Bashir badr as an entry point into urdu poetry. He's a timeless poet with not that hard writing and very simple verses but exceptionally deep and profound meaning. Anybody who wants to begin and understand how much could be conveyed in terribly simple lines should read him. For eg, परखना मत परखने में कोई अपना नहीं रहता किसी भी आइने में देर तक चेहरा नहीं रहता बड़े लोगों से मिलने में हमेशा फ़ासला रखना जहाँ दरिया समुंदर से मिला दरिया नहीं रहता

Please read poems of Amrita Pritam ji. She was one of the very renowned poets of undivided Punjab. Also please read poems of Kamala Das. She wrote about femininity when women were not even allowed to get education. She suffered so much throughout her life for her independent thoughts.
