  • Just a very quick video showing the engine in my MGB running, I know viewers would be disappointed if I did not take it to the redline; 7000rpm.
    The red light you can see is the shift light that comes on at 6800, and the engine was up to temperature before I started filming. The oil temperature gauge that you can see is not currently connected.
    Thanks to Opie Oils for all their support in 2022 www.opieoils.c...

      @@davidrussellwilks that’s a splendid mg you got there! May I ask what one must do to achieve a 7,000 rpm redline ? I’m looking to buy a 1975 mgb roadster and would like to know what I can do to get either a 7,000 or 8,500 rpm redline

    Thanks for the video David. I have a Bee, 5 bearing engine in my MGA. I appreciate it depends on the cam, but I found my engine didnt make any more BHP at 7,000rmp than it did at 6,000 even though it will rev past 6,000rmp. I guess I could run with a full race cam but that makes the car a pig to drive under about 4,000rmp. How dod you find your Bee to drive under say 3,000rmp in 4th gear?

    • @davidrussellwilks
      @davidrussellwilks  2 года назад

      The car has a fairly hot cam and is unhappy below 4000rpm generally. Peak power is at 6800rpm, on the track I like to keep it between 5-7000rpm

      @timcremorne5705 2 года назад

      @@davidrussellwilks Thanks David, I thought that would be the case, espcially as you have built a track car. Mine does not like being under 2,500 rmp over that it is fine. My MGA makes 150 rear wheel bhp at around 5,900rmp, tends to drop a little after that.

      Yes, the full Moss Tourist Trophy system. I had to have another backbox made though as the first one cracked around where the hanger attach. The replacement is thicker stainless steel.

    Sounds ok above 3k but it's lumpy and rough at the bottom end,definitly needs more carb tuning.

    • @davidrussellwilks
      @davidrussellwilks  Год назад

      I'm not sure it needs tuning; the engine does not come into the power band of the cam until 3500.

    Gorgeous sound! Where or how do you get your weber tuned? My BGT has a 45 but tends to cough a lot when under load.

    • @davidrussellwilks
      @davidrussellwilks  2 года назад

      I would definitely recommend having the car rolling road it, it's the only way to really set up the weber carburettor.

  • @jeffhildreth9244

    Hi David, looks good sounds great.
    Two questions: Why not SUs?
    How is your Weber choked and jetted.?
    Thanks from Oregon USA

    • @davidrussellwilks
      @davidrussellwilks  2 года назад

      Thanks for your message Jeff, the Weber 48 does seem to be the best option for outright power, I think the SU's are better for engines below 140bhp or so and do give a good response, they are certainly happier than the Weber at lower RPMs too.
      I know the Weber has 45 chokes, I don't have the other details to hand though, it was set up on a rolling road and since then I've left it well alone!

      Sorry Ian I don't quite understand: " magically-moving washer bottle"?

    • @ianactually
      @ianactually Год назад

      @@davidrussellwilks I'm probably mistaken, but at 0:48 the Tudor washer bottle seems to be almost hard up against the oil breather hoses, but then at 1:38 it appears to be further to the right. Perhaps just an optical illusion due to everything under the bonnet being so clean and shiny :-)

    • @davidrussellwilks
      @davidrussellwilks  Год назад +1

      @@ianactually I see what you mean now Ian, there are two bottles, one is at the back of the engine next to the aluminium catch tank (this is the washer bottle). The bottle you can see bottom left 1:38 is the overflow for the coolant, if you look to the right at 01:38 you will see the washer bottle too.
