MADtv - Fearlessly Funny

- With this Tribute to MADtv, I assembled a compilation of clips focusing from the first few seasons of the show. The team at that time was clearly unafraid to take risks with controversial subjects, and the results were hilarious memories that will stand the test of time as they were clearly ahead of their time!

Did this guy add reference clips for the skits? Holy Shit this is above and beyond.

Same…this show was one of the happiest things of my childhood
I will never understand why this show was canceled but SNL is still on. MAD TV was sketch comedy at it's best.
It's sad, but it's not hard to understand...
I have always wondered what happened to MAD TV. I have also wondered why Dave Chappelle never returned to his hilarious television show.
@@thefutureofyesterday8136 i typed these questions into google and you would not BELIEVE what i found out!
The last couple of seasons of Mad TV were horrible, their roster of greats was gone and ratings tanked. At the same time, SNL had Fey, Thompson, and a bunch of strong actors still, so they survived.
MADTV was a lot more raw and offensive. By the time the last season was made, Americans were protesting anyone and everything that offended them. They couldn't do the same kind of comedy without getting in trouble so they just closed up shop.
Mad TV needs to make a come back. Amazing talent.
It could never be as funny as it is here nowadays unfortunately.
Sadly nowadays it would get shut down so fast 😢
"Pretty White Kid's with Problems" was EPIC when it aired originally, you could never get away with this stuff today. I MISS these days!!! 🥺😔🤦🏾♀️
Yes you could, since mocking whites is the basis of comedy. Only whites.
Agreed
Thanks for articulating what I already knew is a little bit sad that we have so many knuckleheads teething puppies
💯
Bobby Lee explained on his podcast that the reason why they could get away with some much on the show was because Fox treated the show like a red-headed step-child. Meaning the higher ups rarely checked in on them.
Thanks for the extra info. 🌴
@Shin Shaman
Oh, damn! I didn't know that, either.
@Shin Shaman Who did?
Same thing happened with Married with Children, and I say it again without Married with Children a lot of show will not exist now.

Hearing that theme song again after all these years literally made my heart hurt.
Brings me right back to 1999 man
Same thing I felt like a kid again
Same here…..nostalgia!
This was a time that comedy was allowed
I have poo pee in my pants
I used to sit up by myself and watch Mad Tv on Saturday nights at 11 or midnight, when I was about 10. That was back when kids didn't have on demand cartoons and RUclips.
Lol
MAD was way better than SNL
I always thought so too!
I'd agree it's better then SNL but ranks second after "In Living Colour" though
Agreed
"and stay away from my daughter charcoal black" 😆🤣 funniest show ever and I miss it!
Charcoal black sounds like a Unknown Rapper's Name
Cracked me up too at 3 in the morning in hospital 🏥
This show is the epitome of "everything is funny" and knowing there was no harm intended
Yeah.. at the time, I had no idea the early 2000's were going to be the pinnacle of the post-racial society.
bobby lee was the best cause he wanted to laugh so many times and you could tell he was cool with the stereotypes of asians
The way comedy was, and the way it should be... open to all. It was meant to be in jest. That is why they call them jokes... Comedy keeps us all in check by "taking the piss" out, as the Brits say. Everyone takes things way to seriously now. So sad, as life is stressful and short, and laughter keeps us happy and healthy.

It's a shame that the path to hell is paved with good intentions
They were just trying to make jokes, but they didn't realise they were accidentally normalising punching down for comedy

Too True! Did you find it at all alarming through, the almost premanatory sketch of Brittany Spears ?
This and In Living Color
Except if it existed now, it would get ‘cancelled’
No, it's much more free than now. There isn't so much perceived freedom at the moment to make these jokes. But at the same time it's a lot of bull and it's fun to make good, funny, creative and meaningful sketches.
I was watching show when I was 8 years old. Its still hilarious. Beats SNL by a mile.

I was 15 when they premiered. I only liked certain casts on SNL (they're terrible now). But they never compared to MADTV. In 15 seasons they never disappointed. Unapologetic in their skits and always pushing the limits. Like trey parker and Matt stone

I agree w / you about MADtv vs SNL.
Sometimes, MADtv writers realized they may have crossed-the-line but they went ahead anyway ; for example, The-Bill-
Clinton-can't-tell-a-lie-
during-Chelsea Clinton's-birthday skit.
Clinton's last line to "Chelsea" was brutal.
After the skit, there was a disclaimer about how "lovely" they ( MADtv ) thought Chelsea Clinton was ...
South Park has a rep. for being "mean-spirited". I stopped watching after their mis-treatment of Butters, but started watching again after the addition of PC Principal.
( I've never seen any disclaimers from South Park. )
@@cliffgaither IKR. 🤣 I watched this, Married With Children, The Simpson’s, Martin, SNL and In Living Color with my Dad when I was a kid. The rule was not to repeat the adult stuff, but I got to see anything cool on network tv before 9pm on a school night and by 12/1 am on the weekends until I was 12. Monty Python was also on the tube whenever my Dad found it on TV. Good times.

I loved MADtv back when I was a teen in the late '90s and early '00s.

Part of me is glad that Alex found a career in voicing Lois, but I really miss her characters on this show
Absolutely loved her as Ms. Swan! :)
I did not realize family guy been on since 1999!
I agree. MADtv was far superior to Saturday Night Live because it wasn't afraid to take risks. When I see a sketch on Saturday Night Live oh, everybody looks frightened stiff wooden and terrified to make any joke Off Script because their producer is a megalomaniac. At least with mad TV they weren't afraid to spoof anything and they're actually funny doing it.
Well said.
Gotta agree. Best argument I’ve seen, hands down.
Lol the canned show took so many risks. 🙄

I was about 10 or 11 when I started watching the show. It was the best! Even at a young age I understood some adult jokes. The OG cast were amazing. Every Saturday I laughed uncontrollably. Wish we still had this gem.
This was the one of many shows I looked forward to watching when I was a kid.
this show would not fly now, but it is something that is badly needed, people need to laugh a lot more
They do laugh, but only at the expense of someone else's life. The ones heavily obsessed with politics, and narratives.
A lot of these skits are very innocent and not offensive but people find damn near everything offensive these days

It's actually a real thing. Not kidding. My best friend's older brother was in drama classes all through school and then moved to Hollywood to try to make it as an actor. He lived there for about 8 years. He had a few minor TV appearances, but never got any real work. Anyway, he's the one that told us about the Keanu Reeves acting style classes. Freaking hilarious.

Yes, "MAD TV" was really great tv show
Here’s the thing about Mad TV: you know you’re in good hands. You can relax and anticipate humor, rather than brace for cringe. The writing is better, the acting is better, the cast gels more, and it’s just... good. It’s very, very good. SNL is a marathon of “Please, please let this be mildly amusing and not a carbon copy of a skit they’ve done 20 times before. Let the political commentary be witty and apt, and let the narrator not just state SNL’s political opinions outright. If it’s another Gilly or What’s Up With That, let the remote be close at hand.”
