Simple chords. Simple rhythm. And yet singing and playing at the same time is a monumental task.
Accurate
The part I most appreciated was when Justin noted how hard it was to replicate Lou’s vocal phrasing. Glad I. Not the only one who thought that.
I love the Cowboy Junkies rendition of this song too.
So do I… I tuned to open E and that gives you the way he plays it
Best version ever. 👍
Miley cyrus version is no joke
Amen to that. CJs are the bomb.
Yes, I was going to bring up the Cowboy Junkies’ version if nobody had. Very different from the original, but gorgeous… haunting.
Live version is unbelievable, one of the best intros in music
The best intro of all times.
Literally was listening to it in the shower this morning and thought, I might as well get the chords down.
I agree! Back in 1975-76 we used to crank it to get psyched before a lacrosse game! Another fantastic intro is the live Celluloid Heroes by the Kinks. Rock on!
I always thought Justin should cover some VU stuff on his channel. They are great for beginners and a lot of fun to play. Thanks, Justin! Hope to see more of VU!
Thanks Justin for another refresher on Sweet Jane, we played this song in our list back in the gigging days.
One of the first songs I learned to play. I still enjoy playing it all these years later, thanks for all the lessons Justin.
Loving it and the vocals, very Lou Reed well done
I love how Lou Reed introduced Sweet Jane by saying "I've made a career out of three chords"! Great song and great lesson!!
even though it's four chords! 😁😇
@@LieuNoir He was a great musician. But his math skills, not so much.
@@Scott_6666 He was aware of what he called the secret chord
@@barryduff3047 But unaware that three plus one equals four.
@@Scott_6666 no he stated in interviews that many thought it was 3 chords but in fact it had 4.
The Velvet's are one of my all time favourite bands, so I appreciate this lesson! As for recommendations, I've been trying to learn What Goes On by ear recently, so I'd love a lesson for that so that I can see if I've gotten it right. I'd also love lessons for I'm Waiting For The Man and Jesus, two of my favourites.
A great song with simple chords. Thanks!
Great tune Justin!! keep doing what you're doing.
Anything Velvet Underground would be great.
Thanx
Brilliant thank again Justin 🤗🤗🤗✅
Great video Justin 👏👏👏
🎸🎸🎸🎸👍 🎸🎸🎸🎸
Great little tune!Cool melody!Nice!
Merci Justin !
Fantastic - very clear; much easier to do it this way than all other "lessons" out there! Thanks.
Lou Reed, an all time favorite! Been listening since the Velvet days.
I've been listening to a sizeable portion of his albums lately. Too bad he can't sing worth shit. He talks through most of his work, and what little he does sing is so off key/pitch, it's shocking. Lots of the songs and the music are great, just not his "singing".
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH
It’s so odd, because he started as a doo wop singer, and had a modest hit.
On some Velvet songs he sings very well, but as he went through the 70’s it became less singing.
He sings well on some of Transformer, it just depends on one’s taste.
I do agree, especially of his post Velvet work, that most doesn’t feature good singing, if any.
He’s a real love or hate type of artist. Folks usually like covers of their songs.
Jane’s Addiction, doing Rock n Roll, Cowboy Junkies, doing Sweet Jane, Bowie, doing Waiting for the Man and White Light, White Heat, and Perfect Day was covered by quite a few after Trainspotting put it back out into the world in the 90’s.
Loved your tutorial to play on the guiter.thanks for the lesson.
Man, that's a killer tone. Perfect for this song.
Cheers for posting
Been concentrating on getting my e shapes playable 8 months in2 my journey, and up pops justin with a cracking song for my next obsession 🙂👍
Reed was very proud of the Bm.
Thanks for a great lesson on a rock classic.
I love your non-cliche selections!
I was just on the website and missed this. Well, just more to look forward to tomorrow!
You 100% nailed it and gave this diehard Lou fan goosebumps.
I’m a 60s and 70s fan as I’m 69 you hit my all time favorite song. The intro covers the whole side of the album. Mott the Hoople did an awesome cover of Sweet Jane.
Mick Ralphs’ fills and solos are brilliant on that Mott the Hoople version.
The Mott The Hoople version was my introduction to the song so it's still my favourite. That said, I love the version on Rock and Roll Animal with its brilliant intro.
You and me both. Lovely tune.
Walk on the wild side is pretty good too!
R.I.P. Lou.
Cheers
It is hard to sing over that groove .
This was so good !!
Note - I have to try and make a video , for a special birthday surprise, to my friends daughter Jane .
I’m going to just do the “ Sweet Jane …… Happy Birthday… Sweet Jane “….
Something simple .
PS - I live in The US and my friend and his daughter live in Australia.
Hope they like 🙏🙏🙏
I did post the Happy Birthday video for my Australian friend .
She absolutely loved it !!!!!
( Happy Birthday Rambo Style ).
If you get a chance , head on over to my channel and check it out .
Thanks 🙏
Brilliant …. You are a great teacher
Guitar sounds great as always, obviously. But your voice is perfect on this. Well done.
You’re the Best.
Great song Maybe you can do dirty Blvd.Lou Reed🎸lot of up strokes Thanks Justin
Thanks
Iconic
Next: Heroin :-) thanks a lot, I love the Velvet Underground
I'm waiting for the man would be great. But this is super cool
You did it justice.
Lou would frequently play the Bm in the first position, which I personally think sounds better.
Love the Velvet Underground, and especially this song, one of my favorites! I’d love a lesson for “Waiting for the Man” also, another VU classic!

Another great song, keep it up!
Thank you! Have a great Sunday :)
'Pale Blue Eyes", "Waiting For My Man", "Femme Fatale" my recommendations
I love this song
Great tune!
Thank You. I've always made a B major. But You 've shown me that a B minor is more correct. Thanks
More Velvet Underground pls!!
U know the way he started it was so dope
COOL song! \m/

Nice lesson! I would love to see a way to play Venus on Furs with just a guitar.
After hours by Velvet Underground, is very cool song, can you make lesson abought it.
P.s. you are realy the best teacher! Thanks a lot.
Would love if you could do dreams by Fleetwood mac. Love this song and the lessons that you are doing. Helping me progress at much faster than normal. Keep it up Justin!

Beautiful song. I would love the CANDY SAYS chords
Loaded is such a good album.
I've seen Lou Reed demo this riff. He played the B minor with the barre at the second fret.
Haha, there’s a vid of him on David Letterman where he plays that Bm at the second fret during the intro, and ignores it for most of the rest of the song.
@@chasbodaniels1744 I've seen him leave it out altogether.
Bm at fret 2 and Bm at fret 7 are not so different ... a little bit of subtle difference in the timbre and in the movement required between chords of course.
Cheers 😊

thanks Justin for shining light on TVU, hope one day you came with *I'll be in your mirror
Please make pale blue eyes and these days by velvet Underground!!
Good job on the song; I really liked your singing. Some velvet underground song recommendations: I’m Waiting For The Man, White Light/White Heat, Run Run Run, After Hours, Some Kinda Love, There She Goes Again, Sister Ray.
Agree! Run Run Run would be cool!
Thanks for the tips on upstrokes & downstrokes. Other VU songs? I was going to suggest a fingerpicking version of Sunday Morning with the guitar replacing the celesta but After Hours is probably a better song for a lesson.
Those are both great songs, I was just thinking about Sunday Morning the other day, in fact, I haven’t listened to that in a while.
you did a pretty remarkable job of nailing his cadence on the vocals.
Great job man only question..can you go over the bridge part from the velvet underground loaded album ?
Hello Justin!First of all I love your Guitar Tutorials, they're awesome!🎸🧡My request to you is...please could you do a Guitar Tutorial, bothRhythm and Lead Guitar parts, from the Classic 80's song "Talking In Your Sleep" from "The Romantics"? Hi Justin, thanks for this tutorial for which I voted on your request board. Just 2 little comments (may be they have already been submitted, I don't use or read comments too much usually) I was a little disapointed by two things:
no mention of the cowboy junkies version that is as famous and interesting as the original is, and that integrates a cool bridge
and a focus on the epic version of the rock n roll animal live would have been great too (and the solo, not talking of the intro).
As the tune is not so complex when you master your bar chords, those two add-on of very famous versions (probably as known or more than the original) would have been welcome and if you feel like making a version 2 of your tutorial it would be very appreciated. Thanks for all your work, do know that I have started with you method and that I recommend it to every beginner guitarist.
Thank you for the amszing tutorial, i love the song All Tomorrow's Parties, the guitars r very cool, if u can, could u do a tutorial on it?
yes please, “All Tomorrow’s Parties”!

On the Best of Lou and the VU album version it's the same chords but a different key, it starts on E instead of D.
Great video once again! Could you also do dirty blvd, Pale blue eyes and herion?

Don't know if you've already done it, but I'd love a lesson on, all tomorrow's parties 👍
Waiting for my man
Hey Justin.
Theres a song called "I just dont think i'll ever get over your" sung by Colin Hay. The best version is live from the "eTown" channel.
U can break it down to a really simple open chord song, but the way he plays it is has so many cool things in it. It really is a great song and i really, really hope you will take a listen and hope to do a tutorial on it.
Because i would love to play it like the original.
Great song 😎
…. and eTown is an amazing radio show. Been on forever.
This will be easier; but this song is one of the greats
I don't know how else to say it, Jay, but you ROCK with ALL CAPS, buddy! - Any chance you're a DEAD MILKMEN fan, too? I'm sure you've done some Kinks, too, but some super acoustic punk, here, man... BILLY BRAGGish, the way you pulled it off, too- Compliments on the singing!
One of the greatest bands ever.. love the Milkmen...
@@101oakridge for better or worse tattooed on my brain forever, at the least... Catch their Saturday morning podcast on RUclips-better than a G-Force marathon over captain crunch, and a great after-party for KYG Friday.

Lew Reed plays this with a b minor. Check out his video with Elvis Costello.
I can't listen to this without hearing
Short skirt long jacket!
"She's fast and thorough and sharp as a tack. She's touring the facilities and picking up slack."
My vote is for Foggy Notion.
Cowboy Junkies does the best version BY FAR.
Mott The Hoople's version is the best!
I always break out signing Alice Cooper "Be My Lover" or vice versa...usually do a a verse of each lol
You left out the section Reed loved most about the song. Listen to the full song from the Loaded album or the Live 69 slow version. Both have a big change up.
When he sings “Heavenly, wine and roses, seem to whisper to her, when he smiles…”
I am really getting back into Justin’s lessons now he can sang , whoops sorry Justin ,
Lou Reed plays the B minor on the second fret, A string root, not the seventh fret, E string root?
渋いね🐭
Rock n roll by the VU?
To me the best version is the one of Two Nice Girls.
Other songs… lonesome cowboy Bill… albeit it’s pretty simple. Best songs are the simple ones hey. Anyway. Thanks, Bill
It's always better that machine metal music. Cont make anything sound like that album.
Lol
white light white heat plaseee
Correction: you speed clearly,
Yoga speed si well
Yip llovethis
I love The Velvet Underground so many great songs. I watch your channel all the time but sorry but the Brit’s did this much better with Mott the Hoople
Memories Justin! Was hooked on Acid and all my friends on Heroin at the time, few left alive. I found Jesus Christ and an amazing woman as my wife, cleaned up. Still here and sharing Jesus Gospel!
