    Capt. Tom thank you for a First Class presentation! I'm a landlubber but I've always been interested in the mariners laws and regulations. You have pretty much explained and satisfied my curiosities. Now I think I'm hooked!

    Probably one of your best videos yet! I remember asking you about making this video, so I personally thank you. I'm a self-teacher for many things; but for something like this, I'd much prefer to have a classroom environment for all the reasons you gave. Well done. C & G.

    Well, first I will say congratulations on acquiring your license. Lots of nice comments. It is a lot different now, than when I got my first license 55 years ago. Hope you can use and enjoy your license.

    Great video, Tom. I earned my 50-ton inland Masters license when I was living in New York. Spent time at Shady Harbor Marina. My goal, when I moved to Florida in 2002, was to get some work to supplement my retirement income. I found the "everybody" has at least a 6-pack. Tough gig. Good luck.

    Amazing. I have a home and boat in Cape Coral. I have a ton of boating experience and always wanted to get my captains license. This video couldn’t have been more informative. Currently a snowbird, but would welcome the opportunity to meet up with you when I get down for the winter. Fun fact, I have owned (amongst others) a crown line, regal and meridian. I believe those are brands you have experience with. Currently running a 32 pursuit.

    I would imagine you would need liability insurance if taking paying passengers in your own boat and I would think it would not be cheap.
    I agree taking the course in a classroom is the way to go.
    I live in Canada and have taken Boat Safety and Basic Navigation with the Canadian Power Squadron.

    lots of great info and the quality of the content is excellent ; I tend to be critical with comments so apologies up front. The last thing we need is more paper captains delivering boats or even being on the water with a license ... To many novices or under qualified Captains doing it. To many Master Captains that aren't properly trained in seamanship on the water. From my View 50% of the delivery and captains in general for hire are under qualified for the work they do on the water. a license
    Last comment , don't get a license unless you're going to use it for pay... if you have an incident on the water you MAY be held to a higher standard.

    Fantastic video Captain Tom, very educational!
    I've an RYA Skippers licence, they're CE approved, you have to have them in Europe really. They do it by length not weight, so it licences me up to 75ft. I prefer the U.S system as boats can vary massively in that size range. Going to get some training at Cape Coral, at least up to 6 pack (Be the only 6 pack i'll ever posess! Lol 😂)
    Thanks again 👏👏

    Isn't the line of demarcation the state/federal boundary, so on the Gulf, if you're within 9nm, it's still considered inland waters, which unless you do a bunch of longer offshore trips in federal waters, it's more difficult to clock the near coastal water days.

    • @AdventuresofHappyOurs
      @AdventuresofHappyOurs  12 часов назад

      Demarcation line between ocean and inland is a line drawn between the banks of an inlet or anything off the seaward beach.

    • @winstonsmith4003
      @winstonsmith4003 11 часов назад +1

      Is that true when logging sea hours for the 360/90 days for the 6 pack for purposes of obtaining near coastal? That’s been my understanding and I’m not saying I’m correct. In fact, I’d like to be wrong because living on the Gulf coast I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to get a near coastal if my understanding is correct.

    • @AdventuresofHappyOurs
      @AdventuresofHappyOurs  9 часов назад

      @winstonsmith4003 yes the demarcation line is for near coastal. If you boat 100’ off the ocean/gulf beaches, you are in near coastal waters.

    One item not discussed. There can be personal liability concerns when driving a boat for hire and you (for example) sink a Tiki Piss Barge with passengers on board.

    • @AdventuresofHappyOurs

      Liability for sure. Luckily insurance available out there to cover you.

    What would you suggest for someone who doesn't want to be an official captain, but wants to learn how to be professional and safe while recreational boating?
    This would including the charts, the "rules of the road", etc. Also, things like transits from FL to Bahamas, up and down the coast, etc.

    • @AdventuresofHappyOurs
      @AdventuresofHappyOurs  3 дня назад +2

      Most local boating clubs offer good classes like the power squadron, coast guard auxiliary. BoatUS offers a good online training to get you started for free. Plus you can get your boater safety certificate.

    $500 per day is accurate but that’s contract work and not steady, whereas $25hr is full time. Look at boatsetter captain rates that’s about industry standard for the area.

    • @AdventuresofHappyOurs
      @AdventuresofHappyOurs  3 дня назад +1

      Funny how Anchorrides sets rates at $75/hr but Boatsetter allows various rates set by boat owner. I usually do $50-$75/hr for recreational boats.

    • @AdventuresofHappyOurs
      @AdventuresofHappyOurs  3 дня назад +1

      Rate goes down with a captain license. BoatUS/Geico lowered it once I obtained mine.

    • @briancummings9122
      @briancummings9122 3 дня назад +1

      @ :
      When I got mine some 40 years ago the rates went up. I was told because now I was able to take passengers for hire my liability was higher. I did not use Boat US but after several years I did and with towing my rate was equal. Anyway congratulations enjoy

    • @AdventuresofHappyOurs
      @AdventuresofHappyOurs  3 дня назад

      @briancummings9122 oh yes in that case the rate is higher if you have to pay for a charter endorsement. It was about $200/year more with BoatUs/Geico. They now don’t insure charters over 30’. So I’m forced to go to another company. But they do reduce it about $50/year if you have a captains license.
