  • In this long video, I travel up into Pennslyvania with Mike to meet up with our friends Jill, Billie Jean, and others to metal-detect an old farm. This is Jill's permission and in the past few visits to the site she had discovered, with her metal detector, several really nice Civil War-era relics including a silver quarter, Maine State Militia button, and U.S. bit boss as well as many more coins and other artifacts. On this trip, she takes the finds up a notch.
    About Aquachigger:
I enjoy metal detecting for historical items like gold coins, relics, silver coins, and other buried treasures. I also metal detect for gold and silver nuggets and even meteorites. I like to make videos that promote my choice of lifestyle that includes outdoor adventure,
metal detecting, yapping, searching for river treasure, SCUBA diving, exploring abandoned places, hiking, caving, caring for animals and pets, and observing the things outdoors that often go unnoticed by most people who are not familiar with outdoor adventures and nature. I keep my RUclips "Aquachigger" channel family-friendly and hope you subscribe if you like my style.
BTW, you can also catch me here, / chiggsarmy ,but I may get a little edgier there. FB isn't a place for kids anyway...lol.

This was a fun day of metal detecting. We found a ton of neat artifacts including many silver coins. The artifact that Jill finds at 7:07 is A Civil War-era wreath portion of a two-piece sword belt rig. She did not find the tongue portion that would have allowed for the identification of the exact rig she found. It could be one of many types to include either Federal, State or Confederate issue. It is a wonderful find and I hope the other half turns up one day. Neither Jill nor Billie Jean has RUclips channels, but you can check out Mike's RUclips here:.www.youtube.com/@gr8finds196/videos

Soooo my wife and I were detecting around my families 140 year old house . And got a major hit right next to the 80-100 year old Ponderosa pine just to the side of the house. So we dig, and find a root about 8” in diameter . The signal is directly under it !! WE’RE ON IT !!! We start working around ,and under the root when WHACK! Ooops I hit it. It’s Cast iron ,and wedged tight under the root. An iron lock box full of GOOOOLDD ?? A canon ball ? WOOHOO!! So I dig next to it 8”-10”-14” it just keeps going. Time to dig the other side. Down ,and down ,and down some more !!!🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
We found an 8-10” Iron riser pipe for an old septic tank !!!!
Oh well , maybe next time .. 😂😂😂

The brass cap you found is the tip for a drop heel buggy shaft. When the horse was removed from the carriage the tip of the buggy shaft was on the ground, a brass cap was on the tip to protect the shaft from wear'. It is not part of a buggy break.

    Gratz on the silver
You should know that you have found two buggy breaks. They would be attached to the ends of the wooden arms that go on either side of the horse. When they would uncouple the horse these arms would contact the ground and needed to be protected.

Judging by the age of items found here, that two piece buckle could have been from a police two piece buckle. They were around mid 1800's to early 1900's. Maybe even later. Although you said that a Maine button was found? who knows. But you got some silver so it was a good day!

Lots of good relics on your hunt. You are correct, the so called "flag pole" tips are indeed horse buggy arm tips. They are always flat on one side because each time the horse is unhooked from the buggy, the arms sit on the ground until the buggy is used again. Good hunting.
