I am so saddened to hear of the passing of Phyllis. Such wonderful energy as captured in my film made so long ago. Positive energy. Always enjoying her life. I'm sure she was a great mom and grandmom. I wish her family well. From a far distance physically and in terms of time, all of us who made this movie remember her with great fondness. David Hoffman-filmmaker
I waltched this in school and i loved it so 1 day i want to do duble dutching so good job at that it was really impresive.Oh and by the way i go to sping forge intemediant school in mout wolf, =^-^=
This video was 11 years ago and I watch it every day Phyllis Goggins was my mom and she passed away 5 years ago this is one of the videos me and my family watch often to remind us of her greatness and the legacy she created. Thank you whoever you are for sharing this with the world ❤️
I remember your mother very well. I brought her and the other girls to my town in Camden Maine where they performed. She was a wonderful character and I am pleased that you can enjoy the movie I made of her so many years ago. Best regards David Hoffman - filmmaker
Hi Briana. Greetings from Wales uk. I found this film after viewing Malcolm Mclarens double dutch video. So sorry for your loss. Your mom was incredible on the ropes. I could hardly believe my eyes. The speed and athleticism. What a role model to others.
God bless you baby girl. Your Mom was a trooper. I remember when they combined the team with Jumping Magic and jumped with Robette and them. So saddened to hear of her passing. God bless you all.
I just watched this movie with my own daughter...a child of the 70's and 80's from New Jersey. I remember hours and hours of jumping on the playground. I am now a high school teacher and often share vintage videos with my students on the way things "use to be"...when young people still enjoyed the pleasures of being young. I pray all of the young women pictured are doing well and have lived out many of their dreams. Thank you for a daily dose of inspiration.
You are welcome Jacquie. Thank you for your comment and for your help for those girls. Though I have not been in touch with them, I hope they got to live three-dimensionally wonderful lives. David Hoffman-filmmaker
Good to make your acquaintance. My daughter Jeanne and I had a deep fondness for Phyllis and always hoped she would do okay. Please send her our best wishes. David Hoffman-filmmaker
Thank you for saying that, because we rarely get the credit we deserve. That’s why it’s important to say it or write it. We know that Rap started in the inner cities with Blacks, but somebody else said they started it. That’s why it’s important to past on facts for history. And, we know our style of Black Gospel Singing/Music started with our ancestors singing spirituals to God and signaling to each other trying to escape Slavery. God gave Spirituals to the Slaves first. So, what you said is correct regarding Dutch Jump Rope, because a few years from now, someone who likes it might say, they don’t have any information about where it came from. The same is happening on Tic Toc with some dance moves, if nobody says anything, somebody WILL come along and take credit for it!🤓
Hello Mr Hoffman - I am from Maine and have come across thousands of 16mm footage of what i think is this " Black Magic " Double Dutch team . It is all still on cores , never run thru a projector . Question : if this film was produced in the 1980`s why was it on 16mm stock ? also , could I have a copy or might this be the original film ? thanks , stephen
Sorry to write such sad news. our community has lost Phyllis Goggins on 9/10/15. she will be forever missed . Tina Chandler-wood from Hartford Connecticut 😢
+Marietta Chandler-wood I'm very sorry to hear that sad news. My thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones, may you find comfort during this difficult time.
+Megan Mack First I'm female. Not a bruh. Second. I don't care how long ago it was when you posted that comment, which was actually almost two years ago. Third don't try to compare your jumping with someone else's that you actually have no proof of, and forth. Try to beat Phyllis's record of 339 in 2 mins, and post it on RUclips. Now that will be impressive.
I used to show the video "Black Magic" to my elementary school classes every year because it was so full of good messages. My students loved it. I was disappointed when my library got rid of it when they switched to DVDs.
sadly, jump rope or double dutch has never been in the Olympics. but we are currently in the process of making jump rope an Olympic sport. It should be in the Olympics by the year of 2020
Good to hear from you. Many years ago, when I was leaving Maine, I left many of the original footage in 16mm (not the finished films) with an assistant and never heard from him again. I never knew what happened to the footage to that film and many other films I made at that time. The original 16mm negative to my films has since been destroyed in a fire in 2008. please communicate with me via e-mail so I can find out more. I am happy to get you a copy of the DVD. allinaday@aol.com
I work for the USDA on our lunch break every night we jump double Dutch, this is me (I jump fast) and my co workers jump regular 🤷🏽♀️ I told them this was me 😩
+likeaboss528 - Can you pass me to any RUclips video where someone jumps more jumps into minutes then Phyllis did? I'd like to see it. David Hoffman-filmmaker
There is a video called Double Dutch Championships there are a few girls that look like they are way faster than Phyllis. But she still did a good job getting the record.

The film was made quite a while ago, when double Dutch was a fairly new sport, in 1989. Keep JUMPIN. And good luck.

Thank you so much. I was proud when I made it. And still today, I sell DVDs of it to plenty of schools.
