fun fact: chevy chase was going to be the drummer for steely, but he was kicked out of college for keeping a cow in his dorm room (as a joke to troll university staff that might discover it if they invaded his private quarters). i forgot the rest of the history, but i think he was accepted to a new school where he pursued acting. ironically, chevy was actually possibly the most talented. he was said to have BOTH the best timing AND concept of melody. later, when asked about the time in the band prior to the name change to _steely dan_ chevy said, "ya, i was part of a bad jazz rock band". the truth is, chevy was just trying to roast of the ubiquitous bands of the last 50 years. this band has survived the ages and defied obsolescence, and rightfully so!

    • @wesleyhempoli5548
      @wesleyhempoli5548 Год назад

ya, and this was Chevy's favorite song. if you listen to the lyrics its about the guys in their early 30s, chasing younger women (hey nineteen), but how they have less in common. it starts out "back in '67" which 13 years from the time they recorded this in 1980 when were in their early 30s. back in 67 they were in college in boston and when they returned in 1980 to relive memories they found out that they had less in common with the college girls because now they were older and more mature. i like the lyric where he says the college girl never even heard of Athena franklin and he thought that was crazy that she didnt know the queen of soul and she thought he was crazy for talking about old music, which he found very ironic. but now hes just enjoying the night smoking herb (the ceurvo gold, the fine columbian) even though he has less in common with the girls 10 years younger than he did ten years ago. then he says "skate a little lower" because really he just wants to check out the young tail even if they cant "dance together" or "talk at all" but "let me know when to slide on through"!! i love songs like this that are so lyrically pure and easy to understand and just tell a relatable story. just a fun song really

I'm commenting because you said your grandmother was in her 20s in the 80s. I was 24 in 1984 and yes we were rock'n to Steely Dan and so much more. Your grandmother's generation had all the greats of rock; The Beatles, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Supertramp and the founders of Heavey Metal as well as the grandfather of Rap himself Grandmaster Flash and the list goes on and on. Yep, we had it all, then the 90s happened 😣 and music went down the drain. Channels like your's give me hope though, it's so nice to see the younger generations finding an appreciation for the music we grew up with.
There's a channel I would like to recommend to you, Postmodern Jukebox here on RUclips. They feature young artists with incredible talent doing covers with a twist all their own.

You blew my mind when you said 1980! I had no idea so I looked it up. I always thought 70's, but still close enough. I still can't believe it. Great reaction. The bass is probably my favorite part.

Steely Dan is a group (named after a popular metal dildo) - Walter Becker (guitar/bass/percussion and Donald Fagen (keyboards and vocals) - who used dozens of famous and studio musicians to produce their unique sound (they are actually their own genre). Their catalog isn't a 'rabbit hole' - it's a mine shaft. It would be nearly impossible to find a bad song on ANY of their albums....close your eyes and point to a track - chances are you'll like it. Here are some to check out:
    Kid Charlemagne
    Deacon Blues
    Peg
    FM
    Haitian Divorce
    Dr. Wu
    Aja
    Reelin' in The Years
    Rikki Don't Lose That Number
    Do it Again
    Don't Take Me Alive
    Babylon Sisters
    The Royal Scam

You have reacted to 1. Do it Again & 2. Hey Nineteen. now you only have about 38 more CLASSIC Steely Dan songs that are outstanding. good luck not finding one that you LOVE. So many FIRE songs. They are truly a genre unto themselves. Lets help Twon out and suggest some more SD.....
    I will start,
    "FM",
    "Kid Charlamage",
    the whole AJA album.

    Your mom was 5?
My daughter was born in 1984. Looks like I'm your grandma's age. I was 29. ☺
This is a song about an older guy trying to pick up a 19 year old hottie.
She doesn't know who Aretha Franklin is. She doesn't know the old dances. They cannot relate to each other no matter how much he wants to. lol
The Cuervo Gold of course is tequila and "The fine Colombian" was the high end weed at the time. (That's when weed prices went from $10 to $35!)
    That said?
Keep up the good work and you'll get to 50K! (they won't let me subscribe twice. lol)
    But hey.
Give us some more Steely Dan. It's a great rabbit hole to crawl into.
    Every song is different...

We had it goin' on! ☺

Although it came out in 1980, this song and album vibe more like late 70's (when this was likely written.) I remember being at the skating rink and this coming on. "Skate a little lower now..." It's a perfect skate song.
