my family has had a 2001,2006,2011,2012,,2013, and a 2022, 2 of which we still have. I have the 2013 2.5 limited and my mom has the 2022 outback premium. We love our outbacks, both those we have and those we no longer have. they'll do just about anything you ask of them and they run forever if you take care of them.

I've been driving a '19 H6 Outback since 2021 (I used some of your reviews back then to pick the outback) and I'm still in love with it. I plan to drive it into the ground.

I bought a 2023 Outback Premium at the end of 2022, and love the car. I agree with your observations, especially the value aspect. Couple other nice features you didn't mention...retractable roof rack cross bars, hands-free tailgate opener (hold your hand an inch from the Subaru logo and it'll open), unlock the doors by putting your hand inside a front door handle, and an actual (compact) spare tire. I got option package 15 with the moonroof, blind spot monitoring, and more.

The Outback being longer makes it a better choice for taller folks with young kids in a rear facing child seats. Those few inches make all the difference.

That extra leg room for 2 car seats was the final straw that made me upgrade '05 Forester to a '24 OBXT Onyx.

As a '22 Outback Premium owner, it's a fantastic car. Very comfortable, spacious, reasonably efficient, very quiet, and great driver assists. I like the pre-facelift models because they have C-shaped LED running lights up front and don't use the low beams for DRL. I use auto climate control exclusively in mine. I also optioned mine without the sunroof. Coming from a Ford product with the keypad, the PIN entry is almost as good and very convenient. It's long enough that I can fit my bike in the back without taking off a wheel. Subaru has a VIP program that for a $500 donation to certain charities, you get a coupon for 2% below invoice pricing and all accessories at invoice. It saved me over $3500 on mine.
I only have a few complaints. It's a little slow but I didn't want to pay more for the turbo engine and take the fuel economy hit. The backup camera and Android Auto only use a third of that big screen.

Based on a frankly outdated notion of their reliability, used Subarus are ridiculously expensive. There's really no reason to buy a late-model used one, when a brand-new one is only a tiny bit more expensive, and you get the security of knowing exactly how the car's been treated from day one, and a full factory warranty. The mandatory CVT is a deal-breaker for me, though. Would greatly prefer a manual, but if that ain't happening, a regular automatic would do.

Depends. About 3 months ago I scored a 2021 Subaru Outback Premium with the package 13, It had just under 7K miles on it. I saved over $10,000 if I were to buy the same premium package for 2024 (the 2025s were not out at that time). With the low mileage, I'd say it was a win!

The Outback Premium is around $33 - $36k with most of the safety options in package #13 or #15. My kids grew up in my 2005 & 2013 Outbacks, and now they drive our 2024 when they are home from college. The Crosstrek is more like my 2005 Outback... smaller, but more nimble, but you would probably want to get the higher trims that come with the 2.5l .

They rob the engine of horsepower , torque and mpg.
    I got 27mpg on my 11 RAV 4WD Limited with the 3.5L V6 with 269 hp through a 5spd automatic transmission.

CVTs are the optimal transmission. They keep the engine in the optimal power range all of the time. They have infinite gear ratios as opposed to a fragile overcomplicated 9 speed transmission some cars have moved to. They were banned from Formula One because of the huge advantage they gave.

@@GetOffMyyLawn Whenever you floor your vehicle with the CVT, the engine turns around, looks at you and says, “WTH, do you actually want me to increase the speed?”
Then your engine RPM’s jumps to 6K and you gain speed Painfully SLOW.
We’ve owned 2 vehicles with the CVT and we will NEVER EVER buy another vehicle with a CVT again !
The CVT transmission is very inexpensive to manufacture but Very EXPENSIVE to replace and since they CANNOT be rebuilt, the automakers “Valued Customers” gets bent over while the automakers screw them royally at the cost of $8K - $10K.
My 19 Forester Touring with the GUTLESS 182 horsepower 2.5L, 4 banger got poorer fuel economy than my 11 RAV4 Limited 4WD with the 269 horsepower 3.5L V6 and the 5spd automatic GEARED transmission.
My wife’s 2019 Outback is Painfully SLOW.
So you can say all that you want about the CVT and that’s cool with me, but We will NEVER EVER it another vehicle with the lousy CVT.
