real stubborn on prices.
There's a handfull of better choices than a Purdy now.

Thanks for sharing. I know lots of people love Purdy, but it just isn't for me. Thankfully there are a bunch of quality options on the market. 👍🏻 Thanks for watching and commenting.

Im after a good brush what would you suggest out of corona cotez, corna excalibur, wooster ultra pro or wooster ftp or what would you prefer if you have expeeienced with them brushes

Corona and Wooster both make great brushes. I also like the Proform Picasso. Any of them should take care of you, most of it is going to come down to personal preference. Maybe try out a couple if you can and find the one that you prefer. 👍🏻

I thought at first it was popcorn popping, rain the unwanted for contractors. i am finish carpenter apart of my aspects due interior pointing i used good quality True Value line, my painter friend told me use Purdy they are better, I have Purdy rollers feel low quality and one makes squeaking noises , the mini roller is better than the standard size.
I bought Wooster sherlock pole and roller, a big difference the Wooster the roller doesn't wobble no noises and when done tap it on its side and the nap falls off with ease.
not sure where to buy Picasso or Corona an online forms many praise E & J. Like audio equipment the ones never heard of are the best
Thabk you sir for the video

I am definitely a fan of the Wooster rollers. There are a few places online that you can buy Picasso. Look up Proform Picasso, it should show up on several sites. Corona is usually in paint shops, try some of the shops that stock Benjamin Moore. Both brands can be purchased on the paint store.com Another brand worth looking at is Premier. I haven’t used them but have heard good things. Hope that helps.

A comment on a channel few years ago got a nice comment....
Reason the retired want rain is they are to old to pull the hose out and water their plants. Or similar.
How about using a Wooster roller with and with out the poke to show others what they are missing out on.
      Thanks bud!

@@garnerreviews Wooster uses ball bearings as purdy uses plastic or nylon on the cage .
Wooster near zero or zero side to side play the purdy has minor to apply paint moves around slightly.
No more purdy, yet cost little more.

no,they are legitimately inferior. they're floppy, generally speaking, and their flagging makes it difficult to cut a great line while simultaneously being a poor brush in terms of capacity. their 'clearcut" is the closest they have to a decent brush and that's only because the guy who designed it for them knew his shit. that guy has done all sorts of promotional shit for Picasso brushes and seems to use them but anytime I find a video of the dude anywhere and catch a glimpse of what brushes he has in his toolbox, they're almost always silver tips. don't bother with the 3-in silver tip semi oval. two and a half inch s.o is great and so is the regular two and a half inch, but the 3" is kind of shitty for whatever reason.
