I was looking at Rav 4s yesterday at the dealership. They don't have any hybrids on the lot yet - but the salesman told me I wouldn't be happy with a Rav4 anyway because I currently drive a 4Runner.

I honestly think 90% of the noise is the microphone amplifying the ambient sound. I feel like the engine is not as loud as you would think based on this video. Also, they've added insulation on the ceiling of the hybrid, which should make it quieter than the gas model, esp. when you consider the fact that hybrids are quieter in general

It's because this RAV4 Hybrid only has one electric motor powering the front wheels. In the US and Canada, it'll have two and the 0-60 time drops down to around 7.1 seconds.

my old RX450h is perhaps not quicker to 100 but much quicker up to 210 ;-) ! 2,2ton but the 3.5 V6 is a masterpiece of Toyota and Lexus ! Its much more quiet inside and depressing to drive .....ok Lexus are expensive....for a reason ;-) double glass, 3-4 rows of rubber in the doors turns this car in a wonderful silent ship.

Have you guys actually driven the rav at normal speeds? The motors only audible when your romping on it. If you drive at normal speed it is very quiet. At 140kmh or less it is very quiet inside the cabin. Above that and you start hearing the motor struggling (cause lots of drag) and wind noise

David Chang I have testdriven the Rav 4 here in Finland. 19 inch alloy wheels sucks. I drove it with 17 inch alloys. No road noice. I drove an older xc 40 that was really terrible. Comparing to that car the Rav is really superb.

No its not, you see arrows in the middle display when he hits gas pedal, only giving force to front axel. If it were 4wd you should see arrows on both axels, at least in the beginning of acceleration

Do you have rav4 hybrid? I have 2016 model 4wd hybrid there is same display in that model showing when all 4 wheels active. And in situation when you floor it from 0 it will ALWAYS engage all 4 wheels and show that on display, especially in sport mode.

what i say here goes for all hybrid cars: yes they are loud getting up to speed, but once they are there, the sustain is quite silent.
To get up to speed like the RAV4 does at full speed any Diesel or Gasoline engine will rev like hell and sound the same.
It has nothing to do with the hybrid system. The noise is caused by the CVT.

herbal ursa cvts are usually loud at that speed, my Nissan sounds like its going to explode when Im on the highway, first and last cvt ill ever own

I believe that was 100 kilometers per hour, which is about 62 mph. I own a 2019 RAV-4 Limited and it is quieter than my Lexus.
