I have a 997.2 base 6MT. How did you all know what “other porsche vehicle’s caliper would fit? Been wanting to upgrade mine from 330 to 350mm. Always loved the look of a big rotor filling up the wheel wells. I am aware I can fit the 350mm rotor from Gyro-disc with my calipers but would love a 6 pot up front. What alternative upgrades from Porsche could I use up front ? How did you determine what would fit up front with yours? Thanks for making great content!
Jon - have been following along, great build! I have a black base 981 like yours (or at least how it started out, I’m still stock haha) that I was planning on doing some track days with this year. Would definitely be interested in the pads from the old brakes!
We're going to do a lottery on them. We'll give it 3 days, you get 3 points for commenting first day, 2 for 2nd, etc. So you're in good position! Thanks for following along.

Fantastic video, great detail, great channel, you should have 100 times the views! Mind me asking, did you buy the calipers new yellow or where they refurbished that colour? and just to confirm, front and back are stock 991.1 and basically bolt on?
Beano thanks for the kind words! We purchased them new from Porsche. The fronts are for a 991.1 Carrera S and the tears are for a 996 Turbo or the 718. The part numbers are here: flat6motorsports.com/blogs/news/project-981-cayman-911-oem-big-brake-upgrade-episode-17. They are 100% bolt on. The 991 brakes won’t work in the rear due to their orientation. Porsche wisely rotated the mounting point so the caliper hangs lower to the ground (7 o’clock position) where the Cayman and Boxster are upward (roughly 10 o’clock position). You can just purchase the PCCB calipers and they come in yellow instead of red. That’s the only difference. I believe the rear brakes might be a tad larger than the non PCCB caliper. I believe the red requires a 10mm spacer bracket which we can provide courtesy of Giro Disc if you planned to run a 350mm rotor in the rear. The 340mm will bolt right up with the red non-PCCB rotor. Where the yellow PCCB rotor will allow a 350mm rotor in the rear to bolt right up.
Thanks for the reply, very deatailed, sorry, just rewatched and seen that you did say 996 turbo! My bad, that is a fantastic looking car, loving the gt4 front end too! Really thinking of going down this line myself with one, thanks for the inspiration, great channel find :-) cheers from Ireland
Ps did the disc have to be reworked in any way to fit with the carrera calipers on the cayman or are they std discs? The reason I ask is if they are specially reworked for this application I’m thinking for imports charges and postage to lreland, if it’s a std aftermarket discs I could try and source close to home.
@@beano6584 No, they bolt right up. You may be able to find a GiroDisc dealer locally to help offset import duty. I suspect you can use the OEM rotor or an aftermarket rotor for the 991.1 Carrera S.
Just curious, when you say they yes are straight swap....the solid brake lines are fixed to a bracket and have a set position, theses calipers are bigger, does the end of the brake pipe still connect at the same point or does it have to be bent in some way? I just read when upgrading to the 991s brakes you had to buy the pre bent porsche brake pipes to suit as the hole position changes with the bigger caliper.
The line connects in the middle of the caliper so the position is essentially identical. There's enough play where you don't have to put any unnecessary stress on the brake line.
The yellowstuff are a solid hybrid pad. The Ferodos we're running are the DS2500. The performance is reasonable but they make as much noise as a track pad without the track pad bite.
Is there a metering valve and did any changes have to be made to have the appropriate front/rear braking? Do you have a source for a 981 shop manual? they seem to be nonexistent.
There is not a valve or controller, handled through the master cylinder/ABS. There was no noticeable change to the brake bias, feels very good. We'll have more insight after we get it to the track in the next month or two.
@@Flat6Motorsports I just purchased a 2015 Porsche Cayman S. I am looking to upgrade to a big brake kit. Can you provide the GT3 master cylinder part number? 🍻

I have black 981 base as well :-), and already ordered brakes from 991, but red, really inspired by your job. Keep doing it, and I'll follow you.

Love the build and hope to get my 981 soon.
Hi Jon, I've followed your posts for sometime now. I love what you're doing to that 981.
Très bonne vidéo
I had 2016 cayman base as well!! Love ur video help a lot

Roughly what kind of money for all the parts?
Want to do this same setup on my 718, thanks!
Will the same swap fit to 718 caymans?

What are the p/n# for those yellow calipers???
Part #'s for PCCB Calipers in Yellow:
991-351-426-34 (FR Caliper)
991-351-425-34 (FL Caliper)
996-352-424-32 (RR Caliper)
996-352-423-32 (RL Caliper)
999-067-053-09 X8 (Caliper Bolts)
Does it need to change the brake adapter?
It doesn't but the GT3 master cylinder works better with brake feel.
How were the yellow stuff pads and what model pads were the Ferodo? Thanks!

Do you still have those yellow stuff pads by chance?
No, we already gave them away.
which are the wheels and size regards franck
Did you have to get new 991 master cylinder as well?
LOL nvm.. should've finished the video before commenting.
We ended up to the GT3 master cylinder. Not sure it was needed but added some meat to the pedal feel for sure.

That's not a dust shield, it's a heat shield to protect the ball joints from the disc IR.
He mentioned it's heat characteristics too, Poindexter.
