Pretty slick work. Very handy
Thanks Izzy! It's been a pretty nice upgrade.
Damn you get a kudos from Izzy you are going places great job =)
😊😀 very just simple and handy
Great video. Kudos to @izzy swan for original idea, yeah?
Cool
Such a clever idea to be able to store heavier tabletop tools - I was JUST starting to puzzle through how I'll store things in my smaller shed workspace. Explained clearly and great ideas. Bravo!
I bought this as a gift for my friend ruclips.net/user/postUgkxcZqgZ8Ynkiz5n_LxIWRlAicuzmz5kCHG who is just starting out in the world of wood work. He loves it!! There is a great section on different wood and what to use for what kind of job and a similar section for tools as well. The projects in it are things you probably would have a go at with clear instructions, pictures, videos and diagrams throughout. Great for a beginner/amateur wood worker.
Wow! Good job. Interestingly, I’m embarrassed that your video was done 5 years ago and I’m just now seeing it for the first time. I bet you’re even better now than you were then. This is the type of work bench I need to build for my small workshop. This will work great for me. Thanks for the informative video.
I just love watching your videos. You seem to really enjoy figuring out your projects. You are not afraid to crawl on the concrete and get a little saw dust on yourself. You are very good at describing what you are doing and take pride in your work. Regardless of your modesty, many would agree you are one of the best woodworkers on You tube. More importantly you are a perfectionist, an inspiration and a great problem solver.
Thank you! ✌
You spoke in a language a total newbie like myself understands. It looks a great idea and I’m definitely going to build this once I move. Thank you for making this video.
I'm gald to hear that! I appreciate the feedback. Let me know when you decide to build it
Pneumatic Addict I definitely will, in fact I’ll probably be asking lots of questions.
Awesome design. I also have a craftsman 3-way flip table...very handy. Note: If you turn the planer 90 degrees, and hinge the roller bed off the side, You will re-gain the fourth flip top for another tool.
This is really clever. I first stumbled across your collapsible sawhorses, followed by the collapsing workbench, and now this. Thanks RUclips, and great job on all the "outside the box" solutions!
Ok RUclips algorithm, why not I learn something from this lady.
Thanks for helping out in finishing my imaginary workshop
Pretty dang nice pilgrim.... love the simplicity... think I'll use that design for my project.... and I agree with April
"I'm a wood put-er together-er"
that was funny. I'm slowly trying to become a wood worker myself. Just made my kitchen cabinet doors, drawers. Almost done, next up, coffee table, shelves and bed.
Cool channel.
You did an amazing job on this project. Not only do you have a wide variety of tools but it is clearly obvious that you know how to use them properly. I'm looking forward to seeing some other projects in the future.
Thank you VERY MUCH for sharing this video!!!! I do NOT have the space to make the whole flip bench like you did, BUT what I can do with my "factory installed"/work bench is cut out a section from the top of the bench at one end & install a "Flip" section to put a tool or two on have flip them when needed & when not flip them down & have access to my bench top! So, AGAIN, THANK YOU for the idea!!!!
This is a very practical bench for a smaller workshop.
Good job, Elisha! I like how much you can put on that cart. And the outfeed rollers are a good idea. You're going to love having a planer!
Thanks Bruce! I used 7/8" oak for the dowel. My husband is an engineer and did a rough calculation for me. He said it should take approx. 800 lbs. You could always use metal pipe instead for even more strength. I bet the 2 x 4s would fail before the round dowel does.
Pneumatic Addict Wow! That’s impressive it could hold that much. I think you’re right about the 2x4’s failing before the dowel would.
Thanks for your inspiration - I just bought the plans now and look forward to seeing how mine turns out - I have a real problem with space also and this would make life easier.
newly retired and starting a workshop in an empty trailer on my property. This will save me much needed space, thank you. I'm subscribed
You have no idea how much I love this! I need to build one for my shed-shop!
Thanks friend! I agree, you totally should make one 😀
Stop calling it a "shed - shop" :) bahahaha! xoxoxo
Nice work. Came out great and an awesome way to utilize the same space for multiple tools.
Very cool design! That's an excellent way to save space and pair tools you'll use together. 🤘
This is the first flip top design ive seen using a wooden dowel. I always buy the thinner ones so it never occurred to me I could use one instead of a metal pipe. Thank you for the inspiration!
I thought about going with a flip top design... For my planer, which I use for every project it made more sense to keep it accessible. Awesome job tho! Great video.
"wood putter togetherer..." this is the best description for myself too :) bravo on an excellent build!
I say the same thing about guitars...I'm not a guitar player, I just play with guitars.
Excellent and not overly complicated. Simple and functional. Not all of the expensive tools and overkill in construction technique.
Actually, I am so glad I watched this useful video and I thank you with all my heart. Ibrahim from Egypt
Oh snap! I need this! Thank you for this.
Nice design. One suggestion would be to replace that wooden dowel with a length of 3/4" black iron pipe.
Here are 16,000 woodworking plans: WoodPlan. info
@@michaelreyes3653 stop with the spaming...
I believe that at this moment the dowel is broken.
I like that you didn't over-complicate the build. I've been mulling over flip top carts for a while but most designs have locking bolts, threaded rod axles and a bunch of other items that seem like overkill for a weekend shop.
What a great bench. Opens up the work space area for more activities and such. Im going to recommend HR to give you a raise.🙂🙂
Omg I’m totally making this!
lovely video - just what we noobies need for inspiration. I've seen number of these 'flip top' bench videos and was about to switch away when I saw you with the nailer. Then I realised - yes - function over form - the real thing the beginners need to get results and I stayed to watch the whole vid. Damn that was inspirational BECAUSE it was so approachable. You 'nailed it' - (sorry :-D)
This is a brilliant space saving idea.
Awesome build and great video!!
WOW, Love this Bench, Gave me an idea for a space saver BENCH Your Awesome! Love to see someone with a GREAT Ideas! ! Perfect! Thank You for Sharing, not hard to watch either! ; )
Great walkthrough! I'm definitely doing this in my garage.
That project was awesome, great job! Thanks for the inspiration.
Great build!
Thanks Caleb!
Hey SPONSORS!! Give this girl a drill press!
Awesome build!! Thanks for the super, easy practical project! Right up my alley.
I'm confident she can easily build a portable drill press with some wood scraps. This lady is a marvel.
think she has enough sponsors going on for an amateur woodworker.
was a pretty obvious hint.
How about just buying one. They're not that expensive.
Aaron Lance .Grow up
Nice work love the flip top bench I installed a counter weight to help balance the loads when flipping
Works great
BRILLIANT!!! I am going to build on of these to replace my current homebuilt workbench!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!
This build is awesome. I didn't even know I wanted this until I saw you create it. I want to get a benchtop planer and jointer. This is perfect. Great work and love your editing. Fellow RUclipsr here ;) Subbed!
Cool build ,I'm looking to build a similar bench .Thanks for the inspiration your awesome and very talented.
Cheers
Tim from Wood 4 Nothing
I just finished a set of your folding sawhorses, love them. I think this double flip cart will be my next project.
This shouldn’t be that amusing but it is! Because it’s so uncommon.
This is pretty great and I appreciate this.
You open with a self deprecation that really grinds my gears. You're a woodworker; and a crafty one at that.
Will Gardner Ever notice that stupid people think they’re so smart? They know a little and they think that’s everything. Smart people have learned so much that they realize how much more there is to learn. Plus, she’s a humble reserved person. She’s very skilled indeed! A+++++
I have a 12 1/2" planer, A 6" joiner, an oscillating spindle sander and a bench top drill press I would put on something like this. Then build a single for my band saw and scroll saw. Thanks for the Idea.
Looks like I just found my next project. What a fantastic way to save garage space. Great work. Thanks for posting such quality stuff.
Such brilliance! Impressive. Simple & elegant.
Nice job! It’ll get lots of good use😀👍
This bench is flipping great!
Hahaha I see what you did there 😉
This comment is flipping great
Wow that's a pretty amazing idea. Thanks for that! Definitely want to do this in my garage
Great Design, and Simple but Detailed Tutorial!
Cool idea. I was thinking if you put a strip of wood or metal on the top back side of the rotating shelf, it would act as a stop to keep it from over traveling. Then put one on the other end, opposite side to stop against the bottom of the frame. Would make putting the bolt in easier as there would be a positive stop to hold the moving bit against.
That was amazing, I might use a metal rod but everything else was so cool
That was my only concern of how well the rod would hold up. Past that awesome project!
@@hellolemmings11 Hope it has held up over the years! 73lbs is a lot.
I really like this idea. This is perfect for some space conservation.
That is my next project for my tiny 1 Car garage work shop!!
Great job and vid!!
I was a professional wood putter togetherer for years! Nice to see a comrade in, armchairs?
Great flip-top bench!! Thank you for sharing that
This is so clever. Top 5 video I’ve seen on RUclips.
A neat addition to this would be to add a crank arm and some wood-cut gears to make the flipping action crank-action, much more controllable that way.
What a great idea. Need a video to see this
Or don't mount extremely heavy tools opposite light ones! If they were balanced it'd be easy.
How is the business going now a days?
Three things I’d like to suggest.
One, look into Forstner bits. Those paddle bits are a pain in the behind.
Two, consider using pipe or tubing for your pivot instead of the dowels. They’ll last longer,
and you can get away with a smaller diameter, reducing how much material you need to remove to fit them
Thereby reducing the chance of a beam failure due to weight/pressure on the pivot point.
Three, when you pair tools on a flip bench, try to ensure they’re roughly the same weight on each flip deck.
They’ll help each other roll over without being unbalanced. This will reduce the likelihood that you lose control
of the deck while turning it over, so you don’t hurt yourself or damage a tool.
Great build. I love the concept.
She did have one
@3:33
Yup. Saw that. I hate paddle bits. Always have. I’ve been building custom furniture for thirty years. I don’t use them. Ever.
It’s nice to see the anonymous experts on here can maintain a standard of civility...
joseph erwin - if you love the concept check out stumpy nubs... he has a cool carousel type gizmo he made - tools don't flip upside down, they sort of rotate - just a ferris wheel.
another thing. no point in checking for level unless the cradle is level also. just measure parallel and square.
THIS is how I can have what I want in my small shop
Thanks!!
This is inspiring. I have been thinking about doing something like this for a while - my selection of tools to mount is numerically larger and physically smaller, and a couple of them involve fences or sleds on the tabletop, so it won't be just like this. But it'll be something like this.
Nice Design although I'd use a steel pipe or rod for rotating member and for the pins. I will definitely build one similar in future.
Love this idea.
Thanks friend! I am still kinda surprised it works
Tamar!!!! ❤️
Nice work! I kind of like the idea of having one side be a totally blank work table
Nicely done -and exactly what I was looking for! Your instructions are clear, concise and you are well-spoken. Many thanks for sharing your design and experience. I like your humor and style!Any shade-tree hack can randomly slap a bunch of wood together. A woodworker/craftsperson takes pride in their work and uses precision and patience to "create," just as any artist. Without a doubt, you are definitely a creator/woodworker! New subber, here.
You killed it! great to see such quality content being produced by a female. Keep kicking ass. :D
Thanks chica! ✌ More ass kicking coming up!
And she didn't even have to wear short shorts to do it!!
@@Yellow.Dog. 😂
@@Yellow.Dog. Don't get me wrong, I get what you say, but if she would wear shorts... well, shorts can never go wrong, though. I mean NEVER !
@@Yellow.Dog. ruclips.net/video/2jPlAhcwaNY/видео.html&ab_channel=AprilWilkerson 3Years ago
Thanks for the ideas. I was thinking recently how I can fit a car and a tractor in my workshop. This cracks it. Thanks again.
I've been meaning to do something similar for a while for all my smaller tooling, just never got around to it. I'm kinda toying with the idea of using a 2-4'' pivot riding on bearings /w built in dust collection ports for each station (could even do a built in down draft table in that sense).
Will be perfect for my next project. I have a planer, sliding miter saw, router table and I’m thinking of adding an oscillating sander. Thanks 🙏🏽
I’m planning on making an “all in one” work bench that will house my table saw, planer, and miter saw.
Will you have plans to share?
I like the overall design! Though you're counting on the pull out strength of a few 3" nails on that center connector to hold it all together on something that gets moved around. I would add a 1x4 horizontal stretcher on either end with some screws to make sure everything stays put.
Do you mean for the horizontal 1x4 to attach on the ends where the tools would interfere when being flipped? Otherwise, I don't understand the location
@@10Timewaster yeah, I think that is what I meant. I didn't really think that through, they would get in the way when flipping the tools.
Great idea! I have been watching Flip-Top bench videos for days to get some ideas and this one is it. Great! Thank you.🙂
nice build, I've got a couple tools sitting in the middle of my garage floor and need something like this - great idea.
"I'm not a real woodworker..." You've got me beat. Heck, all I have is a miter and a circular; I don't even have a bench.
@Brandon S thats not true. Working as a physician requires a license (ie a medical education). Anyone can call themself a woodworker.
But we all know deep inside that metal working is the real thing.
@@kattihatt so pieces of paper indicate skill? Barriers to entry in the guise of increasing safety serve only to enrich those already on the inside.
It is a big club but you ain't in it.
Sounds like you have a good start. A few other hand tools and you can build a bench. Use the tools you have to build the tools you need, when possible.
@@daedulsworkshop i dont think that was my point. The comment i replied to is removed it looks like, and i cant remember what it was. But i think its good that we have licences, so we know that the person we put our trust in has atleast some basic knowledge in the field. Dont you agree?
Girl, you need a workbench.
Cool project, well done, you've earned a subscriber :)
You might consider adding a powerstrip to plug all the tools into.
ruclips.net/channel/UC2AKpjhkH_uSkIjJdGF4hxA
this and the outdoor couch are both good ideas, you really got my noggin joggin now
Not going to lie, i clicked on a video of yours cause your cute but got stuck watching all these cause these are awesome projects. Good work 👍 I look forward to more of your content.
Placing the heavier tools on top of each other would make flipping much easier, but nice quick build!
Probably will interfere with center crossmember because of their height.
Yes I see what you mean
Probably to heavy for the rod
Haha A wood puter-togetherer! I often feel that way too. We’re makers! No rules apply ;)
Oh girl, you've got some serious woodworking skills! But you call yourself whatever you want.
Cobble together, works in many situations.
Same.
I particularly like the outfeed roller addition. Nice work!
It's scary, I was just out in my workshop looking at doing EXACTLY like this today. Thanks for the tips!
Simpel but affective. I like it. And what a refreshing new view not to see a few knuckleheads doing the work but a handy Woman. Can I replace a few colleagues for this 😂. And yes, never use your nail gun towards yourself. That can be a ruining this channel for a couple of weeks when it goes wrong. Keep up the good work!
Finally, I see a RUclips video showing someone with the good sense to wear kneepads while working. They ain't pretty, but they save your pants, and your knees. Flip-top tables make sense, too. A flip-top table should include a stop at the far end of the teeter-totter so that when you flip, it hits the stop. Only then do you install a pin to keep the table in place. This will prevent it from accidently flipping over too far, and it makes aligning the pin much easier.
Oh, and be careful with that nailer. They deserve a little more care.
I like the sheet rock backdrop- made it very easy to clearly see things
I just found your channel and this is the first video I’ve watched. So far I’m very impressed. Great job!
Nice design and build! You did a nice job! PLEASE be careful NEVER to point that nail gun at yourself, though. :-}
Agreed. Oh man did I cringe at a few points. Safety first!
Me too!!
me three
me four...but she doesn't agree according to one of her comments
if the nail goes trough the wood one day,
She'll think twice the next time if she's lucky. Happens 3 time already in my workshop.
Maybe some counterweight so it wouldn't be so heavy when flipping over.
Incredibly beautiful..
Awesome video. Thanks for the effort to produce it, nice job.
Nice idea that worked really well. You do need more awareness with the nail gun though. (Never nail towards a body part!)
Never cut towards yourself either but pulling has more control over pushing, curtain circumstances, it is what it is lol.
My compliments SpikeMoby on saying it with kindness many people forget the wisdom of being kind.
Some use the excuse and say they "have to" but the "have to" won't undo the hospital visit and expense of lost time and wages when things go wrong.
Came for the curves, stayed for the interesting design. I like the roller idea for sure.
Very clever and outstanding work bench. Well done!! thank you
Great Build. You gave me some ideas THANKS
I would get four 1/2" diameter rare earth magnets and recess them flush in the the side where you have the lag bolts that hold the table level - pull the bolt, slide it a fraction of an inch to the magnet; both hands free to turn the table top - and you bolt is right there - no chance of dropping it, cause it inevitably will roll to the dead center of the table on the floor! Murphy's Law.
Good build - thinking of doing the same for my Ridgid planer..
Yep, looks like I’ve found a new channel.
You are getting better!!!
There is no substitute for just doing it and doing it again. No one is perfect ....but lots of practice will get you close.
I fell in love wit the bench 😀😀
This is a cool build. Thank you!
Please, please, please don't wear gloves around rotating machinery. So dangerous! And never point a nail gun toward yourself (or anyone!)
Loved the DIY outfeed roller - a lot!
Jason Doust
I was going to point out the nail gun pointing concern. Yikes. Three inch nails hurt.
