Couldn't agree more. On top of our society's many sins, we always add one more: lying. Pretending we're still somewhat religious when we aren't. I think everyone would be better off if those who don't believe just said so, and saying you were a Catholic actually meant something.

I think all of our countries have fallen. I don't know there's any turning this around outside of Divine intervention. That's why so many nuns and priests are calling for repentance and a return to a state of grace. I saw today in the news Taiwan preparing for war against China and North Korea firing nuclear missiles near Guam and Phillipines. I agree with the question Putin proposed, as to whether you are on the side of lgbt, (and everything that goes with it) or the other side, weak not unified hated and the minority. A return to grace and prayers is our only salvation. 🕊

Agree 100,000%. Abolished the sham fake so-called St.Patricks Day festival. Once they festivalised it some years ago, that, for me, was the tin hat on it. I remember a time of youth when the adults would wear a large cluster of shamrock on their clothing, and we children, would have special St.Patricks Day cloth badges pinned to our clothing, as we attended mass. There after there was the parade in town. That was it. The spiritual aspect took precedence; the parade second place, and that was it. Done and dusted. Now, it's simply a vulgar profits engine, or at least in normal times that is what it had become.
Thanks Fr.Brendan. You are truly spot on, on this one. God bless you and the Imaculata Team - 🙏🙏

God Bless you Father, I've being saying that for years, growing up in the 1970's while I love Saint Patrick the nonsense even then annoyed me. Everybody wants to be Irish on the 17th of March, it's the day the "Irish" say "top of the mornin" it's the day leprechauns become real and every "Irish" idiot dons a red wig while holding a pint of the black stuff. The Americanism is OTT as the yanks wish the Irish "Happy St. Patties day - who the hell is Pattie? Saint Patrick has become a cartoon on his own feast day in Ireland and everywhere else, this year 2022 the "Symbol" for the pagan parade is the serpent - a colorful slider in green, white, orange, blue & yellow - I don't remember the last 2 colours ever being on our national flag. The Irish Catholic has always been ridiculed, it started with the invaders on our right and it continued with the new world bumpkins on our left and the majority of the Irish in this country love it as the shamrock has become a four leafed clover and a symbol of luck. Sadly there are only a few of us left, real Catholics and real Irish in the country once known as the land of Saints & Scholars, but we cannot give up hope. Wishing you and yours a very happy and holy Saint Patrick's day. ✝🙏☘

Well said. When we were children the emphasise was on going to Mass first and foremost and afterwards attending the local parade. Like everything else Saint Patrick's Day has been hijacked. There's even a poster advertising some cabaret event using what is supposed to be Saint Patrick's head on the body of a woman, disgusting. Ireland needs a mass exorcism.

My son Patrick was due on March 17, thirty two years ago, and I had him induced so he wouldn’t be born on St. Paddy’s and end up an alcoholic. He’s spent his whole life in Washington DC and it’s the main thing he’s grateful for-not being a St. Paddy’s baby. He hates the whole thing. It killed his Catholic identity.

I'm sorry to hear that St. Patrick's Day has become this. When I lived in Northern Ireland, pre 1994, St. Patrick's Day was a Holy Day and we all went to church. Right enough, it did give the Catholics a "day off Lent" because it was a Holy Day. But I've always felt proud to tell Americans that Ireland treated ST. Patrick's Day as a day to go to Mass.

    Thank you, Fr Brendan.
We have a similar problem here in the UK on St George's Day, St Andrew's Day and St David's Day.
The bigger question bothering me, when it comes to celebrating Christian festivals with integrity, is what do we do about Christmas and Easter, and Hallowe'en for that matter? I'd love to see an episode on that.
If secularists want to celebrate winterval with lights and springtime with bunnies, and Hallowe'en with spiders and ghouls, pushing out Christ and the Mass altogether, what should we do about that? Should we ask them to set up their own replacement festivals, under a different name, or should we use the opportunity to help them see the deeper Christian meaning?

One of the best videos so far (among a collection of thoughtful n excellent reflections) Why doesn't the Shtate make micky d higgins' birthday their National Day, an idea borrowed from the Mainland and use the lgbtqrstuvwxyz flag, instead of OUR tricolour. I was thinking of going to Slane this St Patrick's Day but I noticed that Bsp denehan will be there so I'll pass on that one. i am not keen on his most rev excellency, holiness, emimence ( there I just broke my lenten promise!!!) or any of the bishops. Would have being nice to grow up in a place where Priests and Bishops lead, a procession and there were carrying Our Lady, and hymns and prayers, and on St Patrick day, carrying statute of St Patrick and prayers and hymns, etc, like I used to see om TV, done in other countries as a child.

So, I'm not Irish but rather my family was Scots with Irish names mingled with the Scottish throughout the centuries and mother a Scots/Irish Protestant (Glasgow) and a Scots/French Catholic father. I was baptized Catholic behind my mother's back. In the States, I didn't feel St. Patrick's was for me. I don't drink. And no one looked like me who was at the Parade. One day, I put on my long tartan skirt and went to the Catholic church, which is mainly Hispanic, Asian and African. The priest is German American, and he talked about living in Ireland for some years and because it was St. Patrick's (I didn't know) he was going to talk about St. Patrick and that was because the church wouldn't be the church without the Irish. No Irish at this church. I didn't know a thing about St. Patrick. Because of the priest, I immediately ordered the writings of St. Patrick. It was amazing. I told the priest that now St. Patrick's Day was wonderful to me, and I would annoy the neighbors by putting something religious on the door for St. Patrick's rather than the leprechaun. Now, St. Michael and St. Patrick are the saints I like. Why have this awful parade when you have St. Patrick and you know who he was and how he affected Ireland. I had no idea who he was and about his story.
PS I have an English/Scots accent, and the American Irish hated me calling me an English person. I didn't bother correcting them. But it didn't help me like the Irish Parade either. So everyone in the US is Irish that day except me with my accent. Strange how blessings come to you.

Lots of soldiers pray they will be guards under the Archangel Michael as their role in Heaven. Certainly some in the Old Testament were very salty. A lot of Saints have been too. St. Jerome could be very provocative and St. Athanasius once slapped the heretic bishop Arius very hard in front of a very large church congregation of notable people at a Council. This was mild.
