If any of you guys here knew anything about Cliff Burton you'd know he was a fan of bands you wouldn't think he nor Metallic would be into. REM, Simon & Garfunkel and yes Lou Reed! Take this for what it is - Metallic jamming with a friend. Musical differences aside, its about celebrating music and friends.
I always, always loved Sweet Jane. But honestly haven't heard a lot of good live versions by Lou. Now, Im not into Metallica really, but this just sounds cool. I somehow think Lars' helpless drumming, alongside the bands distorted instruments...it sounds badass, man!

The best thing about this show is that a Metal Band like Metallica honors Lou Reed by playing "Sweet Jane" together with him, even though they cant really get the groove of the "original" Sweet Jane on the Live Album from the 70s. Hell maybe he was simply tired(those days from all that partying had to have taken their toll lol). I agree with Mike in that I'm confused about all the negativity about this video. I LOVED it! Lou Reed was a bit before my time; I have always loved Judas Priest, Boston, Scorpions, Black Sabbath, Metallica & such, & felt all the music from Lou Reed's generation that was called 'Rock & Roll' sounded more like 'Country' (just not hard hitting enough). That being said, the first time I saw this when it aired on TV, I LOVED it! Metallica's, & lead singer James Hetfield's strong bass & vocals which command you to 'bang your head' in my opinion, were the perfect choice to perform with Lou Reed here. I think I already knew the title 'Sweet Jane' done by Lou Reed, but I'd never heard it before. This version of 'Sweet Jane' since first airing is one of my most played now on my playlist. James seems to really throw himself into providing his well known, hard-hitting vocals as back-up for Lou, yet was not trying to out-do Lou on his own song. This match-up suddenly made Lou Reed's 'Sweet Jane' relatable for me, & I loved it immediately. And, when I first saw it, I was immediately filled with warm, fuzzy feelings - it is a beautiful thing when a popular musician of a current decade, lends their talents to another (once popular) and definitely older musician & allow them to become relevant to later generations, as well. To see one musician show this kind of love for a fellow musician - there's that warm, fuzzy feeling. I wish these two would have got together & produced a studio version of this song as well. LOVED IT!!!

Rock-N-Roll Animal is an amazing album - the intro to Sweet Jane is pure guitar harmony.

I agree with Mike in that I'm confused about all the negativity about this video. I LOVED it! Lou Reed was a bit before my time; I have always loved Judas Priest, Boston, Scorpions, Black Sabbath, Metallica & such, & felt all the music
from Lou Reed's generation that was called 'Rock & Roll' sounded more like 'Country' (just not hard hitting enough). That being said, the first time I saw this when it aired on TV, I LOVED it! Metallica's, & lead singer James Hetfield's strong bass & vocals which command you to 'bang your head' in my opinion, were the perfect choice to perform with Lou Reed here. I think I already knew the title 'Sweet Jane' done by Lou Reed, but I'd never heard it before. This version of 'Sweet Jane' since first airing is one of my most played now on my playlist. James seems to really throw himself into providing his well known, hard-hitting vocals as back-up for Lou, yet was not trying to out-do Lou on his own song. This match-up suddenly made Lou Reed's 'Sweet Jane' relatable for me, & I loved it immediately. And, when I first saw it, I was immediately filled with warm, fuzzy feelings - it is a beautiful thing when a popular musician of a current decade, lends their talents to another (once popular) and definitely older musician & allow them to become relevant to later generations, as well. To see one musician show this kind of love for a fellow musician - there's that warm, fuzzy feeling. I wish these two would have got together & produced a studio version of this song as well. LOVED IT!!!
Lou's old band Velvet Underground was actually one of the big influences on the first wave of punk rock coming out of New York
Go listen to lou reeds ... rock n roll animal ... best version of sweet jane ... the greatest live version .. its a long intro then into sweet jane .. or the album .. coney island baby ... is worth a listen ... that and r n r animal are my favs ... new york is great too ...
@@mikes6970 yes Dick Wagner and Steve Hunter were fantastic on RnR Animal ... Prakash John exceptional on bass as well ... the other sing that really stands out is Rock ‘n’ Roll ... exceptional lead playing
@@dwightlloyd yeah fukn mean line up then .. theres concert from 73 r n r animal on u tube .... r nr animal is such an under rated album ... both sides are awesome ... never tire listening to it ,im 60 so heard it quite abit ... coney island baby is my other fav ... transformer and new york need a mention too (and need to be included in any good album collection ....)

I hope you have. It's different, but it's still GOOD!! I couldn't listen to it every day, but from time to time I give it a listen, & find new things in it every time. It's a beautiful way for Lou to go out with. Peace!!

calm down people stop hating none of you have heard any of the new songs but you'll be surprised when the album comes out! they said is unlike none of them has done before it comes out november 1st and metallica is making another 100% metallica album on 2012 so calm down people this may be good lets just wait and stop the hating!
