Brilliant car. My wife chose one 1.0 R-Line Ascot grey over the T-Roc and I have to say it's been fantastic the interior is much better than the T-Roc (all plastic cheap) the dash top is soft touch in the Taigo the cabin is top notch and right up there with my daily a 21 plate Octavia estate. The engine we have is the 110ps and it's more than up to the job and cruises well on the motorway. Seems like a lot of people in the comments have VW envy 😁
Just purchased the very model you have driven, traded in a 3 year old 2lit TRoc R Line. The new TAIGO is absolutely brilliant and fills all my needs admirably, quick if you need it, a delight to drive. I enjoyed your take on it very much 😇
Internal height is very tight, I can very easily bang my head whilst leaning across for say the glove compartment, not as generous as the T Roc. I do agree it is a downgrade, many of the standard extras are missing even though it is an R Line. I should have kept my T Roc 😎
I think they have to be some of the worst fake exhausts I've seen... Anyway, another great video as always, Tish. I cant believe its taken this long for VW to give you a press car, especially considering the following you've got and the praise you've given them in the past!
Thanks James! They have been a tough cookie to crack but also to be fair to them, I have had access to VW via other routes, so never pushed them too hard on it. Still, very proud!
Another well balanced review Tish. There does seem to be some pretty good standard kit on this car but my head is still trying to get around the in thing coupe fashion. An SUV should be practical so why reduce it by sloping that rear. I also do not like those touch controls that VW is pushing us to use and as you say accidentally cooking ones bottom on a hot day would not be pleasant. It's not a car for me right now but I can appreciate that it could be an attractive option for many.
I also reviewed the Volkswagen Taigo in my channel, I can confirm it's more interesting than other crossovers by VW, but the equipment list is small for its price
Hi. I did look at the new Taigo but decided on the t-cross due to more space. Plus it's cheaper not sure why. We have the 110ps manual. Nice car but clutch bit grabby. Good review thanks. David
Just traded in my t cross r line black pack for a Tiago r line black pack. Love it for run round for the kids. Will be getting a golf next. Love VW cars.
What is a press car exactly? Do you get a car free of charge from VW, like a gift? If this is your first press car, where did all the cars you previously reviewed come from?
Volkswagen have a fleet of 'press cars' which they will send to people to create reviews and content on for a week at a time. Previous VW cars have been from local dealers and other cars are a mix of press cars (VW have been particularly hard to get on board.)
Base model 95 horse is a manual 5 speed not a 6 speed . 1.5 TSi is an active cylinder model so if you drive it carefully it isn’t a juicy as you suggest.
Nice looking car would lease one if it didn't have a manual handbrake. Last two cars both electronic, couldn't go backwards. Nice review...Good to see cars we actually may want to buy, not continuous drag races or Bentley's...
Great point! I didn't have too many problems with the Tiago but I had a Vivaro van this weekend and kept leaving it on! As long as they have auto-hold, electric handbrake every time!
Well, first of all i do bought a Taigo, but not the R line, the Style because it has more equipment than the R line, and i do choose the 1.5 liter engine coming from a golf with a 3 cylinder 110hp i always find it slow to respond and noisy when you put your foot on the floor, the whole software problems on the golf mk 8 achieve to convince me to go for the Taigo (and also the delivery delay for a golf, if i ordered it in january, i should had wait until november or 2023 to get one, the Taigo is "only" 9 month of waiting).
well done Tish a great review which landed as i followed one of these the other day in a striking green colour and wondered what it was! if it will be a success time will tell but i think it’s too close to the t roc and t cross and maybe volkswagen could have invested more into those models i agree with you about the fake exhausts my t roc has them and i don’t see the point i have often wondered if volkswagen have too many suv’s but having got used to the higher driving position after a succession of golfs i can see why people like them and there is a good spec on offer but as with any volkswagen any options soon rapidly increase the price!
Good review, you can get the front lightbar, it's on the style trim with the iq lights , don't like all that hard plastic inside either , t roc is now a bit better has they've improved that side of things .
@@AutoSocialUK this has come from carwow, seems the configuration is down at the moment and no download of brochure / pricelist - High-spec Volkswagen Taigo Style models come as standard with a full-width LED light bar in the front grille.
Yaris cross hybrid best in class small suv. Vw cars been ok but they does not have a simple reliable drive trains now over a decade, if you thinking of owning the car for 3 years buy any but if you are planning to keep it longer just buy Toyota
@@AutoSocialUK indeed and they seems to realise that and their prices are sky high. Pretty much all cars are extremely expensive at the moment unfortunately. Like your reviews, keep up the good work 👌 Thank you
Don't like the look of that spare wheel in the boot 🤣. Seriously it looks good from the front in R line spec. It looks better in this grey than it does on the current VW TV advert ( red I think ). Wouldn't mind seeing it in the metal as they say. It is yet another SUV though
Not a fan of this vehicle at all, also your point on fake exhausts is spot on. Too many car manufacturers are doing this, heaven knows why. For you Tish, as always excellent review with superb knowledge. 🙏🙏
No equivalent VW model over here on this side of The Pond. I do like these smaller SUVs and cars and it's a pity the "numbers" in the market here does not appreciate them. Of course, in Texas distances (and commutes) are long. However, if gas (petrol to you!)prices reman high it might create a market. BMW still sells the MINI here, through its Mini Dealership network, but in declining numbers, sadly. On a different note, VW has de-contented its US cars that are mostly built right here to keep prices down, but that has resulted in the loss of that German cachet, and of course, a cheaped-out interior and plainer exterior. I guess their analysis of the market tells them Americans prefer such vehicles. Personally, I dont. Nice review, as always -- detailed and useful.
I see that they are sold in Mexico though, where it's called the Nivus. The T-Cross (built on the same platform) is also sold in Mexico, but not the United States.
Aka the Nivus in Brazil, Mexico and other Latin American countries. Not a fan of Coupé SUVs, cos the rear headroom is quite compromised. I was in a Toyota CHR the other day, and when I was in the back, I couldn’t quite fit in the back quite well. Plus, they have less trunk space than a normal SUV and they tend to cost more than the equivalent normal SUV, so I would stay away from all Coupé SUVs.
What’s with the rubbish style alloy wheels vw now fit to the r lines. I don’t want to pay around a £1000 to upgrade to better alloys just to make the r line look like it should do. As always, a great review👍👍
This will surely be a total failure for Volkswagen I mean they are bringing a car in a market that is already saturated by crossovers and SUV I don't see where it stands. I mean seriously cars at VW are already competing amongst themselves. The pricing is also a problem people can get a lot better else where.
I don't think it does enough for the money. 26k is absolute tip-top money in this sector and this just runs with the pack without being outstanding anywhere. Even the usually ebullient tish seems a bit lukewarm on it.
Stylish looks on a VW lol no. It looks a mess. That chrome bar at the front on the grill and the way the lights are to it just does not work at all. So many SUV options by VW and not a bit of style or effort put into any of them.
Incredibly gorgeous in that outfit, Tish (my favorite one so far!). You're absolutely beautiful and your knowledge of automobiles is even sexier. :) Bravo to you, my lovely friend. (hugs the gorgeous lady in appreciation) #tishchattenautogoddess
@@AutoSocialUK does that make you biased to Volkswagen in your reviews? I would like to think when you are comparing two cars that you don't let your love for Vw make the reviews one sided as vw definitely aren't the best at everything, I have had the unfortunate ownership of a T6 to teach me a lesson, beautiful looking van but reliability has been truly awful, DSG gearbox, injectors, fuel pump,,side door fell off runners, immobiliser fault.
This car seems rather pointless. The Polo always sold strongly. I wonder why VW felt the UK, and other markets, needed this odd looking Polo derivative? I completely get the T Cross, but this one? No thanks. It looks exactly like what it actually is, which is one of these odd cobbled up VW's for another market somewhere....
Tiguan and Touareg were enough. Taigo is made in Pamplona, not Germany. Badges, spoilers and light bars are irrelevant to driving. These plasticky vw cars are boring. I had an old German-made vw bora - 250,000 miles from new and it was still very far from boring.
As James May would say: The news. There is now a car that is more boring than a VW and its called the Honda Civic the latest model. Can not wait to see your review on that very dull car. If Honda keep going the way they are they will soon take the trophy for most boring cars from VW or maybe they might have to share it.
Awful, just awful. Horrendous car - just so VW. Acres of plastic and a lazy design. You can see that very little thought went into this 'by the numbers' production car. Seems a bit of a con sticking an 'R' badge on something with a 1l Polo engine too. VW are sacrificing quality across the board now. Good review again though.
