I was having issues with my Ford. My mechanic said if I need a work truck that just ready to get it done every day to get the diesel titan. Sold my Ford the next day and bought the diesel titan and will never look back. I am actually looking for a 2nd to buy.
I have a 16 Titan XD with the Cummins engine and really love it. It currently has over 178k on it and I tow a 37.6’, 11k lbs c Travel trailer from the northeast down to Arkansas, up to Colorado and back to the northeast going various different directions without any major issues and will continue to tow with it with no hesitation.

@@njc2981I have one. They are nice interior for the money. Great seats super quiet cabin. Nice sub under the seat. It’s laggy down low but rolling acceleration is insane 60 to 100 is fast. I’ve gone 110 on accident lol. Tows anything at 80 like nothing is back there. They are big and long hard to park like any 2500

I've written my own tune for the ISV. I can completely appreciate the legal concerns. However, the emissions tuning is not great for the engine or the transmission. A good tune can really relax the engine.
It'd be pretty unique to make a Nissan ramp truck! Being a DD, that would get old quick. Maybe find a old domestic 70-80's cab and start there. It'd be a cool project for the show.

Had a random emissions code on one trip...but it self corrected after letting the truck idle for 2 hours....and I am having an issue with my 4wd right now....that I believe based on my research that is a broken fork in the Tcase..I have to pull it to repair

Ian: I have been watching you build awesome vehicles for many years now and always wanted to know what happened to that Scout that you and the late Jesse Combs built (I think)? That was the first project that I remember after I got DirectTV to be able to access your show. I think I would agree with the "leave your tow rig alone" philosophy. Buy another Nissan XD Cummins and make it a dually. Either one would sell fast if you decided you didn't need both.

I just watched an engine tear down of a 5.0 Cummins. Broken crank shaft. I have a sneaking suspicion the previous owner had opted for the aftermarket performance mod.
I have heard the same...but have had zero issues with mine...I honestly thin a lot of the people who have problems are those that have never owned a diesel before...and don't understand the maintenance needed.
@@BigTireGarage The thing about the emissions stuff, if the diesel is used as it’s designed (High mileage of mostly towing on the highway) then the emissions work as intended. People that daily them around town or for instance, a fire truck… the emissions is absolutely horrible and needs to go because you don’t get the soot burned out appropriately.
Maybe not a ramp truck, but stretched Titan with a bare bones ladder frame (Moveable/removable wheel supports) to hold tires of a rig would be cool. Maybe a narrower chassis cable dually axel to keep the truck more usable as a daily would be cool also.
Love your detailed review of the XD! I subscribed bc you advocate for NOT deleting diesels, GAWD do I hate deleted trucks, IMO they ruin customization for everyone.
I'm right there with you. It seems like everyone advocates for deleting their diesels and "rolling coal". They don't realize that is a horrible practice (or they don't care)
I really like the idea of the titan XD with the 5.0 Cummins i just have reservations buecasue of their short production run makes me nervous. But seems to have better longevity then say a ford 6.4.
I have had very good luck with mine....but I would not suggest anyone buy one....with the truck being "killed" by Nissan, and the limited run... it does make me nervous sometimes but I know peeps at Cummins so I feel OK with it.....but this truck honestly at this point owes me nothing so I will drive it till the wheels fall off

Surprise..... they're bringing the truck back and they're bringing the diesel back for 24 or 25 model year. I have a 20 XD and it is the best truck I've ever owned not to mention the best warranty in the industry. Now hopefully Nissan can do a good marketing campaign if they're really going to try and carve a little bit of market share out

Ha! My buddy superchargered his 5.7 Tundra. Then he had to build the trans. Then he blew the motor and had one built to handle the boost. He told me that he "thinks he unToyota'd his Toyota". You don't say...
I thought the Mopar was dumb to drop the 5.0 Cummins and go with the 3.0 eco diesel. The eco diesel has a big flaw in it design. The high pressure pump uses a friction disk to connect to the cam, and when that wears out it bends valves and usually needs a long block to repair.

My favorite cutting method is a plasma cutter with grinder clean up if needed & my least favorite is the sawzall because I'm old & don't like having my hands shaken to shart. I'm not a shiny wheel guy either & I'm with you on leaving the tow rig as mechanically stock as possible. How old were you when you knew you were a Gear Head?
@@BigTireGarage titan.. here in aus, we do 5 - 10 th k, oil changes, depends on oil quality, how you drive..synthitic oil, uuugggg,, every 3-5 k..its rubbish.. i drive an 01, s/duty, 4.2tdi. mwm. not sold in u.s. but built in brazil.. german diesel. mine puts out 700nm..no fkn computer.. thank fk.. if we got half the trucks you have in the u.s.,, toyotas would be dead.. we dont even have the tacoma.. fkn sad country.. they all run around in 4 banger turbo.s.. the titan would of sold like hot cakes.. [ i want a dodge power wagon, but not sold here ].
Negative on the ramp truck! I think a custom built skirted flat bed with a nice headache rack dually Titan and get yourself a gooseneck to tow if you want to tow more
I NEED HELP!! what could you recommend to seperate clutch and brake pedals So my foot won't get stuck in between them? Lss. I had a stroke and without looking at it,I'm not sure where my foot is to hit clutch pedal.i tried wide pedal. Thinking about hand clutch but not sure how to. You can't go wrong with JE Reel...tell Jim I sent ya....Another good option is the Yukon Heavy Duty replacements as well. You should be able to simply order both for your JK, and also get rid of the high speed CV Joints at the same time.

Trucks are crazy expensive right now but if you had to have a new tow rig what would you go with? Ram 2500 Cummins? Ford 7.3 Godzilla? Power Wagon with air bags so your tow rig could recover your trail rig? Build something from scratch?
Factory gooseneck on every XD except the S model. I have an ‘18 Midnight Edition and haul a 36’ enclosed gooseneck every week. By the way, if you haven’t seen it yet, Z1 OffRoad built a pretty bad to the bone Dually XD Cummins a few years back. Love the channel! Cheers! Mark -

We have an '18 Midnight Edition that we haul our 36' Enclosed Gooseneck Car Hauler with every week! Average load is 10k lbs. to 14klbs. for the loaded trailer. We've been very impressed with the truck's stability, braking, and comfort. The 5.0 Cummins and Aisin transmission combo in a Class 2B truck is exactly why we decided to purchase it over another 3/4 ton Ram. It has been exceptional so far, for 5 straight years! Cheers!
The Titan was rated only a couple thousand pounds more than most half tons, and came in at LEAST 5000lbs UNDER a comparable Dodge/Ford 3/4. It came late to the college party, was the only high schooler, and barely outdid (BARELY) middle schoolers. And wondered why it couldn’t get a date.

I spoke with Nissan techs that said the 5.0L Cummins in the Titan locked and they had several engines with problems. What is your thoughts on that?

When running 3 link w/ panhard, do you prefer a longer...equal, or shorter length upper link? Lots of debate online about it. Curious what you think.

Factory gooseneck on every XD except the S model. I have an ‘18 Midnight Edition and haul a 36’ enclosed gooseneck every week. By the way, if you haven’t seen it yet, Z1 OffRoad built a pretty bad to the bone Dually XD Cummins a few years back.

I semi seriously looked at the Cummins 5.0 as a swap engine. But it appears nobody has figured out the controls yet?
No they have not.....I was able to get one running in my buddy Kevin's C10....but it was a huge ordeal

We have an '18 Midnight Edition that we haul our 36' Enclosed Gooseneck Car Hauler with every week! Average load is 10k lbs. to 14klbs. for the loaded trailer. We've been very impressed with the truck's stability, braking, and comfort. The 5.0 Cummins and Aisin transmission combo in a Class 2B truck is exactly why we decided to purchase it over another 3/4 ton Ram. It has been exceptional so far, for 5 straight years! Cheers!

The Titan was rated only a couple thousand pounds more than most half tons, and came in at LEAST 5000lbs UNDER a comparable Dodge/Ford 3/4. It came late to the college party, was the only high schooler, and barely outdid (BARELY) middle schoolers. And wondered why it couldn’t get a date.
My favorite way to cut metal is 1/8 6010, 300 amps, and an air compressor 🤣

At 210K miles I needed a turbo actuator...not a big deal IMO considering the mileage
Just had a Nissan Cummins come into the shop. Cp4 failure. 10,000 just for injectors from Nissan!!!!!!
