Electric Subaru Solterra driven!

- The Subaru Solterra is much more than just a new electric SUV, it also marks the next stage of the company's evolution. Like the rest of the motor industry, this Japanese car brand famous for off-roaders and four-wheel drive rally cars has to move with the times, and the Solterra is the firm's first all-electric offering.
Thanks to a joint development project between the two companies, the Solterra shares its internals with the Toyota BZ4X, although while that car is available with front- or four-wheel drive, the Solterra - in true Subaru tradition - is all-wheel drive only. Two electric motors provide 215bhp, and the car has an official WLTP range of up to 289 miles.
And the Solterra is new. We mean REEEEEALLY new. So new, in fact, that when we asked Subaru UK when we might be able to review it, they told us it'd be around four months away. Now, we weren't going to settle for that, and such is our commitment to bringing you the latest car reviews as quickly as we can, we tracked down one of the first dealer demonstrators in the country, located at West Heath Garage in Farnborough, Hampshire. Huge thanks to them for lending us the car, and if you plan on buying a Subaru in London and the South East, these are the guys to see. Visit www.westheath.co.uk or call them on 01252 541294.

Did the designer work for ford, Mach e ring a bell 🤔
This and the sibling Toyota Bz4x are extremely power hungry as soon as you turn the heating on. There have been tests here in Norway where the reviewers only managed to get between 263 to 288km on this cars! This is e-Golf territory!! I was so lucky to drive one of this pretty early and they are good to drive, nice to look at but with this range they surly are not value for money.
Prices from just under £50k - how can people afford these sort of prices? With the cost of electricity rising the case for these electric cars over conventional, petrol/diesel cars, gets smaller by the day when I can get a nice one for around £20-25k .
Probably only the option in that price range would be an MG4, apparently it’s pretty good!

I took delivery of my Solterra a couple of weeks back. I’ve had nearly every model of Subaru over many years from petrol to diesel so I decided to give the Solterra a try as I’m not getting any younger and this could be my last chance. Just wanted to explain about the regeneration breaking and one pedal driving. There are various strengths of regeneration which you control using the paddles on the steering wheel and they do effect the acceleration a little but you can switch them off and then the car drives normally. One pedal driving in town is excellent but it only slows the car to a slow creep then you break as normal as required. There are 3 driving modes normal, Ecco and sport . In my opinion this is a great car to drive but it not going to be for everyone as no car is.
Still got my 2005 outback if I wanted a Toyota I would buy one come on Subaru is this the best you can come up with give me the turbo petrol outback and keep your Toyota
£50 k for that is crazy!
Blame the price on your heavily taxing government. I purchased my Solterra (deposit now reserved) the price for the Luxury theCanadian name for the middle a trim level 12.3 screen NO moonroof.
The cost with freight / prep 60,900 Canadian dollars which is 38,000 pounds or $45,000 US or 42,300 Euros.
So go figure Subaru Solterra is less expensive for the exact same model in Canada.
We have federal and provincial sales taxes to add to that amount in total to 12%.
Had a Subaru Impreza P1 back in 2001, I could cry seeing this guff they are making these days.
"As you can see.." not really mate, it's all dark 😞 I know you probably don't have CarWow budget, but more light is really needed
How much?? OMG.
40k-52k ish USD
These got recalled in the US because their wheels could come off while driving 😆
Toyota BZ4X*
I switched off at £50k.
Cables going under the boot floor is such a crap place to put them.
That delayed acceleration betrays its Toyota DNA
I can see some mach-e at the front
And mg at the back
Range? Consumption? Battery capacity? Did I miss those?
Was thinking the same...
The review did point out at 1:29 that the 'official' range is 257 - 289 miles. However, I didn't spot what the test/actual range is! As for boot capacity, he mentions it at 1:59, which is 441 litres.
@@Kelveron It would have been good to cover actual range, seeing as the tests in Norway are stating it can barely reach 190miles.
indeed since all these are the main weaknesses, this car is barely useable on long trip due to the combination of much lower real range than it’s official data coupled with much slower charging speed. I would not be surprised to see some upgrades coming as they just did on the Lexus UX EV
I have noticed Tesla is overrated horrible shitshow.
Considering this and MB EQB as my next car. Good review
Sorry sir but “if that thing” look like Toyota.. sounds like Toyota …without any charm.. like Toyota..yeah that a Toyota
Like the overall car but .. moonroof that doesn’t open, aggressive black plastic cladding and limited range compared to other EVs .. are almost no-go’s .. (‘22 OBL owner)
Most EVs don’t have moon/sun roofs that open due to aerodynamics…
@@Aestheticslily Oh. I didn’t know. Thanks!
"Almost no go's". No this first gen is a no go.
Those plastic wheel arches are so ugly, it’s just a Toyota with a different badge
Total squib
No one GAF
This is complete garbage and don't know why you are deleting my link about the problem with this car and Toyota equivalent?
"Disappointing’ 134-Mile BZX4 Achieves Half The Advertised Range In Danish Test, Toyota Investigating"
Toyota are clueless about EVs and it shows. And it's sad that Subaru was basically forced to adopt Toyota's effort rather than being able to develop their own. This is a middling effort. Overpriced, range too short, odd driving position, poor cable storage, poor charging speed. Ten years ago this might have been OK. In today's market it's bottom of class and demand for them will be small.
Hopefully, when Subaru get to make their own, it will be far better.
17 yrs. with the brand. All we drive in our household. The Solterra is a failure and it hasn't even been released. 220 mile range, last generation charging. I not giving up on the brand, but passing on this first gen with certainty.
It's not a Subaru car.
Bye bye Tesla 👍👍🙂🙂
Rubbish expensive toyota
Totally useless review. No real world information on charging stats. range or efficiency. and what about its off road capability. This is the strength of the Subaru. Though got to give him credit where its due as he did tell us about the small scratchy piece of plastic in the boot.
Could yell it was a Japanese car as soon as the presenter started speaking. Out of sinc voice, like watching a Japanese B movie.
As for the vehicle, nice, but very expensive for what you get. Would I consider it. NO !
OMG. B-Zed-4-X garbage. Definitely not a Subaru….. tsk tsk
