Someone from another place comes here, proclaims themselves civilized and superior to the natives, savage and evil to a man. Before you start grasping at straws, I will add that "to a man" colloquially means "including every individual" regardless of gender. I do appreciate a well reasoned comment. On the- let's call it a tumblr origin hypothesis- this is where we may differ. Once I was personally revealed as bisexual, I got hate mail and it never stopped. The language was heavily profane and the threats were extreme, but more importantly the content was that I was "not gay enough" and "hurting the gay cause" and "indecisive" among other things. Saying that tumblr is a nice place simply does not sit right with that experience. While not valid, there is certainly anecdotal evidence that there is significant malice pointed at the "wrong" kind of LGBT on tumblr. It can, however, be generally agreed that youtube comments are not welcoming to anyone, let alone the sort of postmodern idealist that comes into the internet in such a way. Old hands from /b/ and such, we had the same manners, but they were bound to ideals- rather, a Darwinian gauntlet through which one's assumptions are tested. (That is a conversation for another time.) The overarching point being, while tumblr may harbor some very nice people, they are not all nice, nor are nice people any more likely to be from tumblr than from 4chan or right here on youtube. Being raised by an Enlish lit professor, I learned that piece of information more than 20 years ago and the rule itself was probably only important prior to the Clinton administration. Given developments in the standard usage of english over 20 years, let alone 50-60 years, mutations in what constitutes proper usage become increasingly more difficult to track.
