I fully agree, this kind of majestic music is simply not heard anymore in film. There has been this shift since 15-20 years that film music should be less melodic and more atmospheric (or just plain sound design nowadays). I miss those good old days...
@MultiDarkElf … Respectfully, I disagree. Movies produced in the recent 15-20 years like Interstellar and Oppenheimer are not only amazing movies, but introduced us to cinema music that was amazing as well. For example, in Oppenheimer, Göransson wrote in 21 tempo changes in the theme of the movie, “Can You Hear The Music”. Although this was an unorthodox writing for movie soundtracks, the song was able to convey the emotions of the movie exceptionally. Music styles for movie soundtracks have changed over the past 15-20 years, that much is obvious. It seems to me that you dislike today’s music simply because it is different than the music of “Prince Of Egypt”’s era. Also, to say that today’s movie soundtracks are less melodic and more atmospheric like you did is stupid. You seem to be implying that just because modern movie soundtrack themes aren’t as “long” and “complex” as movie soundtrack themes 15-20 years ago, they are not really melodies anymore, that they are merely sound effects plastered together. Movie soundtracks have been created to convey emotions that cannot be expressed through words or editing in a film, so they are made to be “atmospheric”. In my opinion, modern movie soundtracks are better at fulfilling that role than the soundtrack in this video. Don’t get me wrong; I love this soundtrack. I love the complexity of it and how I can imagine going to an orchestra concert and hearing this without it feeling out of place. But I don’t think that this song is as good at fulfilling the need for expressive emotions the way modern movie soundtracks are.
Well I hate the stuff that Goranson comes up with, it's not film music. It may be complex, but it does nothing to move, or excite me. Nothing to make me feel something. I'm talking about the big symphonic soundtracks of the old days. These give me joy and tears and everything in between. The current crop of modern film composers don't have the chops for writing in that style anymore, so I have zero engagement in their work. In one ear, out the other so to speak. I like when music is another character, sometimes subtly in the background, sometimes in your face with some big heroic statement of exciting rendition of a theme. Hollywood has been very disappointing in that regard. Give me a Horner, Williams, Goldsmith any day of the week. But hey, that's just me, you can listen to Goransson all you want. 😊
@@Kaellub43 For the record I love both Interstellar the movie and score. Zimmer knocked it out of the park with that one, but his best decade was the 90s IMO

For the most part of my childhood because of some family issues, I had to live with my grandparents and was raised as a Jehovah's witness for a time which I didn't enjoy, mostly because of the strict and rigorous way of living. One of the worst parts is that I wasn't allowed to watch most cartoons, TV shows, and movies. (I had to watch DBZ in hiding with my brother lol) But oh boy did my family love to watch The Prince of Egypt it was one of my favorite movies growing up, still holds a special place in my heart. Thank you for this amazing performance, watching Sinne Eeg singing Jochebed's lullaby brought tears to my eyes.

As a HUGE fan of the movie, I just happened to listen to this song yesterday on my drive home. As amazing as the orchestra is, this song seemed more forced, unlike the movie where emotion and so much pain was felt in every word sung. Beautiful song, the instrumentals sound phenomenal, but the singers just didn't have the same power the movie had behind it. Still, I would give it 8 out of 10. :)
Agreed... this seems very thin sounding as well. This song is supposed to wallop you with a wall of sound that comes from the emotional pain that the song is about.
I wasn't a fan of the drumset in the beginning either. Sounded out of place stylistically.
