@@robbietilton6254 isn’t it interesting that a “cable tang” system that virtually no other known fighting knife I have ever seen from any custom maker, or used by any military, is somehow used on replica Wild West mirror polished bowie knives!? Somehow this big mirror polished replica knife has this super high tech performance system that Randall, Loveless, Scagel, Lile and every single commando knife I have ever seen or read about hadn’t thought about using?!? Wow what 🪨 have I been living under!
Supposedly the cable tang lessons the handle shock when someone is chopping with the knife, making it more comfortable to use. Whether it works or not is another matter.
I believe this knife is intended for a fighting knife not chopping. That being said is it necessary to do all that? To each their own. Handle looks great though
You're paying for the steel and workmanship- ain't nothing "crappy" about those knives. That said, the "New Cold Steel" just doesnt produce the quality they did since Lynne sold the place!
@@ronalddunne3413 all my cold Steel knives that i have bought after Lynn sold the company, has been of better quality and workmanship then before. So i am very happy with my knives.
Good work, looks GREAT- except for the exposed metal of the tang on the upper left(?) side of the grip.. too bad about that! I'm wondering how that could have been covered up.. Otherwise a nice looking grip which should last a long time under any normal use... 🤠. Lynne supposedly said that the cables were also to affect the balance of these factory-made premium fighting knives. I've been pondering how I might refit my own cable tangs, a Natch and a Laredo.. I just don't trust those dang epoxied cables.
what's the deal with the big missing chunk on the one scale? Doesn't look good or comfortable to have the alum showing through. Otherwise the antler looks great!
@@stevebledsoe71 the cable is much stronger, you can forge high quality knife blades out of cables. this mod is just dumb. There is a reason they are made with cable tangs, it even cost more too make them.
@@bushcraft_in_the_north I think you are right. I don't know much about knife making but I doubt Lyn would have went with a cable tang had it been the inferior option.
That’s a very nice conversion sir but in my honest opinion if you have a thick enough knife batoning a knife shouldn’t hurt the edge a least bit I believe those cold steels are 5/16 thick that’s plenty thicc for small trees brands and processing kindling and cutting through logs I believe the idea of batoning is if you’re in a pinch and you have no other option
Really nice knife conversion , Mr. Rick . Most knife reviews are so predictable they are totally boring . They just gotta do the caveman test and beat a nice knife with a big stick . Thanks for all you do . Best regards to you and yours .
Although the cable tang isn’t great, your false full tang is weaker. All show, no go. You would serve your customer better by welding a length of mild steel to the original stub tang and attaching the stag with epoxy and maybe a pin.
Nice job. My first question is, Why didn't you try a distal taper on the steel handle? That and drilling it out to skeletonize it seems to me would have massively reduced the weight without having to compromise the tang material? Just wondering.. Otherwise, good job. Major improvement over the original goofy thing from the factory. Personally, I'd have just ordered that style knife from you in the first place. Cheaper you said!
I was wondering how you can make a knife a full tang without it being built like that. Cool stuff Mr Ricky! You the man! 💪 Pretty knife! Ain't a Wallace Knife tho!😅 👊🤛💪
So, i dont understand why you did not show howbitbwas made, what is going on in the handle? I presume you made a C type false full tang to fit around the stub tang. But you cant call this “full tang” it is still a hidden tang, and a stub tang at that
Sweet! I love those type knives. The Confederate blades made during the civil war are rare masterpieces. They were made for one purpose. Not quite a sword but bigger than a average knife.
15:06 The fact that the back of the handle has not been sanded down completely but that a huge piece of metal simply protrudes from the back is an absolute no-go for me. The term is neither nice nor finished with this significant defect. You can say what you want, without gloves you will soon have pressure marks. I really cannot understand how something like this can be interpreted as a finished product.
if that is what you want, just buy a Trailmaster then. these knives are very strong, he just makes money because of people dont know enough about knives. he is even making them weaker. And this is a fighting knife, not a axe. it feels lively and the balance is great and it handles shock better than any other knife. it even cost more too produce them with cable tangs. they are made this way for a reason you see.

Ricky that is now the sharpest knife I have ever seen!!!

beautiful work, and a stunning result. Welldone!

I like it a lot better with the stag handle. Made this knife look really good. Great job Mr. Wallace. Have a Blessed Day Friend! Justin

You sure got some skills there, beautiful job
This might be my ignorant perspective from not knowing but I think they used a cable to absorb the shock through the handle🤷🏼♂️

Neat knife, awesome handle!
That's absolutely disgusting of Cold Steel to sell a rat tang for such an incredibly high price...BLAH!!!
Very interesting, great video
Full Tang ONLY PLEASE! Nice work!
Pretty sure the idea of the cable tang is to absorb shock, and make it more comfortable to hit objects with. something like that.

If its actually made and intended to be a fighter or self defense knife.
There is no excuse for it not to have a full tang .
Great job !
Respect for you..what a beautyful work..
Shame that companies ask so much money for a crappy cable tang knife..
Moi aussi trop déçu et révolté que COLD STEEL ait pus faire produire une tel merde de (soie -câble)!! surtout pour le prix !!
Its to absorb shock. It would be Cheaper and simpler both to just have a threaded solid tang.

No offense but I guess its built well if you can’t get the handle off without destroying it. Cold steel said they use a cable to minimize vibration

Why don’t you use a carbon steel instead of aluminum to extend the tang?
Right? I'm not sure id trust that aluminum tang any more than I would've trusted the cable.

I understand the concept here..But a tang should not be thick as the spine of the blade! I love a good tapered tang! Just my opinion.
I was hoping that when GSM bought out CS that the new owner would do away with this ridiculous cable tang and go to a full tang.
