About the Midi map mode in Scala Quantizer, it maps each pitch of the current scale onto the 12-tone-per-octave pitches that you'd get by default from a midi controller. So, if you're using a midi keyboard and sending it through the quantizer, instead of tuning each key to the nearest pitch of your selected scale, each key, as you go up, will be returned to the next pitch in the scale. If you wish to use, for example, a scale with 24 pitches in an octave, then two octaves on your keyboard will correspond with one octave of your scale.

Was watching your latest video "Permutation Overview and Tutorial" and wanted to know more about the quantizer you were using. Doing a search - what do you know? A different tutorial from Omri explaining exactly what I was looking for. Hats off to you, sir!
Useful comparison, you are a very good teacher. The only thing that didn't work for me is when I try the double-Quantum at 8:33, because the VCV Rack keeps crashing. Other than that, I learned a lot from you. Thanks again!
Thanks, Lars! I wonder what quantizers are available in Eurorack. I can think of a couple but I never really got into this since VCV is taking care of everything like this.
Kind of in the same neighborhood, SouthPole Riemann is a neat way to get quantized notes. It's actually a sequencer, but built to sequence chords based on perfect 5hs and minor 3rds. I guess it's kind of an algorythmic sequencer, like Grids/Topograph. Would love to see a rundown of all the modules like this.
Bit late to the party, but I guess the midi mode on the poly scala would allow you to map an external keyboard to something like 10 tone equal temperament.
I really love Utility by dBiz. 3 inputs and 3 outputs. The 2nd and 3rd inputs can be treated as offsets of the first. For some reason it's currently tagged under "Utility" and not "Quantizer".
My preferred one is the Amalgamated Harmonics. Clear, offers the common scales and before the polyphonic option of VCV it was super handy with its 8 individual voices (and it is more handy today with polyphonic I/O). The second one is the Quantum because you can create your own scales from a readable keyboard. For all the others I can't understand how such things can be proposed, there is no keyboard displayed, nor any note information, you must count in your head to know if this button is F or F#, it is a hell. So just 2 quantizers are enough for all needs (excluding micro tuning). The AH, simple and efficient and the Quantum to create special scales. You can forget all the others :-)
repelzen re-win and holonic lazy susan also have vertical keyboard layouts similar to quantum for selecting notes in a scale. they also have some interesting features, as omri explains in the video, that are different from quantum. personally i find re-win's scenes super useful.
@@ablaut When you look at the details they are some cool features here and there that are not in the AH or the Quantum you're right. It's cool to have this choice and to be able to select the ones you're the best confortable with. But there are so much modules now for VCV that's it is merely impossible to load them all and study each one. I did it but I stopped when we reached about 1000 modules. I also published a view videos (in French) about how to pick the right modules, how they work and using them the right way to create music not just beeps and blips. The quantizers I named were among the first ones and they always make the job. I think it is enough for must people apart very exotic needs like micro tuning. I believe it is a good advice for the vast majority of users. Knowing to get the most from a limited number of modules is more efficient for creativity than loading thousand ones and just scratching their surface while loosing time in secondary interest things. Omri is doing a great job helping to make the right choices. The real lesson is in this ability to make a selection, the goal is not to make you using all these modules in a patch of course.
great video! i’ve been using quantum to quantize notes ( i’m a noob) and since it has a gate out it’s been great, the jw quantizer does not have a gate, and i’ve been using CLOCKED into entropia to sequence , so i can figure out with that set up how to use jw quantizer, would i route something from CLOCKED into say interzones gate?
Thanks! Well, I guess that the easiest will be to use Quantum or a different quantizer that has a gate output, but you can also try ReTrig from Repelzen that is designed for this.
Omri Cohen thank you man, i will have to give that a try, i’m still learning how to string everything together but every day is getting a bit better, i really do like the jw quantizer but i might have to just use quantum for a while since my patch didn’t have any clock in it besides clocked, i love that thing
Yes, Clocked is a must, totally. By the way, also Mother from Orange Line has the option to choose a predetermined scale. It's in the right click menu. It also has a gate output like the one on Quantum.
Hello Omri. I want to use VSTs in VCV like plogue. And i found Host module. Do you think this is worth to buy it. Do you know any technique to use VSTs in VCV Thanks.
Host is the thing if you want to use VST in VCV. But be careful. VCV is already demanding on the CPU. So it's depending to your Computer which VST'S work fine. Some of them crackle very easy. I use it and i like Host very much. And its supporting the Makers of VCV if you buy some Stuff from them.
Hi! Yeah, like Roland said, Host is the thing for you if you want to use VSTs in VCV.. I have it and it's great, but I have to be honest I don't use it that often. I find that I have enough to play with in VCV and I don't have so many VSTs actually. Although, running Kontakt in VCV can be lots of fun, but I do get crackles here and there. Don't forget also that now Host is polyphonic so you can also program drums and such (pssttt, video coming soon ;) )

I wondered if you know how to create a scalar file.

I'm not so sure actually but have a look here - www.huygens-fokker.org/scala/
